Guest Sandman9000 Report post Posted July 24, 2002 a PS2? a GameToaster, er, GameCube? or a modded PS1? The reason I am asking this question, is that before we went off to (separate) colleges, my friend asked if I wanted to buy anything off him, and I expressed interest in his modded PS1. Now, if the system was not modded, I wouldn't even think twice about it. However, the idea of free games (I know, I know, illegal) is very tempting to me. What turns me off is the idea of investing any money into a system that is on life support, if it has not flatlined already. Sure, there still are quite a few PS1 games on the shelf at Blockbuster, but the numbers are dropping. Add this into the fact that I don't even know if there is a Blockbuster near my campus. However, there has to be some kinda video rental store near the campus, so that isn't too big a deal. With the PS2 and GC, I know what I am getting myself into the next few years. I am making a several-year investment, instead of what could possibly be a year or less investment for the PS1. Not only that, I know what I am going to pay for the first two systems, versus the idea that I don't know what my friend is going to charge me for the PS1. I'd like to go 20, but I got a feeling 30 or even 40 is more likely. So, oh great ones, tell me, which is the better investment? Actually, I should throw this in. If I change my mind on the modded PS1, I will wait and see what people have in their dorms before buying a system. Maybe I should have made a poll...
Guest The Man in Blak Report post Posted July 24, 2002 I'd personally say grab the PS2, for the DVD capabilities, the PS1 backwards compatibility, and just for the general goodness that is the PS2 library right now. The modded-PS1 deal is not all shits and giggles - tracking down self-booting ISOs for your desired games may end up being more trouble than its worth. Guest Sandman9000 Report post Posted July 24, 2002 That's what I was thinking as well, PS2. I guess I won't be needing this now. ::Puts Blockbuster card away:: However, if people in my dorm already have PS2's, then I will prob invest in a GameToaster and couple extra controllers, just because. Nothing beats 4 player. Don't know why PS2 didn't have 4 controller slots. Ain't no way an X-Box is going to be in my possession, though.
