WCW Champs Tournament

Recommended Posts

Guest JaKyL25

*DISCLAIMER--I am counting the WCW title as existing from 1991 until 2001, with Chris Jericho considered as the last Champion when he defeated The Rock at Vengeance '01. If you disagree, feel free to say so, but that's how I count it.

Rankings are determined by number of title reigns, with my opinion on which champion had more of an impact as tiebreakers.

Okay, since 22 Men held the WCW Championship, which is a very odd number to do tournaments with, the #1-#10 seeds all make it into the next round, with seeds #11-#22 duking it out for the last 6 slots in round 2.

Here are seeds #1-10, who all get byes to round 2:

#1-Ric Flair

#2-Sting

#3-Hollywood/Hulk Hogan

#4-Booker T

#5-Kevin Nash

#6-Jeff Jarrett

#7-Randy Savage

#8-Big Van Vader

#9-Dallas Page

#10-Lex Luger

Here are the 6 Round 1 matches:

#11-The Rock vs. #22-Vince Russo

#12-Chris Jericho vs. #21-David Arquette

#13-Bret Hart vs. #20-Kurt Angle

#14-Bill Goldberg vs. #19-Chris Benoit

#15-Scott Steiner vs. #18-Ron Simmons

#16-The Giant vs. #17-Sid

Voting Starts Now, and lasts until After Raw this Monday.

This is sad...but since I don't personally count WWE wrestlers winning the WCW title as legit world championship reigns...

Vince Russo

David Arquette

Bret Hart

Goldberg

Ron Simmons

Giant

Just to toss in a word, I kinda expected some controversy over the WWF wrestlers winning the WCW title, but I figure that it's the same title belt, no matter where it's defended. The fact that it was defended against WWF wrestlers too kinda makes it MORE of a world title in a way. Okay, that sounds silly, but it's late. Bottom line is that I count the WWF guys since Vince owned the company, and tried to make it appear as if it was still a separate company, so therefore I count the title reigns.

What I AM surprised to see are the amount of Simmons over Steiner votes. Was I the only one that thoroughly enjoyed the Magnificent Seven angle?

The difference is that they (Angle, Rock and Jericho) didn't have to work their way to the top of that company to win the belt.

Thats also why I don't consider those three to be double champions (people who have won both WCW and WWE titles) because they won them from the same promoter in the same company.

6 days actually, if you count from when Smackdown is taped until Raw when he lost it. :)
