Guest Your God Report post Posted February 20, 2002 This doesn't have to be the worst PPV ever, but just the one you had high hopes for and were let down. My pick would have to be WWF INVASION. For such a huge show with such a huge buyrate, there wasn't much good on it. The RVD match was very enjoyable, but it was basically a message stating "Hey WWF fans, this is RVD, this is what he can do, enjoy." The women's tag match was horrible, but I still enjoyed it anyway. The last match was decent, but definitly not up to the standards set by other 10-men tag matches (the 2000 RAW one, Canadian Stampede, etc.). What are your picks? (PS: Sorry if this is in the wrong folder, I'm just expecting a lot of picks to be old school stuff for some reason)
Guest Tony149 Report post Posted February 20, 2002 I would also have to say InVasion. I also say Starrcade '97 was a big disappointment. Matches didn't happen, bad booking, etc.
Guest Drury37 Report post Posted February 20, 2002 One that comes to mind is WWF WrestleMania XV,I thougth that it was gonna the greatest WrestleMania ever, but other than The Rock/Austin match it was pretty disappointing. It all seems like King of the Ring's and Survivor Series' can sometimes be a little disappointing. Thanks.
Guest dreamer420 Report post Posted February 20, 2002 I have never been disappointed with a whole PPV. Some parts have their bad moments and let downs but there isn't one PPV I can think of where the whole thing left me disappointed.
Guest Drury37 Report post Posted February 20, 2002 How about WCW Great American Bash 1991?Did that leave you a little disappointed? Thanks.
Guest packwingfn Report post Posted February 20, 2002 WWF No Way Out 2002 This pay per view lived up to the hype of the nWo bein a poison, a leathal threat, yet it was just stupid and make them look like Regular Heels, luckily they changed that on Raw last night. Guest Tony149 Report post Posted February 20, 2002 I don't know how GAB '91 would of turned out if Flair had stayed. I think most of the matches were already announced by the time Flair left. Besides Sting/Koloff, none of the matches were good.
Guest scratch Report post Posted February 20, 2002 I'd have to say one of the most disappointing PPV's ever was Halloween Havoc 2000 with Sting/Jarrett, and Booker/Steiner. Both matches could have hit ***1/2 to **** easily, but with screwjob endings and clusterfucks galore, it was easily one of the worst shows ever. DNA on a pole match anyone? Scratch
Guest Your God Report post Posted February 20, 2002 At the time, I'd also have had to say WRESTLEMANIA 2000, but I was probably just a little sore at the time that the faces didn't go ever in the main event. Still, if I went back and watched it now, I probably could appreciate it more.
Guest Some Guy Report post Posted February 20, 2002 Mania 2000 is better in hindsight. Survivor Series 2001 was billed as the biggest night ever or something buit aside from the good main it wasn't very good.
Guest packwingfn Report post Posted February 20, 2002 "Your God", I think your right thought, Wrestlemania 2000 was kinda disappoiting, not cus it didnt live up to the hype, it didn't really have too much hype into it in the first place, there wasnt really any singles matches on the PPV, too many tag team matches though there were some classics to mention, the First Triangle Ladder Match between Hardys,Dudleys & E-C, the Triple Threat Match between Benoit-Jericho-Angle was great too but otherwise, it was kinda disappoiting and plus the 4 way was alrite but too many McMahons, why do the McMahons always have to ruin a good match? I've been down here before All my bones and joints are sore Find my way out of the wreck again I've been down here before Lost myself and so much more Find my way out of the game again Finger 11 - Bones & Joints
Guest Tim Cooke Report post Posted February 20, 2002 New Blood Rising as it had the potential for an above average Mike Awesome v Lance Storm match, an above average Jeff Jarrett v Booker T match, and a good ladder match (which is the only match that produced) Tim
Guest DEEP THOUGHT Report post Posted February 20, 2002 For WCW it would have to be Starrcade 1997. I can't believe that the bookers screwed up EVERY SINGLE MATCH. For the WWF I thought that Survivor Series 1989 & 90 was disappointing. Nothing of note came from the '89 installment, and in '90 the matches were far to short & for whatever reason Randy Savage wasn't involved in any of the matches. I believe that almost a third of those eliminated got DQed or counted out instead of doing the job.
Guest The Man in Blak Report post Posted February 20, 2002 WCW Starrcade '97 - no contest here. My WWF vote goes in for Wrestlemania XII, mainly because of the Iron Man match that was supposed to be touted as a earth-shattering affair and a really lackluster return from the Warrior. Guest goodhelmet Report post Posted February 20, 2002 The WCW double shot of Road Wild and Fall Brawl 98. Jay Leno headlines one and then the worst display of a cage that resembled a Wargames but stood for everything that the Wargames isn't These two shows made me stop paying for WCW PPVs. Pathetic For the WWF, most disappointing was Invasion, the wrestling was average but the importance of the show needed everyone to kick it up a gear and noone did. Very disappointing. Guest Drury37 Report post Posted February 20, 2002 In the long run Invasion didn't mean anything,so it was like who cares.Nothing meaningful came out of Invasion. Thanks.
Guest goodhelmet Report post Posted February 20, 2002 "In the long run Invasion didn't mean anything,so it was like who cares.Nothing meaningful came out of Invasion." Well, nothing meaningful came out of any other crappy ppv either. The Invasion should have been still going on strong but the McMahons f'd it up and from its importance at the time, it was a huge disappointment.
Guest Army Eye Report post Posted February 20, 2002 Starrcade '97. One of the most heavily anticipated PPVs ever. What a massive disappointment
Guest Juvydriver Report post Posted February 20, 2002 I've gotta throw my hat in the ring for Starrcade 1997. The undercard was the shits, and that could have been forgiven if they would have done the right thing and let Sting whip Hogan's ass. I'm talking a 15 minute squash with only token offense from Hogan. That was one thing I never understood. Sting spent the better part of 14 months beating up EVERYBODY. There wasn't a group of guys he couldn't take on his own. He beat up the entire 500 man roster of the nWo on several occasions, but Hogan had his way with him. I never understood that. Guest lowavenue Report post Posted February 21, 2002 Starrcade 97 by a mile. Survivor Series 99 bored the life out of me.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted February 22, 2002 I didn't hate Invasion. RVD/Hardy was good. E+C vs. Storm & Awesome was good. Xpac/Kidman was good. Tajiri/Tazz was decent but short. And the Main Event wasn't horrible.
Guest goodhelmet Report post Posted February 22, 2002 I didn't hate Invasion either but considering the importance of the angle at the time, it should have been mind-blowing. Bad booking and average wrestling is not the way you want to promote the biggest angle in history, at the time. RVD and Hardy was a sweet match and so was the opener but it could have been so much more.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted February 22, 2002 Maybe I wasn't disapointed because I've come to expect bad booking from the WWF. WrestleMania 2000 was disapointing. Why couldn't they have had ONE singles match on the card?
Guest goodhelmet Report post Posted February 22, 2002 "WrestleMania 2000 was disapointing. Why couldn't they have had ONE singles match on the card?" No shiT!!!!! Thankfully, the three way and the Pre-TLC matches were great.
Guest Mark4steamboat Report post Posted February 23, 2002 WM2k was a really bad WRESTLEMANIA. alot of crappy matches(buchanan bossman/dlo godfather, headcheese/ t&a, there were others but i cant think) The hardcore battle royale was a fun 15 minutes but the ending made no sense. For years, the only Wrestlemania i hadnt seen and when i was 11, a new video store opened that had it and OMG what a snoozefest. AWFUL~ ppv in every sense of the word. Worst wrestlemania of all time. Guest Tony149 Report post Posted February 23, 2002 WrestleMania 2000 was a disappointment. Lots of filler matches. Seemed like the first year the WWF tried to put most of it's roster on the PPV.
Guest dreamer420 Report post Posted February 23, 2002 I actually like Wrestlemania 2000. Jericho/Benoit/Angle was a pretty decent little match and the stipulation with the titles was cool too. The Triangle Tag Team Ladder Match (later dubbed TLC @ Summerslam 2000) was something like we had never seen at the time from the WWF and I was amazed. The main event made me happy because I got to see Mick Foley main event a Wrestlemania. It would have been nice for him to win the title but we didn't get that. Overall I enjoyed the PPV very much. Guest nWoScorpion Report post Posted February 23, 2002 My Top 5 worst PPVS witnessed: Wrestlemania 2000: Good thing All Day Long drew interest to me. Lets see, gimmick, gimmick ,shit, shit, gimmick , lladders, intero-euro, shit, cheap main event. Wrestlemania 2: Lets see........um.....i rmemeber the battle royal & tag titles...........and savage selling a smack with FLOWERS! In Your house 4: Goldusts debut..........and thats just about it. Survivor Series 1998: 14 Man tournament in 1 night = <snoring> and finally, the crap de grace..... KING OF THE F'N RING 1995: MABEL def. UT WITH A LEGDROP!?!?!?!?! SAVIO def. ROADIE IN SEMI FINALS?!!?!? BAM BAM & TATANKA IN MAIN EVENT?!?!? KISS MY FOOT?!?!!? SAVIO x4!?!?! NEED I AY MORE?!?!!?
Guest JHawk Report post Posted February 23, 2002 I don't understand the disapproval with WrestleMania 2000 when compared to the other crap that's been considered WrestleMania. I know some people refuse to get over the main event being a four way but there were some incredible matches on it. You can't necessarily say the same for other WrestleManias. WrestleMania IV...does anybody remember it at all? Savage wrestled 4 times, that's all I remember. WrestleMania 2 had Savage selling being hit by flowers and Refrigerator Perry, although it did have a solid Tag Title Match. WrestleMania VI had the main event and not much else. Hell, get rid of Hart-Austin and WrestleMania 13 looks like WCW Thunder from the Russo era. Trust me, things could get much worse than WrestleMania 2000. Guest kingkamala Report post Posted February 23, 2002 Well why did you get your hopes up with King of the Ring 1995 here are my thoughts as a smark Sid and Tatanka Vs. Bam Bam Bigalow and Diesel: I thought this match would be boring, I didn't like Sid for powerbombing HBK. Tatanka hadn't caught my attention since early 1994. Bam Bam, mehhh... useless good guy turn and didn't care for him. Diesel, I really liked him for a short while when he beat Bob Backlund in 7 seconds cause I was upset when Backlund beat Bret Hart, but after WMXI his tittle defenses were lackluster and meaningless. Bret Hart Vs. Jerry Lawler: Alright this had the potential to be an okay comedy match, but I guess it failed. I liked Bret Hart but was losing interest in Bret Hart at the time due to the fact they were reviving a feud that was dead for two years before. Now onto the tourney Savio Vega Vs Yokozuna: I knew even as a major mark this match would be Savio trying to knock Yoko on his ass and pin him or Yoko just squashing the unknown The Roadie Vs. Bob Holly: Manager Vs. JTTS, I didn't have high expectations but to their credit they did have the Match of the Night(At a whopping ***1/4) Shawn Michaels Vs. Kama: Shawn Michaels was like a bell hop at this point he could carry just about everyone to a good match, although Kama sucked HBK did carry Kama to somewhat decent match Undertaker Vs. Mabel: Craptastic! The Roadie Vs. Savio Vega: Manager Vs. Guy I'd never seen, very boring and by this time the crowd was as pissed as Bad News Brown at Survivor Series 88 and 89. Savio Vega Vs. Mabel: By this time I knew this was the worst WWF PPV of all time by god Mabel as the King of The Ring is one of #1 of Vince McMahon's greatest mistakes. Now why would Vince McMahon even think of putting on that piece of junk on PPV for thirty bucks and put it live in Philly in front of a pissed off Faith No More guy and friends.
