Ok who called it on Edge!?

Guest The Mighty Damaramu

Ok seriously now because if I did it I'm sure a lot of people did.

Who saw Edge step into a WWF ring for the first time and go "That guy will be WWF champion someday." I mean seriously. The first time I saw him I just knew the WWF was going to do something with him. It's like a 6th smark sense...or to anti-smarks a 666th smark sense.

I mean there's no denying he will be WWF champion at someday. I mean it'd be asinine to deny it at this stage in the game(unless you're anglesault).

Was that before or after he broke one of the Boricquas' neck?

I'd tend to agree with you, though. He's always had the look and presence to be a WWF/E champion. It's always been a matter of time.

It might be wishful thinking on my part, but I seem to remember thinking "Holy shit, this guy's got it" very early into Rock's initial heel run. Angle, too. You can just sort of tell with some guys.

If the WWE plays it right they have a very good ME in Edge as his workrate and charisma are pretty high. He gets loud pops, has that look that Vince likes, and looks like he can show "ruthless agression!!"

Couldn't help myself but he should be champ in about 2 to 3 yrs IMO.

I always thought it was cool how he came through the crowd for his entrance B)

I thought Edge was too lanky, and besides the long, blonde hair, he didn't have the look to be a ME when I first saw him. He still doesn't to me today.

Yeah, I always thought there was something about Edge too. I also liked Rocky Maivia to a certain extent.

You know, at this point, not only is Edge not WWE champion, but he's playing #2 to Hogan, which is never a good career move for someone who wants to win a world title.

I can honestly say no. I saw him with Christian and thought they would make a great team (which they did), but I could never picture either of them as a singles main-eventer. And now, neither of them are! They're just in different tag teams.

Although you are right, Edge will probably be champ within two years, although given the fact that there have been no "new" title-holders in the past two years except Jericho the "transitional, held-down, blah blah blah champ", I doubt there will be any new title holders within the next two. Except maybe as "transitional, held-down blah blah blah champs".

Brock Lesnar is going to be champion by the end of next month, so there goes that theory. Given that Austin's gone, Rock is gone most of the time, Undertaker is at the tail-end of his career, and Triple H can't stay healthy for more than a few months at a time...they're going to have to put it on new people. Edge is a prime candidate with little to no detriments, as far as the WWE is concerned.

I certainly hope so, but... ummm... maybe Brock will lose the title and win and retain the IC title instead. Ummm... yea....

What makes you so sure of the Brock theory? To be honest, it seems like they aren't sure themselves, and I can't say I blame them. They've set themselves up to fail here, and New World Champion or not, fail they will.

But yeah, Edge will probably get the title at some point. Whether or not he will actually draw as champion is a totally diferent story, though.

Wha? I figure Brock, Edge, and RVD will all be Undisputed champions by the end of, say, 2003. Booker'll get it when either the entire roster save him dies in a series of bizarre accidents OR there's some sort of NAACP boycot.

I really think it's almost a foregone conclusion, unless I've been majorly misinformed. It's a horrible move, obviously, but it's just like the WWE to really stick to that booking.

Well, like you said, it is a horrible move, and even if it does happen, it will fail. If Brock doesn't win at Summerslam, I can't see him winning it ever. And the truth is, I think they're wavering on whether or not to put him over Rock. Or, at least, they should be. Maybe I'm giving them too much credit...

Yeah, I'm definately giving them too much credit.

I wouldn't go so far as to say ever--he's a young guy, you know--but certainly not for a good while. It's clear that they want and expect him to be a big star, however, and the best way to make a big star is to have him beat another big star. The WWE--at least the sensible portions of it--quite rightfully consider Rock to be their biggest star. In theory, putting Lesnar over him would be the thing to cement him as a ME player and finally get him over with the fans.

While that all does make sense when looked at by itself, I think the smarter part of the WWE also realizes that things have become much more complicated than that. Considering that Rock is one of the only big stars left and that by jobbing him to Lesnar, they could kill his drawing power, it's a risky move. On the other hand, they've already put so much effort into pushing Lesnar that not giving him a win here could prevent him from ever gaining enough momentum to have a go at it again. Look at Lex Luger and how damaging his failure at Summerslam '93 was. Had they simply put the title on him then it might not have failed so badly. Not only is Lesnar's current momentum an issue, but reliance on the Rock is, too. Considering he isn't going to be around consistantly anymore, keeping the title on him and putting him over their "top prospect" would make them look far too desperate and would devaluate the title because the champion wouldn't be able to defend it consistantly.

So, while in theory they have the right plan in mind, in actuality, they're totally fucked up the ass no matter what the chose to do.

I still think he is not ready to be a main eventer because to me he looks like Shaggy from the Scooby doo movie. ZOINKS!

When saw the Rocks 1st heel promo, I said, That guy is the future.

When I saw Robbie V wrestle a WCW house show, I said that guy is going to be big...even though he blew like 90 spots.

When I saw Rhyno, I knew that guy would be great....I am 2-3 so far.
