Kung Fu on DVD

Are there any good movies worth buying that are out in Region 1? (I wish HKL was here, then I wouldn't hafto ask.)

Most of the DVDs dont do HK cinema justice. Just look at Wal-Mart; you'll see all these 6-7 dollar Bruce Lee DVDs with VQ so horrible, he's probably spinning in his grave.

This seems like good a time as any to ask why the title of every Jet Li movie starts "Jet Li's The..........."?

It just bugs me!

the Jet Li movies have his name in the title because in most cases the orginal names from HK are changed for USA distribution reasons or they want to pimp a box set.

The Defender = The Body Guard from Beijing

The Enforcer? = My Father was a Hero

The Legend = The Legend of Fuk Yong Sai

I thought The Killer and Hard Boiled were out of print? Or is there a non-Criterion DVD available in the U.S.? The Killer's one of my favorite movies, so I'd like to know... I thought I'd have to wait and import the upcoming Region 2 Hong Kong Legends version.

I have the Fox Lober Films Release from 2000, its in mono and that has a bad transfer with noticable lines in the begining of the movie. I got it at Virgin Megastore for $35 for the set of Killer & Hard Boiled.

Look for "The John Woo Collection". There aren't a whole lot of features, but it has the original Cantonese track.

Jackie Chan movies are a lot worse with the names. I forgot the titles, but they released the sequel first, then the first movie.

Most of the Jackie Chan movies released by Dimension only have the English dub. Damn you Disney!

You're think of "Operation Condor" and "Operation Condor 2: Armor of God" which were ACTUALLY released as "Armor of God" and "Armor of God 2: Operation Condor". If you're confused, Armor of God had the black Kung Fu chicks...

And to add more confusion, Fists of Fury over here was called the Big Boss in the rest of the world, but the movie Fists of Fury in the rest of the world was called The Chinese Connection here.
