Well,I drove 2 1/2 hours to Memphis to see the show.Not horrible....not particularly great.And I would guess the attendance was around 500...maybe.

 

First off.....the main event of Jerry Lawler vs Terry Funk w/Jimmy Hart had to be changed because neither Hart nor Funk showed.Instead we got Lawler vs Billy Joe Travis.Which wasn't bad...a decent brawl that went all over Mid-South Coliseum with Lawler being dominated by Travis the whole match until the big "strap comes down-Lawler kicks ass" comeback.But as Lawler said himself on a prematch promo......Travis is no Terry Funk. The Rock N Roll Express vs Buddy Landel and Jamie Dundee w/Bill Dundee in their corner.Short match that the RRE won.The Moondogs won a short brawl.Koko B Ware w/Sherri Martel won a squash basically.Koko was a pretty vicious heel.Plus he's a lot bigger than he used to be.Jimmy Valiant won a short match that was entertaining thanks to his opponent.I think they billed the guy as "The Fabulous Playboy"Buddy Rose Jr. Most exciting match of the night was Kid Kash vs another cruiserweight ( Forgive me,I have no idea what the guy's name was).And Derrick King was memorable in the opening match.

 

There was a meet and greet scheduled for 6:00-7:30 but they didn't let anyone in until 6:45.In the room were 4 guys I didn't recognize and Sherri Martel.So I talked to Sherri a minute and then found out that Valiant,the Rock n Rolls and Kid Kash were farther down the hall.Jimmy Valiant has lost a lot of weight since his NWA days but he still looks basically the same.

 

Other noteworthy no show.........Bobby Eaton.Biggest disappointment of the night for me because I thought I would finally get to meet him.And no Lawler autograph.

 

For an old school guy like me,it was just f'n cool to be in the Coliseum.So much history in that building.

i was at this show, it was terrible. bill dundee hurled racial slurs at the black people in the crowd.
