Guest MrRant Posted July 22, 2002 Report Posted July 22, 2002 This is based primarily on people who have been successful as standup comedians. My pick is George Carlin
Guest chirs3 Posted July 22, 2002 Report Posted July 22, 2002 Of the ones mentioned, George Carlin easily wins. But one of my favorites, more recent, is Paula Poundstone.
Guest geniusMoment Posted July 22, 2002 Report Posted July 22, 2002 I don't think god's all that funny, his sense of humor is too dry for my tastes
Guest M Nyland Posted July 22, 2002 Report Posted July 22, 2002 George Carlin wins... of the newer comedians...I like The Amazing Jonathan for some reason
Guest chirs3 Posted July 22, 2002 Report Posted July 22, 2002 Oh God, I forgot about the Amazing Jonothan. He's absolutely hysterical. AJ: "Excuse me miss, yes you in the front row, do you like birds?" Woman: "Yes." *AJ pulls his hand out from under the magic hankey and flips her off* AJ: No seriously, you like birds? *woman nods* *AJ swishes the hankey, and a pidgeon appears - he then punches it to death*
Guest MrRant Posted July 22, 2002 Report Posted July 22, 2002 I miss living in Las Vegas.... there were SOOO many comedy clubs and Carlin and all came by all the time.
Guest M Nyland Posted July 22, 2002 Report Posted July 22, 2002 yes...AJ is awesome....but I would rather hear Carlin...I listen to his airline stuff all the time
Guest MrRant Posted July 22, 2002 Report Posted July 22, 2002 I've seen George and actually met him once. He was pretty cool. Just a quick handshake and a couple words. He was suprised I was there because I was only like 16 at the time.
Guest imajackoff? Posted July 22, 2002 Report Posted July 22, 2002 I'll go with Carlin as well. Pryor is a close second, but George gets the nod for the larger body of work. I would also have put folks like Freddie Prinze and Bill Hicks in the voting instead of hacks Allen and Romano.
Guest razazteca Posted July 22, 2002 Report Posted July 22, 2002 I voted for Kinnison because he is the natural choice.....he is angry, short, balding, a drunk. I wish Sam was my guardian angel my current favorite is Carlos Mensia would Penn & Teller count or are they something else

I wish Sam was my guardian angel my current favorite is Carlos Mensia would Penn & Teller count or are they something else I consider them primarily magicians with their gimmick being some comedy.
Guest razazteca Posted July 22, 2002 Report Posted July 22, 2002 so Penn and Teller would be lumped together with prop comedians like Gallahger, Amazing Johnaton, Carrot Top? sound reasonable where is Lenny Bruce, he is suppose to be great performer in his day.
Guest MrRant Posted July 22, 2002 Report Posted July 22, 2002 so Penn and Teller would be lumped together with prop comedians like Gallahger, Amazing Johnaton, Carrot Top? sound reasonable where is Lenny Bruce, he is suppose to be great performer in his day. I never saw Lenny Bruce so... couldn't tell you. I heard he was good, but I figure most people here haven't head him.
Guest evenflowDDT Posted July 22, 2002 Report Posted July 22, 2002 She's not on the list, but I really like Margaret Cho. I can't wait for the release of her next concert film Notorious C.H.O. Anyone else around here like her, or know who she is?

Guest M Nyland Posted July 22, 2002 Report Posted July 22, 2002 was Carlos Mensia the guy that was on Comedy Central Presents and talked about all the stereotypes in the world
Guest imajackoff? Posted July 22, 2002 Report Posted July 22, 2002 margaret cho is pretty good. her concert movie pops up on cable every now and then.
Guest MDH257 Posted July 22, 2002 Report Posted July 22, 2002 Notorious C.H.O was just released on CD. The album was recorded in NYC, the movie was filmed in Seattle. So they're not the same performance. She talks about sex a lot more than her family though.
Guest cartman Posted July 22, 2002 Report Posted July 22, 2002 HUGE Carlin Mark here I also hafta mention Dane Cook, funny bastard!
Guest Marshall Posted July 22, 2002 Report Posted July 22, 2002 I cant believe you added Tim Allen and not Jerry Sienfeld.
Guest starvenger Posted July 22, 2002 Report Posted July 22, 2002 >so Penn and Teller would be lumped together with prop comedians like Gallahger, Amazing Johnaton, Carrot Top? sound reasonable No, as they're magicians whose gimmick is that they throw in some humour and expose the business. IIRC when those "Magic Secrets Revealed" special came out most people thought it was Penn doing all the tricks... Oh, one other thing, where's Stephen Wright?
Guest bob_barron Posted July 22, 2002 Report Posted July 22, 2002 No Jerry Seinfeld (God #2) or Norm Macdonald (God #1)- BLASPHEMY!
Guest NaturalBornThriller4:20 Posted July 22, 2002 Report Posted July 22, 2002 Bernie-Motherfucking-Mac!
Guest M Nyland Posted July 22, 2002 Report Posted July 22, 2002 Dane Cook was pretty funny "I want the acidy spit! I want that!" "Mustard all over my body........pickles...pickles..." God that was great....especially since I work in fast food
Guest ant_7000 Posted July 22, 2002 Report Posted July 22, 2002 Pryor is my choice he made vulgar comedy popular, I haven't heard enough of Carlin's stuff to rate, and I don't think Chris Rock is all that funny to me. My current favs Chris Tucker especially when he was on Def Jam, why Martin Lawerence wasn't on the list because "You So Crazy" was classic and looking forward to see his new stand up movie. I like Kennison too, he sounds drunk and crazy he was funny. Cho is alright as well.
Guest redbaron51 Posted July 22, 2002 Report Posted July 22, 2002 Carlin... and yes...why no Jerry Seinfeld, hate the show, love the stand up
Guest CoreyLazarus416 Posted July 22, 2002 Report Posted July 22, 2002 Why no Lewis Black? Eddie Izzard? I voted for Carlin, by the way. Funny motherfucker...
Guest converge241 Posted July 22, 2002 Report Posted July 22, 2002 carlin, hands down id like to throw Rober Schimmel in there too though
