Guest PlatypusFool Report post Posted July 21, 2002 What is the greatest album ever made? Let's try and discuss this and talk about everyone's choices shall we? Ooo, and also, give reasons why you pick the album you do... I think the best album ever is The Beach Boys - Pet Sounds... ... The artistic craft in this record is just AWESOME. The arrangement of each song is perfect in terms of breaking down the traditional pop song structure and innovating it into something new. The tunes are all catchy pop songs yet beautiful in their own ways. The lyrics are personal yet they can be applied to just about any person on earth who should be able to identify with what they are saying. The experimentation with instuments is incredible as they are odd sounds yet they fit so well with the songs. Everything works really well together and the whole album is fused with emotion. As an album it can be listened to from start to finish as an experience rather than a collection of songs. The best album ever, without a doubt in my mind. Guest thefrenchargel Report post Posted July 21, 2002 Black Sabbath's first album. Every song on it fits perfectly with the others. It was pretty heavy, but still showed their blues influence. It's one of probably half a dozen CDs I own that I can just put in and hit play and love every track.

Guest redbaron51 Report post Posted July 21, 2002 hmmm... I would say Dark Side of the Moon, which is probably one of the greatest albums ever made
Guest LooseCannon Report post Posted July 21, 2002 I haven't heard Pet Sounds, but I think everything you said about it, you can say about the Pixies Doolittle, plus it has the insane genius of Frank Black. The only weak track is Silver. Every other song on Doolittle is fucking brilliant though. It's my favorite album, over anything by the Beatles, Dylan, Radiohead, Pink Floyd... anything. Guest Sebastian_the_Bastard Report post Posted July 21, 2002 Way to hard to choose one... but Taking Back Sunday's debut is simply amazing. Honorable Mentions: Blink182 - Dude Ranch Lagwagon - Hoss
Guest CoreyLazarus416 Report post Posted July 21, 2002 Elvis Presley's first major hit album, I dunno the title of it ("Heartbreak Hotel" on it?), but it changed music FOREVER.

Guest Hogan Made Wrestling Report post Posted July 22, 2002 Led Zeppelin - Physical Graffiti This is a totally awesome album that features practically every end of the spectrum that Led Zep built. There's classic hard rock, blues rock, country rock, mixes of eastern music, everything. A ton of classics on this album: Kashmir, Ten Years Gone, In the Light, In My Time of Dying, and others. Honorables: Pink Floyd - Meddle This one doesn't get as much praise as the others (which are all great, and among them Wish You Were Here, Animals and Dark Side of the Moon would all be near my top 10) so I figured I'd mention it. Echoes is the crown jewel of Pink Floyd's work, and the first side of the album features 3 really good songs. Black Sabbath - Volume 4 The best Black Sabbath album, it doesn't get as much recognition as hits-heavy ones like Paranoid, but it features by far the best blend of Sabbath's heavy metal sound and their musical abilities. Hard rocking classics like Snowblind, Cornucopia, and Wheels of Confusion are mixed with lower key songs like Changes, FX and St. Vitus' Dance to create a truly unique album. The closer, Under the Sun/Every Day Comes and Goes is a really great piece.
Guest evenflowDDT Report post Posted July 22, 2002 I really don't think there is a best album ever. And I never liked Nevermind either.
Guest goodhelmet Report post Posted July 22, 2002 silly rabbits! the beatles' abbey road is the perfect musical masterpiece. a close second is the stones' beggar's banquet
Guest Kinetic Report post Posted July 22, 2002 I tend towards Abbey Road as well, although I think Pet Sounds has more great songs. Ultimately, though, there is no greatest album ever and threads like this are sort of pointless. Throwing some sort of added qualifier into the mix--like, "Best album by a bad band" or whatever--is more interesting and creates better discussion. For future reference. Guest thefrenchargel Report post Posted July 22, 2002 Black Sabbath - Volume 4 The best Black Sabbath album, it doesn't get as much recognition as hits-heavy ones like Paranoid, but it features by far the best blend of Sabbath's heavy metal sound and their musical abilities. Hard rocking classics like Snowblind, Cornucopia, and Wheels of Confusion are mixed with lower key songs like Changes, FX and St. Vitus' Dance to create a truly unique album. The closer, Under the Sun/Every Day Comes and Goes is a really great piece. Vol. 4 the best Sabbath album? Wow..don't think I've ever seen anyone praise it THAT much..don't get me wrong, it rules, but I thought the self-titled and Master of Reality were better. IMO, The first one has a great blend of heaviness and blues, but still with the darker elements in Black Sabbath and the medley at the end with Warning. Sleeping Villiage pretty much pioneered their whole tripped out weird stuff. Plus the whole album just fits together perfectly. Tool's Lateralus does the same thing, which is why it's my favorite release by them, although pretty much everyone disagrees and says the best one is Opiate, which is an opinion I can't really argue against too much, as that album is the ungodly shit. Guest Hogan Made Wrestling Report post Posted July 22, 2002 I like almost all Black Sabbath (Ozzy-era) but I like 4 just that much better. I agree with you on Sleeping Village/Warning, that's a great track that sounds like a pure blues jam and a great example of the early Sabbath sound. MOR is also great as you said, as is SBS. Guest M Nyland Report post Posted July 22, 2002 I'm going to go with Dark Side of the Moon as well...because I said Pink Floyd was better than the Beatles in the other thread... and because I think DSOTM is a masterpiece
Guest LooseCannon Report post Posted July 22, 2002 That's the one of the only Beatles album I haven't heard. For some reason, I was always under the impression that that one was fairly inessential. Damn. I guess I'll have to look out for it.

The pixies b sides is one of my favourites too, which says a lot about how great they really are. But Stag for me is the best album ever.
Guest mesepher Report post Posted July 22, 2002 Elvis Presley's first major hit album, I dunno the title of it ("Heartbreak Hotel" on it?), but it changed music FOREVER. that's very difficult to debate since Elvis is indeed the one to blame for all of this musical nonsense but, thats why he is the KING! Guest treble charged Report post Posted July 23, 2002 Something like this is completely subjective, as certain genres are being completely ignored (country, for example). I say, whatever YOUR favourite album is, that's the greatest album of all time.
