Castlevania Chronicles

I saw Castlevania Chronicles for sale at a Sam Goody the other day, and being a Castlevania fan I was naturally intrigued. Does anyone know what this is? The graphics looked very eight bit, which isn't necessarily a bad thing if it means that it's a compilation of the old NES games or something... Is it a combination of old Castlevanias, or a new game?

it has the orginal game from the NES and another old game that was never released in USA, I think.

There are a few mods to the game, like instant save state, and an arrangement mode, I think.

It's a combo, with both the original game and an updated version with jazzed-up graphics and sound. The weird part is that a lot of the levels are the same as in the first game, but with slight twists... just watch what happens when you try to get that first porkchop out of the wall! It's DAMN hard. Even I, who sit down and beat the first game for fun even today, had a lot of difficulty with it. Also, it seems like a lot of its ideas were later recycled in part III and in Bloodlines, which makes it feel a bit less fresh. But still, not bad for the Castlevania completist, certainly better than the shitty U.S. port of Dracula X was. Now if only they'd release Haunted Castle...

Yeah, pretty much what Jingus said.

Though it can't go without mention of it's price, which is supposed to be around $9.95, I think. The main idea was to have an old-school redux/tribute to the older NES-esque roots of Castlevania on the Playstation, where Symphony of the Night ran wild.

I haven't played it, but I like the fact that somebody isn't afraid to put out a game that doesn't feature cel-shaded graphics or brags about how many polygons it pushes.
