Guest jimmy no nose Report post Posted July 21, 2002 Well, I can tell you that cable is sent through a cable line making it much faster, making it so that you don't have to wait for it to connect and also not tying up the phone. Not sure about anything else.

Guest admin Report post Posted July 21, 2002 I'm not too clear on internet connections besides phone lines. What're they like and how do they work? What exactly is pipeline, cable, roadrunner, ect al? 1st - There are many ways for internet connectivity or any WAN (Wide Area Network) connectivity. I am only gonna talk about the most common for residential use. 1 - Cable Modem, Charter Pipeline, RoadRunner, Comcast, all have Cable modem services. However most times they have X amount of bandwidth for each "Sector" and often over do it.(Slow Speeds) These are basicly thebest for the future due to their High Speeds which can be used in the future(30-40Mbps) 2 - DSL, ADSL XDSL all the same basicly all limited to 1.544 Mbps typically. However they say they don't share customers but most do anyways. 3 - Sateilite Not to much experience here. i have heard speeds of about 300Kbits/s not to facny however ALOT more than dialup. Theres alot more i could go into detail however my time is limited and this should cover your question. FYI: Please forgive me if i mispeIIed anything or mis calculated things. No one is perfect. I used to have DSL. It was fast but somehow people conviced me to go with Comcast Cable. I thought it'd be slower since DSL ppl claimed that I wasn't gonna share bandwith with other customers. Every 3 months though, my bill went up for some ridiculous reasons. So I swithed to cable and it's fucking amazing. It's faster than DSL and have 7 email accounts instead of two with my Dsl provider. I also have access to newsgroups and my online control panel. Cable rules DSL. Period!
Guest MarvinisaLunatic Report post Posted July 21, 2002 And when you live out in the middle of nowhere like I do, you can't get any type of broadband except for the 80 a month satellite crap thats half dialup for the upload and like 512k download over the satellite signal. Screw that. Im surprised I even have a phone line, and if it weren't for the Satelites I have, I would have 3 channels (ABC,CBS and PBS) for TV. Did I mention I hate living in the middle of nowhere...
Guest kkktookmybabyaway Report post Posted July 24, 2002 Eww, where do you live (and don't say "middle of nowhere") Add me onto the RoadRunner fan club list. And the price is like $5 more than getting a dial-up service and extra phone line...
Guest lomasmoney Report post Posted July 26, 2002 I've tried convincing my parents that cable is the way to go but the first thing they say is its too expensive, and i tell them you're paying 30 bucks for MSN and the phone line is tied up and it would be worth the extra ten dollars to get cable but they are too stupid to realize this. O to be 18 and still in high school damn broken arm and wrist
