Guest Black Tiger Posted July 28, 2002 Report Posted July 28, 2002 That's a lot of fuckin tapes. I haven't seen most of them, but the ones I HAVE seen are very good.
Guest Dangerous A Posted July 28, 2002 Report Posted July 28, 2002 I have seen goldenboytapes put that auction out there several times. I have considered bidding on it myself several times, but usually the price stops me cause I buy too much puro. From what I see, you are getting some pretty good stuff. I have the 1993 stuff and that is fairly good. I have some of the other stuff. Of note, you should really try to get to the New Japan vs UWFi October Dome show and the New Japan vs All Japan tape with the October 2000 Dome show with Kawada vs Sasaki. Their first match up had a TON of heat and was one of the best matches of 2000. Enjoy, just don't burn yourself out on it. *On a side note, I just lost out on 4 classic All Japan tapes from goldenboytapes to Art Vandelay earlier today. Damn you, Art! Damn you! (kidding)
Guest Downhome Posted July 28, 2002 Report Posted July 28, 2002 Thanks guys, lol, you are a big help as I wont know where to start with this! One question though... ...I noticed in that lot just now that it includes the J-Crown Tournament 1996. How many J-Crown tourny's are there and are they as good as the Super J-Cup's?
Guest Downhome Posted July 28, 2002 Report Posted July 28, 2002 Ok, I am full of questions, lol. I just noticed Super Liger (Chris Jericho) vs. Koji Kanemoto is on there, and I must ask... ...Super Liger? What is that all about, is it a Jushin Thunder Liger gimmick, or just me being crazy?
Guest Trivia247 Posted July 28, 2002 Report Posted July 28, 2002 From what I know the J Crown was to Unify all the Independant Junior/Lightheavyweight/Middleweight titles that was floating around. I Know going in El Samurai was the WWF Light heavyweight Champion.
Guest PlatypusFool Posted July 28, 2002 Report Posted July 28, 2002 There was one and only J Crown tournament, to unify all the major junior heavyweight belts into one, massive, octuple entity. It was a pretty damn good tourny, not as good as either of the 94 or 95 J Cups, although widely considered to be better than the 2000 J Cup. Especially of note on that tape is the super great classic match betwixt Ohtani and Ultimo Dragon which I rewatched today and now note it was one of the most fast-paced yet smartly built matches in the history of wrestling.
Guest Black Tiger Posted July 28, 2002 Report Posted July 28, 2002 Because Lyger was getting almost unbeatable, NJ wanted to make a heel version of him. He'd look just like him, but he's faster, younger, and stronger. Jericho wasn't comfortable in the suit however and after his match with Kanemoto the gimmick was killed. That match was the same show that Lyger won the J*Crown, this would have probably led to Lyger vs Super Lyger for the J*Crown at a Tokyo Dome show. Either Lyger would have won and killed the gimmick, or Super Lyger would have won and WCW would have gloated over Jericho winning and had him show up on a Nitro with the belts and give away who he was.
Guest wolverine Posted July 28, 2002 Report Posted July 28, 2002 Especially of note on that tape is the super great classic match betwixt Ohtani and Ultimo Dragon which I rewatched today and now note it was one of the most fast-paced yet smartly built matches in the history of wrestling. And it's WAY better than their Super J Cup 95 match (as in a full star rating better).
Guest Downhome Posted July 28, 2002 Report Posted July 28, 2002 I just noticed that April 1993: Hogan vs. Muta is included in this lot. Is that really as good as I hear many people say?
Guest Grenouille Posted July 28, 2002 Report Posted July 28, 2002 I just noticed that April 1993: Hogan vs. Muta is included in this lot. Is that really as good as I hear many people say? It's been a while since I've seen, but I'd call it middle of road. Hogan seemed like he was genuinely trying and Muta was only a little lazy. It's really not that bad. Basically an entertaining match, but not a classic.
Guest Phr33k Posted July 28, 2002 Report Posted July 28, 2002 I heard that the 01/04/97 Tokyo Dome show is awful, so pass on that. Everything else... you lucky little fucker, you.
Guest thefrenchargel Posted July 28, 2002 Report Posted July 28, 2002 Especially of note on that tape is the super great classic match betwixt Ohtani and Ultimo Dragon which I rewatched today and now note it was one of the most fast-paced yet smartly built matches in the history of wrestling. And it's WAY better than their Super J Cup 95 match (as in a full star rating better). Total agreement. 95 Super J..Ultimo to the top rope...WHIFF
Guest J*ingus Posted July 28, 2002 Report Posted July 28, 2002 Damn you Downhome, I had my eye on that auction. Golden Boy will also substitute tapes for you if you ask.
Guest RickyChosyu Posted July 28, 2002 Report Posted July 28, 2002 Yeah, I would rank Ohtani/Ultimo over any match on both the '94 and '95 J-Cups. It's fantastic. Well, you're getting a whole ton of New Japan, which is good and bad. The Juniors stuff should be awesome, but many times the Dome crowds give them no heat and make them come off worse than they are. The heavies can have some real tripe, but Hashimoto can be a real treat sometimes, and Takada's run as IWGP Champion durring the NJ/UWFi feud produced some awesome matches. You'll find some awesome stuff, but the fast forward button will also become your friend.
Guest Downhome Posted July 28, 2002 Report Posted July 28, 2002 Golden Boy will also substitute tapes for you if you ask. What do you mean by that?
Guest Black Tiger Posted July 29, 2002 Report Posted July 29, 2002 He means that Goldenboy will substitute one tape for another if you ask him to.
Guest Downhome Posted July 29, 2002 Report Posted July 29, 2002 He means that Goldenboy will substitute one tape for another if you ask him to. I contacted him, and I substituted for the 11 hour G1 Climax Cliped series, 11 hours of Torymon, various stuff in that. Call me crazy, but I can not stand all clipped stuff, much LESS 11 hours worth, lol.
Guest Black Tiger Posted July 29, 2002 Report Posted July 29, 2002 I working on the Hyper History of the G-1 Climax right now. I haven't seen any of the G-1's before so I figured this was the best place to start. Its not too offensive in the clipping. They show mostly full matches during the the tournament, they just clip the finals of each one. So far I've got through 1991-1995, and 1997. I kept falling asleep when I'd try to watch 1996 (after work) so I just said forget it and put another tape in the VCR
Guest the 1inch punch Posted July 29, 2002 Report Posted July 29, 2002 Because Lyger was getting almost unbeatable, NJ wanted to make a heel version of him. It should also be pointed out that this was when Jericho made his world famous Shooting Star Press attempt
Guest BionicRedneck Posted July 29, 2002 Report Posted July 29, 2002 It should also be pointed out that this was when Jericho made his world famous Shooting Star Press attempt Nope, it wasn't you are talking about the SSP when Jericho broke his arm? Right? If so, it wasnt in this match
Guest Downhome Posted August 22, 2002 Report Posted August 22, 2002 I just wanted to say that I just got all of these tapes in the mail today, so wish me luck! I'll post my thoughts no different stuff as I watch it. I just put the Muta vs. Hase Bloodbath Classic in my VCR, and suffice it to say, it IS a bloodbath, and I am not even to the end of the match yet.
Guest godthedog Posted August 23, 2002 Report Posted August 23, 2002 2 questions: 1) how much was all that? 2) do you ever plan on watching all of it?
Guest Downhome Posted August 23, 2002 Report Posted August 23, 2002 2 questions: 1) how much was all that? 2) do you ever plan on watching all of it? 1) $70 2) Let me put it this way, I never buy tapes unless I plan to watch them all, period.
