Should Raw go to 3 hours?

Recommended Posts

Guest NoCalMike

Well with the overhaul of wrestlers on the roster, it seems the only plausable way to get more exposure for more of the "boys" is to expand the viewing time, but I would much rather be in favor of extending Raw another 30-60 minutes instead of adding a whole new program.

Thoughts?

No!

They have trouble putting an entire 2 hour show together. A longer show wouldn't help a damn thing and would make it worse if anything.

If they can't "book" a decent mid card for a two hour show what makes you think an extra hour would help.

I also say no. That's why they're going to split the WWF into 2. It still won't do any good because the same writing team will write both shows.

Another hour would just add to the oversaturation of the product, which is one of the main problems the WWF has right now.  They used to have one show to book, so they could expend all of their creative energy into that.  Now there are two *real* shows, so things get dragged out and there are rarely any really exciting, blowaway individual shows.  Adding an extra hour to RAW could potentially get airtime for more undercard guys, but the lazy booking that would most likely go into that wouldn't do anything for them.

I agree with Mike.  If we have 4 2hr shows a week people will stop watching.  It's just too much.

I was wondering...when the split happens, will each division each have one show, or two? I think that each division should have two shows. One can have Raw and Heat, the other SmackDown and the Excess slot (although it needs a new name). If not, Raw and SmackDown should each be three hours long. =)

I'm sure one side will get Heat. Or they can take turns with the WWF shows. One week Heat is "Flairs WWF", week two is Vince's WWF, etc. Excess should become a recap show for both WWF's.

Well i'm sure they will divide everything in even parts including shows. Well hopefully Vince and company will realize that they need to divide the writing staff and give each staff one show instead of having one staff write everything. Or perhaps he will realize that they need some new people on the writing staff(NOT Nash).

Well ok Vince hasn't realized that the current writing staff is doing a rather shitty job so him realizing something may be out of the question.

I agree with you 100%. Vince needs a different writing team for the split-off fed. If they stay the same, nothing will get better, as it will still be the same shitty booking team.

If there were no split looming on the horizon, I would say yes.

--Start at 8:00

--1st hour - under/midcard only with own bookers, cruiserweight division a must

--2nd hour - mix of midcard & main event (30/70 or 40/60 split)

--3rd hour - main event only with own bookers.

This would be a general outline to work with.  Of course, you could play a bit with the splits as needed.

It clicked because they did the same stuff that people liked about nWo in the first place.

Great booking?

not really

WWF giving the fans what WWF knew that the fans enjoyed at one point?

yes

Rather or not they will admit it, the thing about original nWo that most people enjoyed were the beatdowns and the violent attacks on anyone and everyone.

That would be the worst thing they could do.  Considering that they have two two-hour shows in a week,  they waste a significant amount of time in 20-minute promos that don't go anywhere and 15-minute video packages that cover the events of the past 2 days.

Having a 3-hour show would mean that there would be twice as many 20-minute promos because there seems to be a cap of 12 minutes of wrestling for the entire show unless there's something like Angle-HHH or Rock-Jericho in the main event.,

They could have Raw go to three hours but they should drop Excess, Live Wire, Heat, and any of the other shows that only draw three or four viewers each week.

3 hours of Raw?  Dear God, no, I can only get about 10 days of TV on one tape if I decide to bother taping everything.

One problem with the split:  is there any point in even giving one company or the other Jakked/Metal?

Excess would be better served being two hours of "From the Vault", IMO.  Especially with the WWF cracking down on anything non-commercial being put up on ebay.  I'd rather see some of the old MSG and Spectrum version than the Raw and SmackDown! stuff that I've already seen.  There is a need for a recap show, but not for two hours.

Jakked/Metal could be the only show where both feds wrestlers appear on. Not wrestling each other, but "Flairs WWF vs. "Flairs WWF" & Vince's WWF vs. Vince's WWF.

Three hours is to long for a TV show (Remember Nitro?).  They should split the roster, cut Excess to 1 hour and give it to the Raw crew and give Heat to the Smackdown crew.  They might as well drop Jakked/Metal, no one watches them or use them as recap shows 1 for each group.

They don't have livewire any more.

Hey! Metal's the best show! Funaki and Crash!

I really wouldn't mind if raw went to three hours, simply because i'd like to see tommy dreamer and raven again.

Tommy Dreamer will never get any type of push in the WWF.  He isn't in good shape, he wrestles in running gear, and he's not a good worker.  Vince won't push him.  This isn't an attack on gofez, just a statement of fact.

See the problem is alot of people think adding an hour will magically get more guys on TV. When the reality would be that it just gives them more time to spend on the main events and forcing us to see talking...and more talking...and more talking.

When Nitro was 3 hours, they were on top, and they had GREAT cruiserweight matches that we all got to see and created stars, but I think the difference is that they didn't have Thunder then.

If Raw was 3 hours, I'd love it if they had the cruiserweights perform in the first hour.  I mean can you imagine if the cruisers were actually allowed until I'd say 8:55 to have matches.  I can easily see angles and matches occuring because of the TV time limit.  It reminds me of the old TV title days.

Personally, I dont think Excess will ever do well because of its time slot.  If they could get a better time slot then I think that it could be a much more marketable show.

One extra Raw hour would breakdown into...

20 more minutes of McMahon air time

10 more minutes of HHH walking toward the ring

15 more mintues of Austin "What?"-ing a backstage "reporter"

15 more minutes of the Godfather promoting his escort service

Thanks but no thanks.
