Guest AlwaysPissedOff Report post Posted July 24, 2002 Okay, I'm on a Compaq Presario and 2 days ago, the settings for the colors(16, 256, 16-bit true color) just went 16 for some reason. Okay, that was all fine and good, but when I changed the settings back to what they were before and rebooted the PC, they were still on 16. I ran Virus Scan and Scandisk to try and find the problem and while Scandisk found a few errors on Thorugh(sp?), I rebooted it again with the the setting I wanted and it STILL came up with only 16 colors. What the hell is wrong with this thing and is there ANY WAY I can fix this without having to send it to Compaq?
Guest MrRant Report post Posted July 24, 2002 Sounda like it could be the video card. Uninstall and reinstall the drivers.
Guest Razor Roman Report post Posted July 24, 2002 if you've only had it for 2 days it probably wouldn't be too heartbreaking for you if you had to use the Quick Restore CD(s) that came with the system. Try that, and then install your additional programs one at a time and keep checking the video settings to see if anything might be screwing it up.

Guest areacode212 Report post Posted July 24, 2002 Agh, I've seen this happen before, and it's always been a pain in the ass. I usually just reformat & reinstall Windows. Try this: run REGEDIT (Start-->Run-->regedit) and open up HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Config\0001\Display\Settings Change BitsPerPixel to 16. Now reboot and see what happens
Guest swan Report post Posted July 24, 2002 Honestly, stay away from the name brand computers. Either build one (not as hard as you think) or have a local shop build you one. You'll be surprised at how much more you would be able to get compared to a name brand. Learn to build one and it's so simple to upgrade in the future or as cash allows.
