Guest Kid Kablam Posted July 27, 2002 Report Posted July 27, 2002 Because the topic was what Jericho needs to do to be a big star, not if he can win a fake wrestling match. What does their PPV record have to do with that? Nothing. And they've only fought each other on PPV like 3 times. And to become a big star he needs to be given wins in PPV situations aHH going on Conan and saying that Jericho isn't a star yet. That way someone who watches casualy will look at that interview, and everytime they see Jericho, feel that they are seeing a midcarder. It's all about perception. The number of wins you get obviously isn't determined by how good you are in the ring, but how well you draw, and Jericho can't draw if he has HHH going on NBC of all places and telling casual fans that Jericho isn't ready. And as far as the two facing each other, it's not just when HHH faces Jericho. HHH is always getting that little extra. When Austin came back, who out lasted him in 2 out of 3 falls? When Mick FOley was ready to retire, who, beat him, no once, but twice in a row? And when Mick returned again at Wrestlemania, who became the first Heel to come in and walk out of Wrestlemanis with the belt? The answer, my friend is HHH.
Guest goodhelmet Posted July 27, 2002 Report Posted July 27, 2002 i take issue with the jericho mic skills comment sakura. first of all, jericho has more mic skills than hhh could ever possibly think of having. second, check out jericho going toe to toe w/ austin from the 5/21/01 RAW on the mic. third, mic skills are not the missing ingredient, respect from the bookers is. how can you logically justify jericho going over rock and austin (who busted their ass in helping jericho gain credibility) only to be squashed by hhh multiple times without breaking a sweat. bullshit! personally, i think hhh is the wrestler missing certain ingredients, because if he was the otal package (no, not lex luger) then he should be as big a name as the rock, austin or hogan. but guess what, he's not even in their league.
Guest Sakura Posted July 27, 2002 Report Posted July 27, 2002 I said HHH shouldn't have said that and what does HHH beating Foley or Austin have to do with anything I've said? There's no need to lecture me on how HHH buries everyone or whatever. i take issue with the jericho mic skills comment sakura. first of all, jericho has more mic skills than hhh could ever possibly think of having. Not to me. As far as main event promos go, I find HHH to be much better(though I didn't like his face work much). Jericho doesn't come across as a threat to me. Kurt plays a dorky arogant character but he sells it like he is 100% serious. Jericho comes off as forced. This "I am the king of the world" and "living legend" promos reek of cartoon character. I don't believe for a second he actually thinks he is larger than life. He just seems like a guy trying to be annoying. I don't buy it. I don't buy he can go one on one with Austin. It's a mid card act. It's cute, but it doesn't hype me up to see a championship match. However I really liked his face mic work in the Rock feud leading up to No Mercy. how can you logically justify jericho going over rock and austin (who busted their ass in helping jericho gain credibility) only to be squashed by hhh multiple times without breaking a sweat. Simple. That never happened. I agee Rock did a good job getting Jericho over in 2001 but in 2002 he hardly "busted his ass" to get him over. Rock and Austin killed Jericho's finishers and treated him like a bitch leading up to their respective ppv matches. Jericho had no heat or credibility going into his feud with HHH. and HHH didn't "squash Jericho multiple times without breaking a sweat". He beat Jericho TWICE. The match at Wrestlemania was hardly a squash. I didn't see the Judgment Day match but I am doubting it was a squash. The words "squash" and "buried" are used so much here the meaning is dead. Beating Chris Jericho is now a "squash". At WM Jericho controlled offense throughout the match and nearly made HHH pass out from his finisher but he ended up losing in the end. Somehow that's a "squash". Whatever.

Jericho's WCW/Early WWF mic work was good. I think the reason that his promos some off sounding so forced/irritating these days is because they're trying to keep the crowd from cheering him. If he went back to cutting his old school promos, he'd start getting face pops.
Guest cabbageboy Posted July 27, 2002 Report Posted July 27, 2002 I think from day 1 HHH was concerned about Jericho stealing his thunder. The Nash stuff, Chyna, etc. are just pieces of the puzzle. HHH endorsed Jericho for undisputed champ because he simply needed someone to beat at WM who had no backstage pull and couldn't veto jobbing. Austin might not have wanted to job to HHH at WM, but Jericho was in no position to argue. Heh, and now that Jericho is a former world champion he now has to "give something back" to the up and coming stars.
Guest jester Posted July 28, 2002 Report Posted July 28, 2002 HHH was on Conan the week before MAnia...and he said that Jericho was missing something that he couldn't put his finger on before he could be a top guy. Off the Record on TSN just reran an interview they did with HHH before Wrestlemania...and he said the exact same thing. That Jericho was missing something. I guess that angle with the dog was meant to give it to him. Actually, HHH said a few interesting things. I should rewatch it and post a few of his comments... jester
Guest Redhawk Posted July 29, 2002 Report Posted July 29, 2002 Why hasn't someone made the obvious joke about someone going stiff on Chyna and connecting it to why she's so ugly?
Guest thebigjig Posted July 29, 2002 Report Posted July 29, 2002 ah, because that would offend papacita
