Stop calling it the goddamn Undisputed title!

Recommended Posts

Guest Youth N Asia

Jesus Tapdancing Christ I am tired of hearing about the "Undisputed Title"...you killed them all, Vince...there's nothing left to dispute anyway.

I don't mind the name so much...but I hate hearing "Kurt Angle is going after his first undisputed title"...they make it seem like his 2 world titles before that were meaningless since they weren't "undisputed"

Ok...I finally came around to calling the WWF the WWE...and I'm use to Chavo not having the Jr...but I just cannot and will not get use to saying Undisputed all the damn time...it's the world title or the heavyweight title to me.

Wow, somebody needs to take a bitter-away pill. By the way...

...I just realize that Chavo lost the Jr. on Smackdown. Is that the first show that they did so?

I was bitching about the same thing a while ago, and no one seemed to get it. What really bugged me was when they were calling it the "Undisputed WWF Title," when the champ was still carrying around both belts. The WWF title was never in dispute in the first place. I wish they'd just call it the World Title or something.

if they bring the ECW world title back they can unify them and call it the triple crown championship

I wouldn't like that...it would imply that the person has won all three titles, which no one has...hell, if you don't count the NWA belt then no former ECW champ has gone on to win another world title (WWF or WCW)

I would like to see the ECW title back...but that's just me being a brainwashed ECW mark

Nah, I'm alright...this has just been bugging the hell out of me...I didn't mind it when they called it that after the fact...but I didn't think the damn thing would stick

Actually, the idea of the Triple Crown would be cool...especially if it WAS all three belts.

Just imagine Kurt Angle beating Brock after Lesnar defeats Rocky at SummerSlam, and coming down to the ring with the WWF Title around his waist, the WCW World title over one shoulder, and the ECW World title over another shoulder.

As to YNA's feeling that it would imply the person has one all three belts, I say: what about the Triple Crown title in (New/All, not sure which?) Japan? Are you saying every holder of the Triple Crown in (New/All) Japan has won all three titles by themselves?

I think it would just prove the theory that some people have held that WWE is really an amalgamation of the "Big 3" promotions of the past decade.

I wish that they would call it the "Undisputed Heavyweight title" or just the "heavyweight title" because if you think about it, the IC and Tag Team titles are "undisputed" as well.

Wasn't there a rumor when they changed the name to WWE that they were going to call it the World Wrestling Champioship? What happened to that?

Technically...going by the WWE view that the WCW and WWE titles were the world championships...

Wouldn't everyone who held one of the belts while the other was held up also be an undisputed champion?

Here is a list of all the people to hold the "Undisputed Title" if that were the case.

Ric Flair (was NWA World champion when Andre handed the belt to DiBiase)

Vader

Sting (Both held the WCW title while the WWF title was held up going into Rumble 92)

Hulk Hogan (WCW champion when HBK forfitted WWF title leading into Fianl Four)

Goldberg (WCW champion when Austin was pinned by both Taker and Kane...leading to Survivor Series 98)

Sting (again...was WCW champ when Vince gave up the title)

Hulk Hogan (again...was WWF champion when Flair left WCW with the belt)

Kevin Nash

Bret Hart (Both held the WWF title between title was declared vacant after a Hogan/Giant match...untill World War 3)

Shawn Micheals (WWF champion when WCW title was held up after Hogan/Sting...until Sting won it back)

HHH

Big Show (Both held title while WCW belt was held up leading to Bret vs Benoit in tourney finals)

Big Show (again...was Still WWF champion when Bret gave up the WCW title and won it back later that night)

Big Show (yes...again...was STILL WWF champion when Bret gave up belt due to injury)

HHH (again...won the WWF title before the WCW title was won by Benoit)

HHH (yet again....was still champ when Benoit gave up the belt)

HHH (sigh...again...as crazy WCW booking caused their title to be held up again the night after the last vacancy was filled)

HHH (dammit...still champion during WCW relaunch...when all titles were stripped)

Rock (after Russo gave up WCW title)

Add on to that the people who have won the WWE's version of the "undisputed title":

Chris Jericho

HHH (for a record SIXTH time as the only WWE recognized "World" champion)

Hulk Hogan

Undertaker

Rock

Whew

The last REAL undisputed champion in wrestling history was Lou Thesz, so that's why it kind of pisses me off when they refer to Jericho as the first undisputed champion, even if they are talking about the first undisputed WWE/F champion, which makes no sense what so ever

They later wrote about it differently in RAW magazine.

Acknowledging 5 people as previous undisputed champions throughout history:

George Hackenshmidt

Frank Gotch

Joe Stecher

Whipper Billy Watson

and Lou Thesz

It was a pretty good article, discussing how the title got disputed and why those 5 were undisputed.

It made a point of calling Thesz the last Undisputed Champion.

IMO, they should call it "World Heavyweight Championship" or "Unifed World Championship." "WWE Champion" sounds retarded and if it was "Undisputed", why is everyone fighting over it?

I dissagree about the "unified" championship because the title situation at the time, between the WCW/World title and the WWF title was ridiculous and mirrored the situation in the early 90's between the "International" championship and WCW championship

Wrong. Vader held the belt from July to August 92, December to March 93, March to December 93

"Sting (Both held the WCW title while the WWF title was held up going into Rumble 92)"

Wrong. Lex Luger held the belt at that time.

"Big Show (yes...again...was STILL WWF champion when Bret gave up belt due to injury)"

Wrong. HHH held the title during that vacancy.

Sorry I had to correct you. :)

Woops...I was looking at late92-early 93 for those 2

Wrong. HHH held the title during that vacancy.

HHH was given credit for that in the next line...I was under the impression that Bret was injured prior to HHH winning that belt, so I thought it was vacated before Show lost it.

HHH informally unified the titles in USA, after beating WCW champ Benoit and ECW champ Tazz.

As long as its not the 'WWE' title which would make it an 'Entertainment' chmpionship (WTF?)

Call it the World Heavyweight Championship, thats what I say. If there's nothing to dispute, then why not?

You guys should know you can't count on WWE to remember something for just one week, so why would you expect them to remember that?

You can be as old-school as you want to be, but when you start going so old-school that the guys you're talking about can only be seen in old black & white matches from the 40s and 50s, it's hard to imagine that the mainstream will respect or even remember that.

BPS...good call on that Raw mag article. It was one of the better-written pieces in a magazine that, for a WWE publication, is pretty solid.

As far as them calling it the "Undisputed WWE Title" goes, I think it's kind of silly. As mentioned, who would dispute it (NWATNA? AJPW? Come on) at this point, and besides, the novelty has worn off. We get it already. This is the only big prize in the game today. Blah, blah, blah blah blah. Call it the WWE Title, or maybe even the WWE "World" or "Heavyweight" Title, and be done with it.

Calling the belt the "Undisputed WWE Championship" or the "WWE Undisputed Championship" (and they flip-flop between those two almost interchangeably) is asinine either way.

The WWE (or when it was unified, WWF) title wasn't in dispute. The WCW-turned generic "World"- championship wasn't in disupute. The only dispute was who was the true champion between those two.

So, in uniting those two belts, it would be correct to say the "Undisputed Champion" or "Unified Champion." You can't attach one company name without the other and still use the term "undisputed." It's a self-contradicting title.

I also think that calling it a "World" championship (especially the "Undisputed World" championship) is wrong because there ARE other wrestling companies besides WWE (and WCW and ECW). They have champions too.

To me, the easiest solution is to just call the title the "WWE Championship." That is what the belt says. That is all the belt really recognizes any more. That's what it should be called.

Isn't Triple H only a 5 time Champion?

The Triple Crown is AJPW, btw :)

Thanks...I always forget who has the Triple Crown, and who has the IWGP belts.

But still, I like the idea of calling it the Triple Crown title. Best yet:

Put the WWF logo on it, the WCW logo, and the ECW logo. That way it truly IS an amalgamation.

It makes sense. There were two WWF World Titles at that point(WWF Championship and The World Title). Both were WWF titles fought and defended in the WWF. Unifying them created a single world title belt in the WWF. So it's the Undisputed WWF Title.

it would be entertaining For One year... The WWE and all the Major Companies have a year round Tournament event, where the WWE goes to each fed and unifies the World title, while their wrestlers face off against each other. Feds from America and Japan.

and at the end all the titles reset to their Companies

HHH is a five time champion...but I was counting the # of times his title reign matches up against a vacant WCW title...therefore making him undisputed.

That happened 6 times over the course of his reigns.
