Guest Just call me Dan Report post Posted July 24, 2002 Benoit (the heel) beat Booker T (the face) with absoutely no hokey offense asking for a DQ or any interference whatsoever. He made a guy of his equal position on the card that was a face tap in the middle of the ring! Now, heels winning clean has definetly been on the decline for quite some time, but my God , how long has it been since THAT happened?
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted July 24, 2002 I would say...Angle over Hogan at KOTR. Before that...I don't know
Guest Just call me Dan Report post Posted July 24, 2002 I really and truly already forgot about that one. It's just funny because when that happens I'm so shocked and that gives me more goosebumps than a Goldberg run in out of no where. If Shock TV meant clean wins, I'd be happy. Guest Human Fly Report post Posted July 24, 2002 There was the time when Jericho had HHH in the Walls and.....................................nevermind.
Guest Incandenza Report post Posted July 24, 2002 Until the WWE started pussing out slightly on his push, Brock won cleanly a number of times. The last non-jobber/B-show match I recall that featured a heel going over cleanly prior to KotR was Angle/Edge at Backlash.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted July 24, 2002 I keep thinking that Eddy beat RVD clean...but he there was a belt shot at Backlash, and he had his feet on the ropes at Judgment Day.
Guest Angle-plex Report post Posted July 24, 2002 Didn't Benoit use the exposed turnbuckle?
Guest Just call me Dan Report post Posted July 24, 2002 I'm not sure, but I don't think it was anywhere near the finish and is about as useless as slamming your opponents head into the ringpost or whipping them into a guard-rail.
Guest ShamRock Report post Posted July 24, 2002 Actually Benoit drop-toe holded Booker into the exposed turnbuckle and then hooked in the Crossface for the win.I wouldn't call that clean, but whatever.....
Guest Just call me Dan Report post Posted July 24, 2002 Christ I swear I'm blind! Thank you for pointing that out. I guess that negates most of all this discussion, so Angle-Plex and ShamRock are correct and Angle/Hogan was the last time. Still that is very cool and I wish it would happen every now and then rather than NEVER
Guest evenflowDDT Report post Posted July 25, 2002 Yea, technically he used the exposed turnbuckle so it wasn't spotless, but when you factor in that his "original intention" was to whip Booker T into it to work the ribs, and the finish was in kayfabe terms Benoit using his lightning fast ring resources to take advantage of the situation, I'd call that pretty clean. When I think of a "dirty" finish, I think of someone using a weapon or interference because they can't win on their own abilities. If, say, Eddie Guerrero had undone the turnbuckle covering and Benoit didn't even realize it, then I'd call it a dirty finish, but as it was, it was pretty clean, and showed BENOIT'S MAD RING PSYCHOLOGY SKILLZ!!!!
Guest Dangerous A Report post Posted July 25, 2002 "There was the time when Jericho had HHH in the Walls and.....................................nevermind." Actually ther was the time Jericho had every major superstar the last 8 months in the Walls of Jericho. And not a one of them tapped. Especially the big 3 HHH-check Rock-check Austin-check So there goes the credibility of that finisher. Unless your last name is Cena.
Guest HartFan86 Report post Posted July 25, 2002 It shows how bad the WWE's PPV product is when we don't even remember Angle making Hogan tap clean in the ring. I forgot about it too.
Guest TheArchiteck Report post Posted July 25, 2002 Well....you have to remember that Booker T came in with a visible injury.
Guest BobbyWhioux Report post Posted July 25, 2002 "Well there's a manly way to cheat." -- Larry Zybysko, after Schiavone called him on his cheating during his career in reaction to Larry Z bashing the NWo's tactics. There's two kinds of cheating; there's cheating on your own, and cheating with the help of others. And in the post-attitude era, I'm inclined to let cheating on your own be counted as part of "the new clean." Pulling the Tights, using the ropes, a foreign object, are now relatively "clean" victories because even though you cheated, you didn't "need help" to win. [unless someone handed you the chair...] So Benoit went over clean because he did it on his own. Or something.
Guest saturnmark4life Report post Posted July 25, 2002 yeah, if they tap or get pinned BY THE FINISHER after whatever, it's a clean finish.
Guest Brian Report post Posted July 26, 2002 I think that was awesome call to have Booker go in with his shoulder instead of his ribs because it totally set up the crossface.
