Guest LesnarLunatic Report post Posted July 23, 2002 After a huge streak.. the KC Royals are now knocking on the door of Second place. After the ChiSox lose some more against the Twins and we beat the Tigers, KC should be in Second place. and from there.. uh... wildcard race.. I guess.. Maybe we can just say "We'll do better next year" and mean it. But, with KC's success. Baseball just has to strike. Damn Players. It happened the last time KC had a good season. Guest alkeiper Report post Posted July 23, 2002 Only in Kansas City can a .439 winning percentage be considered a success.

Guest Choken One Report post Posted July 24, 2002 Kansas City may have a little history but it's one of those 6 teams I'D seriously target for Contraction if I had the ability to do such. They seem to be a breeding ground of sorts...Young talent are drafted and dealt three years later and become name players for winning teams. K.C needs to gut it's management and start over. I agree...Any team under .500 CAN'T be a success story...esp when most your wins are against Cleveland, Detroit and Chisox.
Guest The Man in Blak Report post Posted July 24, 2002 All I'll say is that naming Tony Pena as the new manager is probably one of the only smart things this franchise has done over the last five years, save acquiring Paul Byrd.
Guest MarvinisaLunatic Report post Posted July 24, 2002 The Orioles are in third place too. Too bad they have zilch shot at anything but third place. Hopefully they might finish above .500, but I doubt it..
Guest meanmaisch Report post Posted July 25, 2002 Byrd will be gone by the end of the trading deadline. I wish the Phils still had him, considering how well he's doing.
Guest alkeiper Report post Posted July 25, 2002 Wow, took me a while to remeber who the Phils got in return, Jose Santiago. I wouldn't regret that trade. Paul Byrd had a bum shoulder and next year the Phils will have Myers, Padilla, Duckworth and Wolf in any case.
Guest lomasmoney Report post Posted July 26, 2002 Yay. My beloved Tigers are the worst team in baseball.........again. At least I still have the Reds
Guest meanmaisch Report post Posted July 26, 2002 Santiago was ok his first year with Phils, but has gotten too inconsistent. Wolf and Duckworth are the same way. The Phils only have Padilla and Travis Lee from the Schilling trade. Daal was traded, as was Figueroa. Lee has been a total waste, so Padilla is the only good thing out of that trade. Sigh, the life of a Phillies fan...
Guest Powerplay Report post Posted July 26, 2002 I actually went to the Royals-Tigers game at Comerica Park today, and hey, it was actually pretty good throughout. There was good play, and it was close throughout. And watching Fick hit the home run and seeing it shoot across and hoping it has the distance.... it was great. It made me enjoy baseball again, if only for one game. Baseball is so much better to watch live than to watch on T.V.
Guest The Man in Blak Report post Posted July 26, 2002 Yeah, baseball is definitely a sport that you want to catch live if you have any fraction of interest. However, I'm not sure you would have gotten the same lovey-dovey feelings had you attended that same Tigers-Royals game at Kauffman Stadium...which is essentially physical evidence that God can vomit concrete. Guest LesnarLunatic Report post Posted July 26, 2002 Paul Byrd being traded out of KC would be an idiotic move to make. Byrd has his own cheering section. Byrd and his wife enjoy living in Kansas City. If that jackass David Glass (with his buddy Allard Baird) trades Byrd, it'd just be a stupidstupid move. Byrd even says that if he is traded, he will try to come back to KC next year as a FA

Byrd even says that if he is traded, he will try to come back to KC next year as a FA Au contraire. If Byrd says that he'd try to come back to KC as a free agent next year even if he does get traded, then why not ship him off to grab some talent and then just pick up him at the end of the offseason? Of course, I'm being facetious...but, honestly, how often do you see player loyalty in baseball?
Guest LesnarLunatic Report post Posted July 26, 2002 One good reason not to ship him out is the reason that he's gonna get alot of wins this year. Only a really good deal would be acceptable for Byrd.
Guest meanmaisch Report post Posted July 26, 2002 But what does it matter if Byrd wins a lot of games when the rest of the Royals staff isn't winning? Byrd should be given the opportunity to win where it will mean something. I'm sure a team like St. Louis or San Francisco would like to have him on their staffs. Sigh, the life of a Phillies fan... Duckworth is going through the inevitable ups and downs of a young pitcher. His Strikeout rate is excellent, and there's no reason he shouldn't develop into a good pitcher. Same with Randy Wolf. In fact, both of them pitched extremely well their last times out. As for the Schilling trade, Schilling was a free agent. They might as well have gotten something back, and Padilla is more than enough. Daal almost pitched the Phillies into the playoffs, and he brought Eric Junge back from the Dodgers. With Marlon Byrd waiting to be unleashed, I honestly think the Phils have a shot at the playoffs in 2003. As for Paul Byrd, I'd say trade him, but Baird has a terrible record in trades, getting Roberto Hernandez for Johnny Damon and Neifi Perz for Jermaine Dye. Still, he's 31, a pending free agent, and has a history of injuries. If Houston were to offer say, Tim Redding and Jason Lane, you'd be stupid not to take it. Guest meanmaisch Report post Posted July 27, 2002 I don't see the Phils making it to the playoffs next year. They have hit another quasi-rebuilding stage, as they have to make up for the losses of Person, Glanville, and Rolen. Also, the Phillies owners are only interested in making a small profit and thus have no interest in actually making the team a contender. TH
Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted July 27, 2002 There was a rumored Byrd to the Braves for Marcus Giles, but apparently the Royals wanted to much for Byrd. That's the problem with alot of teams interested in trading players, they want too much in return and this year particular, teams aren't willing to do it
Guest alkeiper Report post Posted July 27, 2002 they have to make up for the losses of Person, Glanville, and Rolen Make up for the loss of Glanville? Marlon Byrd is a better player than Glanville RIGHT NOW. And he's $5 million cheaper to boot. The only loss they have to deal with is Rolen, and if Philly offers him a ten year deal again, he'll be back. You don't turn down a 10 year deal, and no one else will offer him 5. Guest meanmaisch Report post Posted July 27, 2002 I don't think the Phillies and Scott Rolen want anything to do with one another anymore. Its clear that he wants out, as he has been extolling the virtues of each city he visits. He just doesn't want to be there anymore and I don't think the fans want him there either. They do need another starting pitcher, but the chances of them actually spending money on a quality free agent pitcher aren't good. The Phillies are notorius for giving expensive deals to worthless players like Gregg Jeffries, Chad Ogea, and this year's mistake, Terry Adams.
