Am I anyless of a fan?

Guest Jerome Drake

You know what pisses me off? When people say your not as big as a fan than they are, because you choose some one like Rowdy Pipper over Chris Benoit.

I would choose to watch epic battles like Hulk Hogan Vs. Ultimate Warrior, Hulk Hogan Vs. Andre The Giant, Hulk Hogan Vs. The Rock, Triple H Vs. The Rock(Ironman Match) over more techncial bouts like Chris Benoit Vs. Chris Jericho, Bret Hart Vs. Chris Benoit, Ricky Steamboat Vs. Ric Flair.

Why? Because I got into those matches more.

I swear Hulk Hogan Vs. The Rock, will forever be my favorite match.

Because I was apart of that 68'000 crowding, and during that match not one person was sitting in their seat. Everyone was going crazy for Hogan, acting like a 5 year old again. And when Hogan kicked out of The Rock Bottom, everyone was going apeshit. It may havent been a "Mat Classic", but it sure was an Epic. Everyone was going crazy, for that match we were all burnt out for the World Title bout. I couldnt talk the next day, because I was cheering so much! You wont get that kind of crowd heat for a Jericho/Benoit match.

Hulk Hogan Vs. Andre The Giant is my 2nd favorite. Sure it may have not been a great match, on techncial terms. But it sure was a epic. I still mark out watch Hulk Hogan raise Andre the Giant up and body slamming him. The heat was off the charts. You dont get 93'000 people going wild, unless they have a reason to.

You guys can call me a mark or whatever, but I would choose Hulk Hogan Vs. The Rock, over any Benoit/Jericho/Storm/Bret Hart/Regal match anyday.

I don't think that you are any less of a fan becuase you prefere the big names. It just comes down to personal opinion. Take Stephanie McMahon being made the Smackdown GM. Now, most people seem to hate Steph but some people will like here and just because I don't agree with them doesn't make them any less of a fan. As for the matches, well I like both technical matchs and the more dramatic, involving matches too. I really liked Hogan vs. Rock from Wrestlemania X-8, it was my favoutire match of the card, but it wasn't a mat classic and just because I enjoyed feeling like I was 7 years old again watching Hogan go into battle I do not consider myself to be any less of a fan. In my opinion you seem to be more of a true wrestling fan than a lot of people on the Internet because you simply enjoy it instead of picking holes. Well, thats my opinion anyone else got one?

I can get into any match when the crowd is rabid. All the matches you mentioned were huge because of the crowd. The same goes for dead crowd matches. It could be a **** or ***** classic, but if the crowd is dead for it, it is much harder to enjoy.

Personally I think I am a mark. I'm just a mark for good build, well executed mat work, excellent story telling and well defined characters. I get excited in the same way as people did for Hogan in the 80's for these things, and I think this goes for a lot of people on this board.

Just a question: Who the fuck calls you less of a fan for liking a different wrestler?

Hogan vs. Rock is my current MOTY and I don't plan on changing it any time soon.

But seriously, you are really missing out on something if you don't get see Benoit in Japan.

I don't consider you any less of a fan. You are entitled to your opinion, even if I disagree with it. Personally, I don't care what the crowd thinks when I am watching a match. If the crowd is happy, then obviously the bookers did something right, but it doesn't necessarily entertain me.

We are entertained by different things, that's all. I am not opposed to Hogan being on a card, in fact I am enjoying his current run with Edge and the Rock match was fun. When I get pissed is when the entire show is Hogan (or HHH or whomever) and I don't get to see what I want to see (a nice match featuring Benoit, etc.). In a 2 hour show or 3 hour PPV, you think the WWF could make time to have a mixture of styles so that fans of a particular style will have something that they could enjoy. WCW at its height was doing it all the time.

Ok, everybody saying there's nothing wrong with liking different matches, I don't wanna hear shit the next time Chyna Vs Lita appears in one of my top 10 match lists. :P

We never said we wouldn't argue with you over it, just that it wouldn't make you any less of a fan.

If you think that Chyna vs. Lita deserves to be in the top ten matches of all time, then you better be prepared to explain your reasoning.

People will like whatever they want, and still be fans. That doesn't mean I have agree with it, but it's not like I can say "You aren't a fan because you like Warior/Hogan!", and it's not like you would care anyway, because it's what you like. I could say "there are better matches" and you could agree or disagree, but that's completely diferent.

Really, you're a fan because you percieve yourself as a fan. You don't need the respect of felow fans to become one yourself.

People in the crowd cheer for Rikishi... but they're still fans. A fan is a fan, whether you like the same people as the Smarks or not.

I think it is possible to judge how 'good' a fan is by the sacrifice he/she makes for whatever he/she is a fan of.

For example.

I am a huge Hogan mark. But watching confidential last month where they showed this guy who has a whole room filled with Hogan shirts, magazines, and the like, not to mention he left his job to look after Hogans father, not to mention he and Hogan have become personal friends... I look at that and I say 'shit, I got nothin on him'. And it's true. I am a huge hogan mark, but he is a bigger one.

He has made more of a sacrifice as a fan to be a fan.

But this has nothing to do with the above...just saying.

A fan can be a fan of any aspect of the product. That's what makes you a fan, liking anything about it. It doesn't mean people won't disagree with you, but you're still a fan.

Even though Drake got banned, I'll still reply with what I want to say.

As far as you liking Hogan/Rock/Andre whatever, that's cool. Your entitled to who you like as anyone else is. I don't see who would give you a problem with that. I'm always with people who say Hogan is better than Bret Hart, but I never fight it. It's just the way people believe.

Hogan/Rock is my MOTY as well. Not because the crowd, the build, the story of the match itself, and that it was a dream match...but it's because I was marking out huge for Hogan. It may not have been a ***** technical match, but it sure as hell has been probably the best match so far this year. People say Rock/Jericho from Rumble was great, but I remember watching it sitting with my arms crossed the whole match. I was more excited for the Rumble, if anything.

Basically....if you don't like Bret/Benoit/whatever and you like Hogan/Rock/whatever, that doesn't make you any less of a fan than anyone else.

Its your personal opinion whom you like and dislike, you don't need to defend them to anyone. Espically in a crowd like us. Hell I been watching wrestling since 86 im the Last of the Haku Fans LOL Islanders Kicked ass Damn it! and when I was younger I popped for the Andre's vs Hogans, vs Macho Man's vs Ultimate Warriors etc etc etc

Pomp and big Pops back in the day. Up to now... I Like all Kinds of wrestlers and Only openly Dislike two wrestlers, Ultimate Warrior, and Goldberg... hell I Take that Pick Ax Wielding Garbage wrestler Mr.Pogo over Goldberg anyday.

Different people are entertained by different things. We tend to get wrapped up in the * rating system when in fact the * system we refer to most (Scott Keith's) is more a way of ranking how good or how well the match flowed rather than how entertaining it was. Where we get lost is the fact that we DO find matches that are technically sound and flow well entertaining.

I'm a HUGE Angle fan but his ultimate submission match with Benoit from Backlash 2001, while good, just wasn't really that entertaining to me. I enjoyed the Raven vs. Rhyno hardcore match much more. A couple of weeks ago my friends and I rented Halloween Havoc 98' and really enjoyed the PPV despite not one match on there being as good as the Angle/Benoit ultimate submission match. Watching Hogan v Warrior part II was one of the most entertaining 30 minutes I've seen in wrestling in months because it was SO bad it was good. We were dying of laughter it was so bad, thus we were entertained by Hogan and the Ultimate Warrior. The match was an easy -**** in our eyes but an easy **** star match in terms of sheer entertainment value.

Naw...and crowd reaction is a big part of the matches you mentioned. And Hogan-Warrior 1 was indeed perhaps those two guys' finest hour. Even if they aren't the best workers, it was still a great match.

However...I hope you don't mean Hogan-Warrior 2. And if you like that...then like someone else said you are indeed "a goddamn cracksmoking braindead moron." :P No offense.
