What does anybody think about...

Recommended Posts

Guest Ironman

I've been thinking of changing myself into a pure shootfighter. I mean, it's different and no one in the whole fed fights this style, some just have a little background 'n such. I doubt anyone will mind a change from the norm.

Heh, next thing you know where well be a string of shooter newbs trying to follow my foot steps... yup.

I'll post the stats in a sec for a little bit of feedback and ideas. The only bad things I can see of this is the clash of shoot and wrestling but that can be part of the character and actually add to the product.

After my match with Mr. ??? I'm going to give it a shot. (Don't worry about changing your match, Mr. ???. Use the current stats.)

STATS – Tony “The Ironman” Brogan

Smarks Board Name: Ironman

Fighter’s Name: Tony Brogan

Alias: The Ironman

Height: 5’11’’

Weight: 221 lbs.

Hometown: Detroit, Michigan

Age: Unknown (Late 20s – Early 30s)

Face/Heel: Badass Face (Pops for brutality and has a babyface appeal)

Stable: None

Ring Escort: None

Weapon: None

Quote: “…because when you step into the ring with me, you’ve got two choices: Tap out or get KNOCKED OUT!”

Looks: Kinda like this...

vanderlei.jpg

He’s has a very lean, muscular build. His head is shaved along with his beard. He wears pair of short, black tights with ‘IRONMAN’ in a silver design on the front. He wears gloves with pads on the knuckles but leaves the underside of his hands clear for grip and his fear are bare. Sometimes, Brogan commonly wears a “Tap Out Or Get KNOCKED OUT!” T-shirt on the way to the ring. Oh and don’t forget the mouthpiece. Protect that smile, baby.

Ring Entrance: The lights suddenly dim and focus on the stage as the trademark beat of a drum chills the blood of all who can hear it, sending a shiver up your spine.

“I AM IRONMAN!”

The words ring out into the arena, and then the metal hits as Black Sabbath’s “Ironman” blares over the speakers at full blast. Clenching his fists, Tony “The Ironman” Brogan heads out from behind the curtains onto the stage, ready to bust some heads and kick some ass.

<introduction>

Brogan hits the ring, looking focused as he steps over the second rope and gets ready.

Stats:

¯¯¯¯¯

Strength: 3 (Most of his strength comes from leverage)

Speed: 6 (Very quick to the punch and to takedowns)

Vitality: 7 (Can take one mean fucking beatdown but a finisher does it)

Charisma: 4 (Working on the mic skills but his sheer brutality in the ring is enough to carry him)

Style: Shootfighting (Mainly strikes with a few takedowns, throws and chokes)

Signature moves:

- The STARE~! (A pre-match stare that makes Brogan look like the badest motherfucker on the planet, as he peers into your soul. This cannot be no-sold, this will eat you ALIVE! ALL YOU CAN DO IS RUN AND HIDE! I’M COMING TO KILL YOUUU! AHHHHHHH HA HA HA!! …that kind of stare.)

- Signature Right Hook

- Muay Thai Kicks

- Side Belly-to-Belly Suplex (all leverage throw)

- Takedown to punches (AKA he sits on your chest and beats the shit out of you)

- Knees to the head

- Stomp to the face (no fucking joke here)

- Right and left crosses to the bridge of the nose from a rear body scissors

Common moves:

- Stiff rights and lefts

- Forearm to the face

- Headbutt to the face

- Elbow shots

- Single-leg Takedown

- Double-leg Takedown

- Hiptoss (the real throw)

- Crucifix Armbar

- Achilles’ Lock (can come from a roll, I.E. rolling leg lock style)

- Triangle Lock

Rare moves:

- German Suplex (all leverage throw, never forced, just used when the situation occurs)

- Guillotine Choke w/ scissors

Finisher:

- The Iron Maiden (Rear Naked Choke – no matter where it comes from in the match, it'll always end in a body scissors for more leverage and control)

Notes: He can be fucking brutal in the ring. He’ll beat the shit out of you until you, “Tap out or get knocked out,” to put it in his own words. He mainly sticks with punches, kicks, knees, and the like but can finish things off with a good choke. Never goes for a pin, always goes for the tap or TKO. No real “Pro Wrestling” basics at all (whips, slams, chain wrestling etc) and that is his weakness.

On the mic, he can talk a lot of trash, but will back it up 99% of the time. He’ll never back down from a fight, even if he’s hopelessly out numbered or out of his league. If he’s going down, he’s going down with all guns blazing. Or something…

Bio: Trained in Upper Michigan.

Interesting. I'm not sure how it'll work since most of us don't follow shootfighting, to the best of my knowledge--I don't, at least. I mean, I can point out a Gracie when I see one, but I think people might end up writing your wrestler's moveset as more typical than unique.

Could be worth a shot though. Veddy interesting.

I think this idea really has some potential. The biggest issue I see is this:

No real “Pro Wrestling” basics at all (whips, slams, chain wrestling etc) and that is his weakness.

No slams? OK, no big deal if your kicks are stiff as hell, which they will be. No chain wrestling? Not an issue if you have chain fighting and know how to reverse out of basic holds. No whips? Uh-Oh. How does he reverse an Irish Whip? I see his weakness as being a little limiting for the writers in the JL who don't understand actual shoot-fighting.

However... if done right, and since you are modifying a current character it shouldn't be an issue, this could be a good element to add into the SWF/JL mix.

I say give it a shot, and if it doesn't work, transition him into a Steve Blackman / Ken Shamrock wrestler with that legit shoot-fighting vibe.

Yes, what Marky Mark said. If it doesn't work out, then just take a break for a week, and come back saying you learned how to wrestle. :P

But if I were you, I'd take on the Ken Shamrock route, where he knows submissions, and can throw a basic suplex.

The shootfighting idea is very interesting, since that was the vibe I originally got when I first read your original stats. What I would suggest is somewhat in line with what TNT and Stevens said, i.e., a legit shooter with wrestling basics, but I'd take it a little bit farther than Blackman or Shamrock did. Your stats right now fit the character quite well, with the stiff German and the release Dragon suplexes. I'd leave the stats alone and just play up my chain-wrestling and submissions skills in the ring, using the suplexes and other wrestling moves you've already got to transition between offense and defense. That way, you've got a wrestling background for other JLers to fall back on if they need to while still maintaining the shooter character.

Just my two cents.

In Japan alot of the Juniors are actually trying staged shoot fighting. I think it sucks, but even they still use some of the wrestling basics.

It's different that's for damn sure. But I think you should try to incorporate some pro wrestling into it. Like how guys like Dean Malenko, Inoki, Vader, Takada......etc. managed to incorporate elements of shoot fighting and marital arts into their Pro Wrestling style. While you will be doing it the other way around and will be incorporating Pro Wrestling into Shoot Fighting style. I suggest you do that, to make it a bit easier for people writing for you.

I'll keep working on it. I could see how whips and such would be a problem so I'll hammer something out.

I really would like to see how most grapplers would react with him. I mean, you want to go for a scoop slam, but ge's trying to KO your ass. We'll see.

If anyone needs something to use as a refrense, you can go here. Look for Vanderlei Silva and Frank Shamrock.

Ironman, you should really check out UWF in Japan. It's a very realistic wrestling federation, that mixes wrestling with shoot fighting and boxing. They use moves like Powerbombs, German Suplexes, and scoop Slams, but in a very realistic way. No Irishwhips though, just stiff ass strikes and mat work with some wrestling moves mixed in.

The essential match of the federation is Vadar/Takada 8/18/94 ****1/2. I highly recommend it, as I steal the realistic Powerbomb spot in a few of my matches.

Ironman wants a shootfighter gimmick? Damn, I want to fight *him* now! Puroresu vs Shootfighting = Drawing Power, don't you know? <_<

Seriously though, Ironman, the gimmick can work since it has badass written all over it. It's also a different style than what is normally seen in the SWF/SJL, so it'll be an interesting read. And if you make your way in, I'll proudly get my face punched in by you in a match.

must... not... make... Nagata... joke....

Seriously, pure shootfighter probably wouldn't be engaging without some sort of chip on the shoulder. Have him trying to prove the supremacy of shootfighting and saying he could knock anyone out. It leads naturally into feuds with guys with over-the-top gimmicks and such. Gives the character some motivation.

If I might interject with my two cents.

If someone was facing you, would it have to be a shoot fight? Cause I know some characters wouldn't fair too well against you in a street fight. Take Fugue for example. He's a great wrestler, but he's pretty small and would get easily ownjed, but in an actual match he would probably beat the Ironman.

Or Thor. If he were to shoot fight, he would be a killer. He'd be locked in jail for crippling people. One punch and the competitions face would be destroyed.

If you want a more stripped down, bare knuckle, I'm-just-gonna-kick-your-ass fighting style, then that would be cool. But if everyone had to shoot against you... I smell Brawl For All...
