Guest dreamer420 Report post Posted July 23, 2002 The news that Shane Douglas is now XPW champion came as quite a shock to me yesterday. Out of morbid curiousity I was checking the KOTDM tournament results and seen that Douglas was now their champion. Is it just me or did this come as a pretty big surprise to anyone? I knew that Douglas was getting older and from the looks of his last run in the old WCW he was pretty washed up. I try not to follow XPW but does anyone know where they are going to go with him as champion?
Guest swan Report post Posted July 23, 2002 I try not to follow XPW but does anyone know where they are going to go with him as champion? Yeah, to the former ECW "Arena" in Philly. I could see him doing something along the lines he threw down the NWA belt and renamed ECW "Extreme". To see how he is used would be worth getting a comp ticket. Guest Army Eye Report post Posted July 23, 2002 I don't think he looked washed up in WCW, although it was kind of awkward that they had him playing the 'franchise' character but not be able to swear at all.

Guest nl5xsk1 Report post Posted July 23, 2002 As a recovering Douglas-mark, I'll be pretty pissed if he goes to the Bingo Hall and rants and raves (or for lack of a better word "shoots") against ECW. It's the place where he became famous, and if it weren't for ECW he wouldn't be famous enough to be there. I can see why he might go off on ECW, as he knows that there's no chance for him in WWE or NWA-TNA, so trying to get over in XPW is one of his only chances, but why piss away the limited legacy that he's earned? Actually, NWA had offered him a spot on the roster, but due to some real life heat with Francine, he declined.
Guest Human Fly Report post Posted July 24, 2002 As was talked about in the other thread, if Douglas comes out and starts anti-ECW stuff you could be looking at some crazy stuff going down. At the very least the ring will be filled with crap like when Hogan turned heel in '96. I'm really looking forward to this, there should be some interesting things going down that night (crazy Philly fans rioting). Every now and then you hear about wrestlers talking about getting attacked in Mexico because they have so much heel heat, this could turn out to be a stiuation like that. I hope security has lots of pepper spray and tazers handy.

Actually, NWA had offered him a spot on the roster, but due to some real life heat with Francine, he declined. I knew that it was heat between him and Francine that was keeping him out of NWA-TNA, but I didn't know that they offered him a spot and he turned it down, I thought that they didn't even offer him one. Wouldn't an actual wrestler be more valuable to the NWA than a barely-attractive valet? (And I think I'm being overly kind to both when I call him an actual wrestler still, and her barely-attractive.) I mean, shouldn't the Jarretts have fired her and signed him, if it had to be one or the other?
Guest Nezbyte Report post Posted July 25, 2002 "If you have Francine you cannot have the FRAAAAAAAAAANCHISE!" - Shane Douglas, moments before hanging up on JJ Sr.

Shane's definetly not what he used to be since he's so racked with injuries, but I still find the guy entertaining. And Francine is no supermodel, but I wouldn't kick her out of my bed
Guest nl5xsk1 Report post Posted July 25, 2002 Zack, it's good to talk with another Douglas-mark ... even with the injuries, he could be a good mid-to-upper-card heel in the NWA-TNA. He can talk as well as anyone else in that federation and has no problem being an un-cool heel (meaning he doesn't want the pops that HHH and Nash always seem to be looking for even though they're supposed to be heels). While I wouldn't want to see him as NWA champ, I could see him playing a good heel role and then seguing into being a manager or announcer while booking behind the scenes. But I guess Francine getting felt up is more valuable to the Jarretts.
Guest Steviekick Report post Posted July 25, 2002 hahahahha...wow! Two more Shane Douglas marks...there is nothing that man can't do!
Guest Bloodice Report post Posted July 27, 2002 It wasn't a big surprise to me that he was there because shane had been rumored to be taking over as the head writer in xpw which apparently he'll be doing. And I like the fact that xpw will be more east coast bound. I just got baptized in blood II and follow xpw as tightly as i can and love the fact of them back in the old ecw arena. Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted July 27, 2002 I read in the Borash column today that talks between TNA and Douglas have resumed. I'm torn...as he is broken down...but I too...am a Douglas mark.
Guest Bloodice Report post Posted July 27, 2002 NWA? I knew there were talks a while back but i thought he took over as the head writer for xpw?
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted July 27, 2002 I can't see why he couldn't do both. TNA is a one day a week job.
Guest Bloodice Report post Posted July 27, 2002 i think the reason being is 1)his being the head writer of xpw 2)xpw not wanting him to go to a company that could score a tv deal and demand more of his time
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted July 27, 2002 I'm just telling you what I read. Douglas is in negotiations with TNA again. As of now it would only be a one day a week deal...so him going there wouldn't interfere with whatever else he had going on. And if it did...TNA is open door...so if you have a scheduling conflict...they don't book you.
Guest Bloodice Report post Posted July 27, 2002 i'm not doubting what you said or what you read if thats what you're thinking just voicing my thoughts on it
Guest Zack Malibu Report post Posted July 27, 2002 I don't hate on XPW as much as some people (I don't endorse Rob Black's actions one bit, but I do check out the tapes for a wrestling alternative), but I would rather see Douglas head over to NWA. NWA is a lot closer to a mainstream breakthrough, and as a Douglas mark, I'd like one more possible "big run" from him. And this time around, I don't think Scott Hall will refuse to job to him
Guest Bloodice Report post Posted July 28, 2002 I'd like to see him in the nwa but with him as the head writer of xpw I really like the fact that he'll be adding a lot more wrestling into it. They do have some good talent but they're more hardcore which is great to see. I'm glad that douglas is back in the xpw. I think he makes a good fit.
