Guest Daredevil21 Report post Posted July 28, 2002 From the Digital Bits: Also this afternoon, we've got a look at the DVD cover artwork and specs for Fox's upcoming Malcolm in the Middle: The Complete First Season (street date 10/29 - SRP $39.98). The 3-disc set will include all 16 first-season episodes (including the new-for-DVD extended pilot episode), along with the Malcolm in the Middle: A Stroke of Genius featurette, running audio commentary on select episodes, the first season gag reel, deleted scenes, alternate show openings, the original cold open for The Bots and the Bees, the Malcolm "TVOgraphy", "Malcolm Vision" widescreen bloopers, Behind the Middle (a behind-the-scenes sneak preview of Season Two), Dewey's Day Job featurette (a portrait of Erik Per Sullivan) and first season promotional TV spots. Video is full frame (1.33:1), with audio in English 4.0 Surround, French Dolby Surround and Spanish Dolby Surround. All I've got to say is, "w00t~!" This is one of the few really good shows left on TV, and while I don't see it lasting that many more seasons, I've really enjoyed the series since the pilot. Although it's only been about two and a half years since it debuted, it'll be cool to see how much the show has changed (one of the clip shows reminded me just how little Malcom, Dewey, and Reese were when the show started). Here's the artwork for the DVD case: Can't wait. Even though I'll be rotting away in the classroom by then, it'll be good to know that I have the Simpsons season 2 and Malcom waiting for me at home. Guest C.H.U.D. Report post Posted July 28, 2002 This is old news, but it's still good news. Now, where the hell is Futurama?
Guest JaKyL25 Report post Posted July 29, 2002 Sweet, the best sitcom currently running on television, IMO, coming to DVD ALREADY. I really can't wait until Seasons 2 and 3 come out, though, since I feel that the show really doesn't hit its full stride until Season 2 (If I remember correctly), and some episodes of these two seasons are downright artistic. I wonder if the show has peaked, or can they push the sitcom art-form even FARTHER? On a side note, how come it took almost a year in-between the first two Simpsons DVD sets? If there's a good answer, I'd be open to it, but other than time to record commentaries, I really don't understand the delay.

I wonder if the show has peaked, or can they push the sitcom art-form even FARTHER? I personally, think the show has peaked. As much as I hate to admit it, I think the aging of the kids will play a part in its ultimate demise. There's still plenty of things they can do, storyline wise, but most shows jump the shark once the kids grow up, and I don't think Malcom will be any exception. I say 2-3 more seasons before they hang it up. On a side note, how come it took almost a year in-between the first two Simpsons DVD sets? If there's a good answer, I'd be open to it, but other than time to record commentaries, I really don't understand the delay. Apparently, in addition to recording the commentaries, they wanted to add in more features and what not, in effort to make it as good as possible. From the reviews, it sounds like they just missed a fantastic DVD set, but for any die hard Simpsons fan, it will be great regardless. Hopefully, they will get on some sort of a regular schedule, as far as release dates are concerned. A season every 6 months seems like a possibility. I'm just eager to get to seasons 3 and on, when the show really hit its stride.
Guest Anorak Report post Posted July 29, 2002 Malcom In the Middle is the only non-animated American sitcom I really rate and its great that its coming out on DVD so quickly. When the hell is Red Dwarf coming out on DVD? I can't believe its not been released yet! The Simpsons, Futurama, Father Ted, Spaced, The League of Gentlemen and Family Guy DVD's are avaliable to get so why not RD? I need to pick up some Alan Partridge and The Fast Show stuff as well. At least there's new series of I'm Alan Partridge, Peter Kay's Phoenix Nights and Marion and Geoff on in the next few weeks!
