Wow the Transitional champions hold it the longest

This is kinda funny. The 2 transitional champions(Jericho and UT) have both held the Undisputed title the longest.

UT wasn't even supposed to get it until the Hogan nostalgia trip failed. And I gurantee if HHH hadn't hurt his elbow he would've won at KOTR. But so far the 2 Transitional champs have held it longer than the men who were supposed to carry the company(HHH and Hogan). That's just funny.....

Whats really funny is that Jericho had the best run this year.

 

And everyone called him a failure.

Well lets compare the four champs(its four right?I lose count sometimes):

 

Hogan: One month long, had a heatless fued with Undertaker. WWE lost teen demographic(big word!)

 

HHH: BIG mistake. One month title reign that was basically forgetable. On par with Bret Hart's 24 hour title reign, cept Bret had good matches.

 

Undertaker: The suprise of the year. If he wins at Vengeance it will be month 3 as champ.Has had some good, not nessacerly great, but good matches with the main eventers as well as new blood like Orton, Hardy, etc.

 

Chris jericho: 4 month title reign that kicked major ass, even when it wasn't supposed to. Gave the promo of the year during his feud with Rock in january and was over bigtime as a heel. The Flair-Jericho rebuttals was awesome too.

 

OKay so on a scale of 1 to 4, one being the greatest, 4 being the lowest it goes like this:

1. Jericho

2.Undertaker

3. Hogan

3. HHH

 

Yeah I know i said 4 but i couldnt figure out which was better/worse between the two H's.

I actually like Taker's run more than Jericho's. Jericho started off well, but he will be forever tainted by the HHH feud.

 

Taker isn't as good a wrestler, but he has been far more interesting as champ. He has successfully defended the title on practically every show.

Taker isn't as good a wrestler, but he has been far more interesting as champ. He has successfully defended the title on practically every show.

I've really enjoyed Taker's run, he's the first champ in awhile that's been booked to look dominant. Taker has also defended the title a lot and at the same time made his opponents come away looking better than they started. (Angle, RVD, Jeff Hardy in the ladder match.) Actually coming out of a feud or match with Taker and coming away a stronger character than when you started is something we would have never dreamed of this time last year. It's too bad "no-selling" face Undertaker is coming back next week.

 

Jericho's run was just as good, but he's turned into such a loser and such a non-factor because of it that it really sort of taints the memory.

Why do so many people call Jericho's run a failure and use it as proof that he shouldn't get the title again? Ratings were steady, and he has held the title the longest of recent Champs. Plus, he was booked to fail.

 

I don't fault the WWE for giving the title to Hogan. I didn't like it, but HHH was bombing and Hogan was really popular, they had to take a shot.

 

Undertaker has surprised me with his run, it's been better then I thought it would. If it would've ended with him putting RVD over at Summerslam instead of him losing it to Rocky to lose it to Brock it would've been better, but hey he's worked with a lot of lower card guys you've got to give him credit.

 

HHH will be back in the hunt, like it or not. I wouldn't be surprised if HHH is the one to take the title from Brock.

With Hogan theytried to strike while the iron was hot. It failed so they quickly got the title off him.

 

I'm also digging Taker's latest reign. He's a good champion and I think he's helping bring back prestige.

 

I think HHH's reign was cut out from under him cause of Hulkamania so who knows what that could've been.

I started enjoying Jericho less and less, beginning with the "Oh shit, he's fighting Austin for the title, isn't he... we should... maybe... build up?" that happened 2 shows before the match, and culminating not with 'Mania, but HIAC. But for one month, he was the greatest thing... EVER.

 

Taker's run has been surprisingly good, though it started off slow - he's been doing a lot for the younger guys, and putting on matches a few notches above "Decent".

 

Hogan - Not touching this reign with a 10 foot pole.

 

Triple H - I might not have minded so much if it WENT anywhere... but it didn't.

UT was supposed to be transitional but through luck(and a pretty damn good reign suprisingly) he's held onto it.

Jericho it seemed like they were going to do something with him but then once HHH came back it was pretty much a foregone conclusion he was only keeping the belt warm for HHH.

There's always at least one or two transitional champions each year. Surprisngly it's been Rock more times than not.

 

- 2000, Backlash to Judgment Day

- 2001, No Way Out to Wrestlemania

- If all goes as we thing it will, 2002 Vengeance to Summerslam

 

- I really don't count the HHH, Hogan, Taker log jam as transitional champions but just no direction on the part of the writers.

If Rock wins on Sunday, he'll be transitional champion again, when he drops it to Brock before he goes to film a movie.

 

Anyway, I'd be hesitant to call Undertaker a "transitional champ", but whether he is or isn't he's had a damn good run, which I hope he can continue. If he wins at Vengeance, maybe as his last act as champion he can give the rub and the title to Brock in a match that'll leave Brock with some more desperately needed heat.

The Rock is Mr. Transition. You also forget his initial run which was basically to feed him to Austin at WM. He and Mankind were both transition guys in between Austin runs.

 

I actually don't think that Brock is going to be a transition champ. I mean, in press conferenes the McMahons have referred to him as being the next big star they will develop, so he looks like a long term champ. Whether that is good or not is up to debate.
