Thoughts on RAW (Feb 18, 2002)

-RAW was very Crash-TV mushed together with 1997 Nitro.  JR was AWFUL.  I've never heard this man so bad, or so much like Schiavone.  It's a little scary.

The Rock-Hogan faceoff was very surreal at times, espiecally when the fans started chanting "Hogan" alongside "Rocky".  Does that not negate everything we smarts stand for?  I don't know, but it's still great to see Hogan back in the WWF, damn the nay-sayers.  The whole ambulance-smashing bit was "entertaining" and "funny", even a little "disturbing".  In any case, Rock will be getting a rest, which may or may not add to what could be a red-hot build for his match against Hogan for WM.  Like I have said, if Hogan comes motivated, in and out of the ring, it's gonna be a hell of a feud.  It was great seeing all the finishers from the nWo guys again too, because, hey, I'm a mark for finishers, and if you can't mark for finishers, then you may suck at life...

-As for the wrestling, it was non-existant outside of a decent HHH/Angle main that was better than their PPV match the night before.  I'd give it **1/2.  We may also have Taker-Flair for WM, which will be fine if both guys come motivated.  See the connection here.  I'm starting to sound like DDP.  But that's not a bad thing, it's a..........never mind.  RVD is still the hidden messiah of the I-C division, but the WWF has yet to realize it.  Have patience I say.  Overall, the show felt like 1997, which is cute the first couple of times, but then it may get old.  Let's hope that's not the case, as the Build to WM is the last Vince wants to botch right now....

INTERNATIONAL WRESTLING NEWS

-The one big story today is Kenta Kobashi (NOAH) has hurt his left knee, and it is suggested that he take four months off to get it worked on.  Kenta is all "not gonna do it" as he had just returned from a long layoff to team with Mitsuharu Misawa in a loss to Jun Akiyama and Yuij Nagata at the 2/17 NOAH show at the Nippon Budokan.  For those who are uninformed, Kobashi was one of the Four Corners of Heaven in All-Japan in the 1990's, and is widely regarded as one of the best heavyweights of all-time.  Kobashi is insisting on going against doctor's orders to wrestle on the upcoming NOAH tour from March 14th to April 7th, which includes a tour ending GHC title match against Jun Akiyama.  He risks further damage to his already fragile knees, and it is being suggested that he wear knee-braces ala Steve Austin.  It is also being suggested that Misawa convince Kobashi to take time off or retire.  More as this story thickens...

Guest godthedog

that's incredibly sad, especially since he's so young.
