Sequels that were worse than the original

The only movie that's worse than Highlander 2...

...is Highlander 2: The Renegade Version.

Temple of Doom is a good film, although it is the weakest of the three.

Agreed.

I immedeatly thought of Highlander 2, but as I hadn't seen it in years, I didn't post in case I had convinced myself it was worse than it was.

I'm glad to see others share my opinion on a very crappy film!

Highlander must've set some sort of record for spawining crap. 3 movies, 2 TV shows and 1 animated show.

I believe that Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie was worse than the original, but that's a debatable point since both were quite bad. But Turbo had that kid, so I give it the nod.

Naked Gun 2 & 3 were worse than the original, although they didn't suck.

And all Disney animated direct-to-video sequels suck.

Actually, there's five movies in the "esteemed" Highlander franchise:

Highlander (which is where it should have ended)

Highlander 2

Highlander 2: Renegade Edition

Highlander "3" - The Final Dimension

Highlander: Endgame

The third one was a total subpar rip-off from the first, the last one was pretty lousy unless you were a huge geek for the TV series, and the second one is probably one of the top ten worst films of all time.

You missed two excruciatingly bad ones...

Caddyshack 2

Grease 2

Hey, I happen to like those!

But I do have an affection for horrible movies, so it's all in the eye of the beholder I suppose.

Also, to Mr. Rant and my good buddy Evenflow...there is actually more than 2 Caged Heats to my knowledge. While at a local Blockbuster, I noticed in the action movies some poorly made box art on one of the cases. The movie was Caged Heat 2000. I'm sure they only meant 2000 to be the year,or to sound futuristic (at the time) because if there's another 1,997 of those movies floating around, then some people have no decency and entirely too much time on their hands ;).

Back to the topic at hand. Zack Malibu's picks for worst sequels:

Police Academy:Mission To Moscow

Ace Ventura:When Nature Calls

Tiger Claws 2

Curse Of The Puppetmaster

Friday The 13th, Part 5

And yes, I own 3 of the 5 :D

Any of the Best of The Best movies after the original Best of The Best (the one with James Earl Jones) because the first rocked.

Gotta disagree, Mr. Rant. As an avid martial arts fan, though I haven't seen 3 or 4, I do like Best of the Best 2 as much as the first, even though it became "standard action fare". I haven't heard really anything on 4, but I've heard that part 3 is actually a really good movie with a good plot to it.

All the Bloodsports after the first one sucked.

Oh, come on. Godfather III wasn't THAT bad. Sure, it's not a great movie by any stretch, but its not the abomination most make it out to be. The reason it gets such a bad rep is because I and II are both classics.

BTW, the worst sequel ever is Speed 2, without question.

Highlander 2 should be the subject of an entire course at film school.

You can call it:

Filmaking 202: How to Make A Sequel and Piss All Over the Original

I don't believe the screenwriter ever actually watched the original, because the first thing he does is throw it all out the window.

'See....they're really ALIENS!'

Lambert, Mulcahey and Connery were all there because of 'contractual obligations'.

And Michael Ironside, a guy I respect greatly for being a 'working man's actor' and taking whatever job comes his way, played 'General Katana'.

I guess Colonel Sword was going to be used for part V or something.

If watched as a standalone film, its nothing special and kind of dumb with large plot holes. Its only when watched as a sequel to Highlander thats it full wretchedness shines through.

Highlander III was a clone of the first one, but watchable. I actually kind of like Endgame for what it was, a decent little movie.

All the Renegade version accomplishes is removing all mentions of the planet Zeist, instead one has to assume that this was merely Atlantis or something they were coming from. It actually makes less sense than the non-directors cut, but whatever.

Now, while I don't think it was a truly truly super bad movie, that kid was ANNOYING!

Short Round was the best part of the movie.

Temple of Doom is a good film, although it is the weakest of the three.

Definitely...Shorty was great. Now, Kate Capshaw, on the other hand...ugh.

It's like comparing Chris Benoit matches. Chris Benoit vs. Undertaker might be only ***1/2 when compared to a Benoit-Guerrero ***** classic, but you know you're getting a couple of very watchable matches.

BTW, I can't believe no one's mentioned Rocky V yet (AKA The One That Should Never Have Been Filmed).

That's because no one has actually seen Rocky V.

I've only watched about 10 minutes of my DVD of Bloodsport 4, and that movie seems tapped beyond belief. I'm afraid to think of what 2 and 3 are like. You know your movie is sad when the one starring Jean Claude Van Damme looks like an Oscar winner in comparison.

On the other hand, the Kickboxer sequels were pretty damn good.

I can't believe I forgot to mention these! Each time a commercial comes on for these, I shake my head in disbelief!

What executive at Disney though: "Let's fuck up the legacy of EVERY animated classic we got for a quick buck cause kids will buy anything by Disney...especially shitty (aka: written on a cocktail napkin) sequels to our well-known beloved movies."

Still to come: Snow White 2, Bambi 2, and Jungle Book 2 (Go ahead, ruin my favorite! )

BTW, I saw Rocky V...many times...sucked every time

See, in Bambi 2, we realize that Bambi's mother FAKED her death just so that Bambi would grow up sooner because he was such a fucking pussy.

OR...

Bambi gets super powers and saves the world from evil lumberjacks.

Say...I just got an idea for a movie...EVIL ZOMBIE LUMBERJACKS.

Exactly - it's a total wash.

But outside of the Highlander series, which is totally packed to the hilt with nauseating sequels...my pick for the worst sequel ever is:

Halloween - The Return of Michael Myers (#6)

For single worst sequel ever? I'd probably have to go with the horrid ass disaster that is Texas Chainsaw Massacre 4. I mean, unless you've seen it, there's just no way to even attempt to describe how bad this movie is.

Aren't there like 15 Aladdin movies?

Though it was not a horrible movie, Escape from LA was nowhere near as good as Escape from NY.

It was okay, but it followed the plot of NY almost step by step.

Ummm let's see here-

The Next Karate Kid-ewwwwwwww

Ace Ventura 2

I refuse to watch any Disney STV sequal. They did a Buzz Lightyear movie w/o Tim Allen!

GF III gets a bad rap because of Sophia Copola being cast as the lead female. She made Stephanie McMahon's acting look like DeNiro by comparison. This was also the first GF after AL Pacino started going over the top with his acting ("just when i think I got out, THEY PULL ME BACK IN!") making it a inconsisitant with the 2 previous films. I do like the movie but it not in the same league as the first 2.
