Octuple crown realignment

Recommended Posts

Guest LesnarLunatic

let's say, for fantasy purposes, the 8 titles that were in the Octuple clown are reuniting.

In the first tourney, we had this..

The Great Sasuke - I.W.G.P. Junior Heavyweight Champion

Masayoshi Motegi - N.W.A. World Junior Heavyweight Champion

Ultimo Dragon - International Junior Heavyweight Champion

Jushin Thunder Liger - British Commonwealth Junior Heavyweight Champion

El Samurai - W.W.F. World Light Heavyweight Champion

Shinjiro Ohtani -U.W.A. World Junior Light Heavyweight Champion

Gran Hamada - W.W.A. World Junior Light Heavyweight Champion

Negro Casas - N.W.A. World Welterweight Champion

-----

now, picking the 8 out of the current title holders.. we get..

Koji Kanemoto - IWGP Jr champ

Jimmy Rave - NWA Jr. Heavyweight champ

Masaaki Mochizuki - Int'l Jr. champ (well, he held in 1999)

SUWA - Brit. Commonwealth Jr. champ

Jamie Knoble - WWF Cruiserweight champion (the logical descendant of the WWF Lt. Heavyweight title)

Gran Hamada - UWA Jr. champ

Super Kendo - WWA Jr. champ

Genki Horiguchi - NWA Welter champ

obviously, not as good of a lineup as the first one.

Also, the WWE CW title and the WAR belt probably won't be in play for this.

Which eight belts would you put up for a revival? I'd go for IWGP, NWA Jr, Brit Commonwealth, UWA, WWA, NWA Welter, Osaka Pro and another belt.

It's all dreams and wishful thinking, right? :)

have Shocker or Dr Wagner take Negro Casas place

have AJ Styles or Jerry Lynn or Low Ki take Jimmy Rave's place.....X Division has more public appeal.

Actually, this wouldn't be entirely out of the realm of possibility.

Obviously, Knoble isn't going to be there, as the WWF/E/whatever wouldn't go for it. Replace that with the NWA International Jr. title, held by Milano Collection AT. Super Kendo isn't exactly a desirable commodity, so excise him and tack on Sasuke's NWA World Middleweight Title. If he doesn't play ball, go with the Osaka Pro title, though it is an Open Weight belt. Finally, with the WAR International Jr. title out, just add in a different sort of International Jr. title -- the one held by Ikuto Hidaka. It leaves you with a J*Crown dominated by solid Toryumon & MPro characters, with Kanemoto and Rave as the only outsiders and the least talented entrants. Of course, New Japan wouldn't go for the whole shooting match, as they'd have to be in control of it all. However, I'm betting that an AT/Hidaka semi, and maybe even Koji/Hidaka in the finals, would be pretty good.

It would be an interesting case, because unlike '96,only one NJ wrestler would be entered. I'm guessing they would want to have another event like the Sky Diving J beforehand to put all the titles on the right workers so that the tournment would have more NJ juniors involved, because you just know Liger would want to be involved somehow, and I would be willing to be he would want his boy Tanaka to be in the tourni, too. I think the biggest problem is that NJ has basically cut off both M Pro and Osaka Pro, so asking them to play ball now would be dificult. Plus, with Hamada working AJ tours all the time now, I'm not sure Liger would want him involved.

Actually, I'm suprised no one brought up the possibility of the GHC Jr. Title being used in a tourniment like this, since NJ Juniors Vs. NOAH Juniors seems to be a pretty hot program right now. I could easilly see Liger having someone like Kanemura or (when he's healthy) Marofuji to add that title to the tourniment.
