Is Red TNA's answer to Rey Misterio Jr.?

Take this with a grain of salt since it's all based on things I've heard rather than seen with my own eyes...but...

I was listening to WOL today, and Meltzer put over how great he thought Red was. He said thta the first time he saw him he reminded him of Rey Misterio Jr at that stage of his career.

Now...It struck me that Red is making his TNA debut the day before Misterio makes his WWE return.

And from what I hear...Rey looks fantastic. (although questions about how good he is now compared to his WCW time are around...due to injuries and the pesky WWE style)

We all know that the one thing TNA has going for them is the X divsision...so with 2 pretty high profile X matches on the card (Low-Ki/Red, Styles & Lynn/Elvises) fans of the X division will likely be tuning in.

And those same people are going to watch SD! to see Rey.

Do you think Jerry Jarrett brought Red in because he thinks he can outdo what Rey can do now? And that when people watch both they'll still be higher on the X division?

I only wonder because Rey is the most legitamite threat to make people shun the X division that the WWE has.

What do you think?

Coincidence? Plan?

Anyway...I found it interesting.

Red is nothing but spots, Rey Jr. is a much more well-rounded pro wrestler. Red compares more to say, Jeff Hardy, than to Mysterio.

Ok.

I'll take your word since I haven't seen either.

Oh...I've seen Rey several times.

I just meant recently since I keep hearing he isn't quite the same.

I saw Rey live at Superbrawl 2001, and he was okay. Not bad, but not the daredevil extraordinare that he used to be.

But as for Red, I'd say that he might be TNA's answer to the Brooklyn Brawler for all we know, being as he hasn't had his first match in the company yet.

Seems like they are adding a new wrestler to the X division just about every week so I'm not sure this is in relation to Rey coming in.

Red would probably get more interest in the X-Division just because he's so flashy with the moves he does. He's not a great wrestler or anything, but he is an awesome spot machine.

I'd like to see Xavier in NWA TNA's X-Division. He has had some bad ass matches with AJ Styles, Low Ki, Red, and Scoot Andrews.

bps wasn't doubting Rey's talent. He also wasn't claiming that this Red guy is as good as Rey was in his prime.

No one is doubting that Rey was amazing. But the sad fact is that Rey will be a shadow of his former self. When you combine his injuries with the dreaded WWeee style Rey will be Regal with a hurracarana in WWeee. I don't have a problem with mat wrestling but it shouldn't be a focal point in a cruiser division.

So since WWeee has shown over and over again that they want ground based cruiser matches. A match like Lowki vs. Red(spotty or not) will outshine the WWeee version of Rey to fans of cruiserweight matches.

That is unless WWeee made ground based matches to get fans expecting it then when Rey comes they will let them go full out to give Rey's debut a bigger impact. But that's just wishful thinking since we all know WWeee won't allow that. Can't allow fans to see cruisers going all out when they are still trying to sale Hogan, HHH and Undertaker to those same fans.

give him a chance. he'll surprise you.

also why would you ever say rey will be regal with a hurricanrana? i'm still waiting to see regal have a good match in the wwe and I know we will see one from rey this week.

Red, for being a year or so into his career, is amazing. When Red has had the same amount of experience that Rey had while he busted out the awesome matches - then you can ligitly compare the two.

Red will be a star because he's flashy, and can bump. He's still in his rookie years, though.

Rey is a shell of his former self. Has been since early 1998. To say Rey is more well rounded it to say an apple is shaped as a square and not a circular shape.

Regal was just the best name for the comparison to work. I wasn't referring to Regal's WWeee career just to the fact that Regal is known as a ground based mat wrestler. Which unless they were waiting on Rey's debut to allow them to go full out the WWeee cruiser division is ground based mat wrestling with a few cruiser moves thrown in.

Which leads to the comparison of Regal with a hurracarana to WWeee Rey Misterio. It wasn't a comparison of matches.
