i don't think he's any worse than paul thomas anderson, and he managed to keep the 'boogie nights' commentary pretty interesting.

He has a new movie coming out in October 2003 called Kill Bill. The cast is looking good, especially with Sonny Chiba.

1.) I don't understand why everyone is dissapointed that there's no commentary. It's probably the most anaylised and disected movie of the 90's. I'll be the first to admit a commentary would have been nice, but the DVD isn't ruined because of there's not one. I may be happy because my expectations were low. I've been waiting for a special edition DVD for a long time and had long since knew that I would be happy with the DVD as long as it had the bonuses that the laserdisc had (according to IMDB that would be the deleted scenes and a one hour interview with Tarantino). I hope that the Charlie Rose interview is the entire show and not just highlights. It was a great interview and when I saw that it was included I was hoping that the Jackie Brown DVD would have the interview from around the time he was on to promote that film.

 

2.) Kill Bill probably would have been out by now except that Uma got preganent and filming was delayed for several months.

 

3.) I heard that he was going to start filming a World War II movie after Kill Bill.

Hell i've heard rumors of the supposed Tarantino WWII movie for 3 or 4 years now. That one point i believe that there were rumors that Adam Sandler was going to be cast in it and as a serious role.

director's commentary is the only special feature that i consistently care about. i don't want to see trailers or tv spots, cause they don't give me any extra insight into the movie (except maybe interviews). i'm indifferent to the deleted scenes cause i've read the screenplay & probably won't be surprised when i see them. what i like about commentary is the personal anecdotes that go with them, not analyzation or dissection (which is why i hate commentary by film critics). so, as it stands, i don't have any real reason to get the 'special edition' when i can watch my video.

i like video. i've spent way too many hours in the college library enjoying HORRIBLE prints of great movies with subtitles i can barely see on a shitty little tv to care about video quality a whole lot anymore. as long as i can see it and hear it clearly, it's good enough for me.
