WWF WrestleMania VII

-Announcers:Gorrilla Monsoon and Bobby Heenan

March 27,1991:From Los Angeles Sports Arena, Los Anglees California

 

-If it wasn't for bomb threat it could have been the biggest WrestleMania ever.

 

-Well anyways welcome to the 2nd rant for RanstleMania 2001!!!

 

-Willie Nelson sings America The Beatiful.

 

-Hacksaw Jim Duggan comes out to do play by play with Gorrilla for the first match,and they talk about the Retirement Match and the WWF Title Match.

 

-Shawn Mooney with The Rockers,who are tag team specialist.

 

-Opening Match:The Rockers Vs. The Barbairian:We begin with Michaels and Haku,and a knee by Haku then a side headlock,and now a bearhug into the corner,but Michaels with a shoulderblock.The Rockers with a double under hook,and then a double slam,and a double Somewhat Sweet Chin Music on The Barbarian.Jannetty is in there with The Barbarian,and The Barbarian is pounding on Marty,but Jannetty comes back with a sun set flip, and a hurricanrana.He is punching him until Haku comes in,and he hits him with a few chops,and then a crazy double team slingshot clothsline.Haku is in,and he is beating on Jannetty,but The Barabarian comes in and he hits with a powerslam by The Barbarian,and a double choke on Jannetty.Marty is being pounded on,and he sends Marty into the corner,and two backbreakers by Haku,and The Barbarian comes in,and gets a two count.A bear hug by The Barbarian,and he has Jannetty trapped in the bearhug,and the crowd is behind The Rockers.Jannetty with a kick,but The Barbarian hits with a powerslam,but he misses a flying head BUTT.Haku and Michaels are in, and Michaels hits with a forearm,followed by punches on Haku,and a leap frog onto The Barbarian followed by a bunch of double teams,and Jannetty with a dropkick,followed by a flying boddy press by Michaels,and he gets the three count.Good match,***.

 

-Gene Okerlund with Regis Philbin,Marla Maples and Alex Trabeck,this was actually pretty good.

 

-Dino Bravo Vs. The Texas Tornado:Dino begins pounding on the Tornado before the match,and he is just destroying him,but Tornaado comes back with an atmic drop,a clothsline and he gets the clwa.DIno with a knee to the face,and then a couple of elbows,and a two count,and then a side supeplex by Dino,and he gets a two count.Dino has the momentum,until the Tornado catches him with the claw followed by the Spinning Tornado for the three.That was nothing.1/2*.

 

-Shawn Mooney with the Warlord and "The Doctor of Style"Slick,brother.

 

-Gene Okerund with the British Bulldog and Winston.

 

-The British Bulldog Vs. The Warlord:They lock up,and The Warlord sends Davey Boy to the corner,and an elbow by the Bulldog,and the Bulldog answers with a body block.The Warlord takes the momentum back,and he hits with about five elbows.A bearhug by The Warlord,and the Bulldog fights back,but The Warlord hits with a stun hun,and then he gets a two count.The Bulldog gets a belly to belly gut rench supeplexx,and then a chinlock by The Warlord.The Bulldog comes back with head butts,and then a high crossbody,a kick to the head,but he misses a piledriver,and they both get near falls.Teh Warlord nails The Bulldog in the head,followed by the Full-Nulson!!!HE holds this on for a while,but the finers are not locked in,and The Bulldog breaks it,and he hits him with a Running Powerslam,and it's over,not bad.*1/2.

 

-Gene Okerlund with the Nasty Boys and Jimmy hart,

 

-Shawn Mooney with the Hart Foundation.

 

-WWF Tag Team Title Match:The Hart Foundation(champions) Vs. The Nasty Boys(challangers):They announce the Nasty Boys are from Allentown,Pennsylvania,which is right near where my sister goes to school. Bret and Saggs begin,and they lock up,and a cheap shot by Saggs,and he is beating on Bret.Bret answers with a press,and punches,and Knobbs gets knocked out of the ring,and Saggs gets thrown back in,and Bret kicks Saggs in the sternum,and Knobbs is in,and so is The Anvil.Knobbs nails The Anvil,but Teh Anvil comes back,and he is cleaning house.The Anvil with a spinning arm ring,butKnobbs comes back,and tags in Saggs, but The Anvil answers,and Bret is in,and is working on the arm,and he connects with ten punches,and a neckbreaker,elbow from the middle rope,and Knobbs jumps in,and has to pay for it,but Saggs hit Bret with a clothsline,and Bret goes out of the ring.Saggs is pounding on Bret,and he gets a back break,and a two count.The Nasty Boys are working on Bret's back,and Bret comes back,but Saggs fights back,and tags in Knobbs,and back to teh back.Everytime it looks like Bret is fighting back the Nasty Boys fight back,and Saggs is in,and again back on the back.Bret with a neckbreaker,and Bret was going for the tag until Knobbs nails The Anvil,and now Knobbs is working on the back,and Bret comes back,and the Nasties miss a splash in the corner,and Bret makes the tag,but the ref didn't see it,Knobbs hit Saggs with the megaphone by accident,and The Anvil is in,and he is cleaning house.He slams Kobbs,and only gets a two count,The Nasties bump into each other,the Heartattack,and Saggs nails The Anvil with the magaphone,and Kobbs gets three,New Champions!!!Decent Match.**1/4.

 

-They show lead up to the Martel/Roberts Blindfold Match.

 

-Am interview by Jake "The Snake" Roberts.

 

-Blindfold Mathch:"The Model"Rick Martel Vs. Jake"The Drunk"Roberts:We bign with the two just walking arond while the crowd screams,and evey time Jake point to The Model the crowd goes crazy.Jake found him,and they both do some crazy things,and then some comedy with Martel doing some idiotic moves,and Martel ran into the ropes.Martel with a supeplex,and then he misses with an elbow drop,and back to the point game.Martel grabs the ref,and Jake almost gets a hold onto Martel's leg.Jake gets a hold of him,but Martel gets to the ropes.Martel grabs the bag with Damien is in,and he gets really scared.Martel bumps into Jake,and he goes out onto the floor,and Martel find a chair,and he wacks the ring post,and Jake grabs him,but Martel with a backbreaker,and a Boston Crab,but Jake gets out.Jake with the ddt,and he gets the three count.That was horrible,possibly the worst match in WrestleMania history.-****.Jake braks the bottle of Arrogance after hte match,and attacks Martel with Damien.

 

-Coming in May it is Hot Ticket "WrestleMania's History and Heroes"!!!

 

-Marla maples with the Nasty Boys,Jimmy Hart,The Mountie,Earthquake and Dino Bravo.

 

-Jimmy Snuka Vs. The Undertaker:The Taker starts pounding on Jimy from the start,and is keep the momentum on.A flying clothsline by The Undertaker,and a chokehold by The Undertaker,followed by a boot,and a supeplex to the outside.A superplex by The Undertaker,Superfly with puches that don't fase The Undertaker,and The Undertaker catches him,and a Tombstone Piledriver,and it's over,DUD,that was nothing.

 

-They show what lead to the Ultimate Warrior/Randy Savage Career Ending Match/

 

-Career Ending Match:The Ultimate Warrior Vs."The Macho King"Randy Savage:Before the match The Brain points out that Miss Elizabeth is in the crowd.The Warrior casually walks dwon to the ring,instead of his usual 50 yard dash down to ringside.The Warrior is wearing the craziest out I have ever seen in my life!!!They tie up, and then they go eye to eye,and Warrior nails Savage,but Savage answers,and is working on the Warrior,but not for long.Warrior comes back,and he is beating the daylights out of Savage.The crowd is going wild as the Warrior is pounding on Savage.Savage kicks Warrior followed by a clothsline,but he gets caught coming off the top rope,and Savage is regrouping.He hits the Warrior from behinnd,and The Warrior answer by pounding Savage.Punches and,and more punches,and more punches,and the Warrior goes after Savage,and hit the turnbuckle,and goes out of the ring,and Sherri is pounding on The Warrior.The Warrior is back in,and Savage gets a two count,and a clothsline by The Warrior,but he misses a shoulderblock,and Savage gets a two count.A sleeperhold by Savage,and Sherri is cheering on Savage big time,but the Warrior comes back,and a double clothsline,and both men are down.They both get up,and the Warrior gets a small package,but Sherri distracts the ref,and The Warrior hits the ref by accident,and Sherri hits Savage by accident.Savage gets up,and gets a two count,and the Warrior gets thrown into the turnbuckle,and is being pounded by Savage.Elizabeth looks on,and is worried about The Macho king,but he is dominating Savage,but he can't get the three,an elbow drop,another one, another one,another one,and another one.A pin,but the Warrior kicks out at two.The Warrior is shaking the ropes,and he is starting to fight back,a clothsline,another one,anther one,the Power Press Slam,a pin,but Savage kicks out at two!!!The Warrior starts talking to his hand,and he is aking God if he has it anymore,and he starts leaving.Savage nails the Warrior,and put Warrior's neck on the barricade,and he jumps from the top rope,but he misses,and the Warrior throws Savage back into the ring.A shoulderblock,and Savage rolls out of the ring,and he does it again,and again he rolls out of the ring,and the Warrior gets the 1-2-3!!!The Warrior wins in what was his best match ever.****1/4.He celebrates after the match for a little while.Once he leaves Sherri starts kicking Savage,and Elizabeth hops the barricade,and throws Sherri out of the ring.They see each other,and Savage can't believe it is Elizabeth,and the ref tells Savage it was Sherri who was kicking him.Sacage and Elizabeth hug!!!This was one of the most touching moments in WWF history,and people in the crowd are crying as these two are celebrating in the ring!!!A great match,and an even better after match(well for historical purposes)!!!

 

-Gene Okerlund start yabling on about the NFL and instant replay,which leads us too......

 

-Vince McMahon,Paul McGuire and George Steinbrenner who start arguing over instant replay,and The Bushwhackers add some comedy.

 

-Gorrilla and The Brain talk about what happened in the Retirement Match.

 

-5 Minute Intermission.

 

-Gorrilla and The Brain talk about the Intercontinetal and WWF Title mathces.

 

-Regis Phiblin with The Undertaker and Paul Bearer,this was pretty funny as The Undertaker measured Regis.

 

-Alex Trabek with Demoltion and that is Master Fuji.(who has all the answers)

 

-Regis with Tenryu and Kitao,and this is even more funny than The Undertaker,and all Tenryu and Kitao can say is oh,oh Kathy Lee,haha.

 

-Demolition Vs. Tenryu and Kitao:Demolition start pounding on Kitao,Crush and Kitao start,and Smash and Fuji interefere,and Smash comes in.He gets a supeplex,and Demolition with a double team,and Crush is in.He hits a bodyslam,and tags in Smash who is keeping the pressure on,and Crush comes in,and is working on Kitao,and smash and Tenryu comes in,and Smash with a clothsline,and Crush comes in,and gets gets a backbreaker,and Smash comes in.All four are in,and Kitao pushses Crush off the top rope,and Tenryuwith a powerbomb,and they get the 3.*1/2,not bad.

 

-Gene Okerlund with the Big Bossman.

 

-Shawn(shut up)Mooney with Mr.Perfect and Bobby Heenan.

 

-Intercontinental Title Match:The Big Bossman(challanger)Vs. Mr.Perfect(champion):They go eye to eye,and do some taunting before the match.Bosssman nails Perfect followed by an airplane spin.Bossman with a boot,and a clothsline,and Perfect goes flying out of the ring.Bossman hits his arm on the turnbuckle,and Perfect has the momentum,but not for long as the Bossman comes back.Perfect has the Bossman's belt,and he is pounding the Bossman with it.Now they are exchaning fist,but Perfect takes the momentum back,and Perfect with an abdominial stretch which he holds on for a while,but lets go,and gets a dropkick,and then a few more punches. He goes for the Perfectplex,ubt the Bossman answers with a small package,and he gets a two count.Perfect goes up top,but the Bossman catches him with a boot.The Bossman has take over,and is dominating Perfect.A bunch of punches,and Perfect is out of there,but Perfect nails the Bossman who hits the steel steps,and it's Andre The Giant!!!Perfect is keeping the momentum on,and Andre has the Intercontinetal Title,and he nails Perfect with it,and both men are down.The Bossman sits up first,and pins Perfect,but he only gets a two count, and the Barbarian and Haku interefere,but the Bossman and Andre clean house,and the Bossman wins by DQ,and he celebrates with Andre after the match.3/4*,not that great,but still pretty decent.

 

-Gene Okerlund with Donald Trump,Chuch Norris,the Fonz and Lou Ferringo.

 

-Earthquake Vs. Greg Valentine:They lokc up,and Earthquake starts pounding Valentine in the corner followed by a body slam,Valentine starts pounding on Earthquake,and he gets him down on one knee,and finally knocks him down,and tries the figure four,but he can't get it because Jimmy Hart was distracting him,and Earthquake nails him from behind,and I can feel the trimmers,the splash,and it's over.Whatever1/4*.

Shawn Mooney with the Legion of Doom.

 

-Legion of Doom Vs. Power and Glory:Power and Glory nail them from behind,but Hawk with a double clothsline.Animal bodyslams Roma followed by a Doomsday Device for the win!!!That lasted 30 seconds,DUD.

 

-Coming in May WWF Hot Ticket,"WrestleMania's History and Heroes"!!!

 

-Virgil/Dibiase video package.

 

-Virgil Vs. Ted Dibiase:Dibiase comes out followed by Piper on crutches due to a motorcylce accident,and Piper yells Virgil,it's time to fight!!!Virgil comes out,and we are under way,Virgil with a bunch of jabs,and Dibiase goes down,and a big right fist,and Diabiase goes down,and out of the ring.Back to the jabs,and again Dibiase is out of there.Back in,and Virgil clothslines him out the ring,and he sends him back in,and Virgil gets a two count, and Dibiase rols out of there.Back in,and he puts together a bunch of combinations,but Dibiase comes back,and he is pounding on Virgil.Dibaise is now taunting Piper,and Dibiase hits with a piledriver followed by a supeplex, and he gets a two count.A gutwrench supeplex,and Virgil gets throw out of the ring near where Piper is sitting. Dibiase knocks down Piper,back in,and Dibiase is keeping the momentum on,and Piper pulls the crutch over the rope,ad Dibaise goes over,and starts pounding on Piper,and Dibise gets counted out.Dibaise with the Million Dollar Dream on Virgil,but Piper hits him with the crutch,but Sherri comes down,and Dibiase and Sherri pound on Piper's knee.Virgil finally gets the crutch and Piper gets,and he throws the crutch,and it hits the ref in the nuts.Virgil tells Piper to get up,get up,and Piper,and Virgil hug once Piper gets up.A tad bit disappointing.1/4*

 

-They show Slaughter burning the Hulk Hogan t-shirt.

 

-Shawn Mooney with General Adnan and Sgt.Slaughter,Adnan says huballahey,labunehay,ect...and Slaughter talks about his rules,and they show Slaughter pounding Duggan and Hogan from the Main Event.

 

-The Mountie Vs. Tito Santana:Alright,stars and stripes WrestleMania,one man is from Canada and the other from Mexico.They lock up,and Tito with a headlock,and a forearm,and the Mountie is out of there,but Tito bring him back in.Tito is keeping the mometum on until the Mountie nails him with the caddleprod,and it's over.DUD.

 

-Gene Okerlund with Hulk Hogan.They also show Slaughter and Adnan pounding on Slaughter a week before WrestleMania.Dang the Hulkster was built at this time.

 

-The Fink announces:Alex Trabek,Marla Maples and Regis Philbin.Regis is getting all excited over Marla,you can tell this by his big grin.

 

-Main Event:WWF Title Match:Sgt.Slaugter(champion)Vs. Hulk Hogan(challenger):The crowd goes crazy over Hogan,and Regis mention some about him,and Marla Maples(told ya).Hogan starts chasing Slaughter around,and they go eye while Slaughter is taunting him.They lock up,and go from corner to corner,and they keep doing this, and Hogan pushes Slaughter off.They lock up again,and Hogan with a side headlock,and Hogan with a shouldeblock,and Slaughter goes down.They are on the outside,and Hogan is making sure he gets back inside, and a poke in the eye works everb time,and Slaughter has the momentum back,and he is pounding on Hogan. Hogan gets up,and he is pounding on Slaughter,and he gets a two count.The Hulkerster with an elbow followed by a two count,and he is keeping the pressure on.Hogan is pulling out all the stops,and he is doing something I have never seen Hogan do before.Hogan gets another two count,and a bodyslam,two elbow drops,and he is going up,but Slaughter slams him down,and takes the big mo back.Slaughter is pounding Hogan with a stell chair,and he is choking Hogan with a TV cable.They are back in the ring,and Slaughter is pounding on Hogan. Slaughter gets a two count,and the crowd with a Hogan chant.Slaughter with a boston crab,Hogan is right next to the ropes,and he finally reaches the rope after 5 minutes.Slaughter is pounding on Hogan's back,and in an odd moment Slaughter is pinning Hogan while Adnan is distracting the ref,and he gets a two count,and Slaughter nails him with a chair,and the Cammel Clutch by Slaughter ,and Hogan is trying to fight out of it.Hogan gets up, but Slaughter rams him into the corner,and Slaughter puts the Iraqi flag on Hogan,and he only gets a two count, and Hogan Hulks up,and rips the flag.3 punches,Big Boot,Leg Drop,and he gets the pin,and we have a new champion!!!He celebrates while the crowd goes crazy!!!Put it all to rest,the war is officially over!!!The match was not that great,but so important at the time,**.

 

Bottom Line:Well this was a great event with the unbelievable Retirement Match,and the crowd was going crazy when Hogan won the title,which was pretty cool.

You know, during that "Instant Replay" Controversy was my favorite Vince McMahon quote of all time... George Steinbrenner makes the suggestion that any replay official that takes more than a minute to make a call should be fired, on the spot! Then, the camera cuts back to Vince, and he says... "Wait a minute George, what do you mean fire him? Like, from his job!?" No Vince, he meant literally set him on fire... anyway, Vince's look is priceless!

I have to take issue with the rating of the Bossman-Hennig match. I had it at ***, IIRC. I guess I just liked it a lot better than you did, though.
