Guest godthedog Report post Posted July 24, 2002 ugh... over 50 posts, not one mention of bill hicks. brian regan, bernie mac, the amazing jonathan, jerry seinfeld, and ESPECIALLY denis leary (who ripped off about a third of his material from him) suck bill hicks's comedic cock. he was smart, wonderfully obscene and always pissed off. i've never heard anyone else who could make me laugh so hard AND think so much. my personal favorite of all time. others overlooked: lenny bruce (only mentioned twice, probably the most influential comic of the latter half of the 20th century), woody allen (duh). Guest Kid Kablam Report post Posted July 24, 2002 Anybody here heard Sarah Silverman? She's absolutely hilarious. Let's see, I think my favorites would have to be her annnnnnnnd either George Carlin or Dennis Leary. Also Brian Regan cracks me up.
Guest AlwaysPissedOff Report post Posted July 24, 2002 George Carlin is just awesome. That bit about the AIDS/Gulf War/Child Abuse ribbons still brings me to tears laughing. "Well, I got a brown ribbon and it stands for 'Eat shit, motherfucker!!!!'"

Guest MarvinisaLunatic Report post Posted July 24, 2002 I'll go with Carlin. BUT!!! Jim Carrey's short career in Standup comedy was pretty funny. I have a tape, and he's funny. He just didn't do enough. I guess thats a good thing..
Guest Ripper Report post Posted July 25, 2002 I never get how Lenny Bruce gets all types of props when he basically was ripping off alot of Redd Foxx's stuff that he was doing in the 40's. Compare a Redd Foxx record from the 40's-60's and listen to Bruce...he was ripping him OFF!!!
Guest Gamengiri2002 Report post Posted July 29, 2002 Apparently, I have been asleep for a few weeks and this thread slipped by me, but being a comedian mark, I feel I must reply. George Carlin is, easily, and without fail, the best comic of the 20th century AND I would say the most ground-breaking second to Samuel Clemens (Mark Twain) who pretty much started American Stand Up Comedy and giving him the default win in that category. But George Carlin and Mark Twain, they are on equal levels of greatness. That says a lot about a person who tells jokes for a living. And to post my Carlin mark credentials, I own all his cd's, tapes, and books and actually had 2 two shirts made by an airbrush artist dealing with George Carlin material. (George Carlin's Three Commandments from Complaints & Greivances [this caused quite the uproar at school] and a 'Bother the Weak' shirt because that line floored me when I read it, I dunno, it must have been the timing) Aside from good ole' George, I can't claim to be a fan of a particular comedian. Richard Pryor, Lenny Bruce, Bill Cosby, Sam Kinison are all in the same area of ingenuity for me. Seinfeld is all right. Izzard is great but I have heard little from him. Steven Wright and Mitch Hedberg for their one liners and respective deliveries. most other guys prove to be ultimately hit and miss. And I don't like Denis Leary (mainly BECAUSE i like carlin, Leary is like Carlin-lite) I know what you're saying, where's the love for female comedians. Well... there is none. And it's not a gender thing either, just the way it is I guess.
Guest oldschoolwrestling Report post Posted July 29, 2002 My favorites are Richard Pryor, Eddie Murphy, Redd Foxx, Andrew Dice Clay, Stephen Wright, George Carlin and Sam Kinneson. I saw Bill Cosby and Howie Mandel live, both are funny but not the best.
