His intro was groundbreaking.

He shot out from the ground like a cannon, going with the fireworks.

This is what I saw on smackdown from Rey the legend.

he shot out of the stage for his entrance..."GREATEST EVER!!! I'm marking out!"

he shows us offence we've seen a million times before..."ehhh...maybe he's saving something for the end of the match..."

He hit's a springboard rana..."When does Lita come back again?"

I guess we saw the match from different perspectives.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Misterio will never succeed in the WWE because he will have to work their lame ass style. They deball all the cruiserweights so clods like Hunter and Taker are not outshined. Therefore, Rey is screwed. His match on Smackdown is a prime example of what you are going to see from Rey in the WWE. A couple high spots here and there, but mostly WWE mini-heavyweight "action".

"for those of you who disagree kiss me ass "

I disagree, and I'm not going anywhere near your ass.The quality of the match, while good, pales in comparison to what he used to be able to do. The match even pales in comparison to other WWE CW matches, which at least had psychology and,y'know, workrate.Rey'll get pushed for about three months before being jobbed out to some heavyweight. He deserves worse than that for re-donning the mask, however I spoke of that in another thread.

"I've said it before and I'll say it again. Misterio will never succeed in the WWE because he will have to work their lame ass style."

What, you mean a style that is based on selling and such?A style that is 10x better than the WCW version of said style? That style?Mysterio won't succeed is goddamn right, because Mysterio sucks now.His knees are shit, and he hasn't shown the ability to adapt to that without sucking copious and chronic amounts of ass.

"They deball all the cruiserweights so clods like Hunter and Taker are not outshined."

Deball? What the fuck does that even mean? No,they "deball" them so they can work an actual match instead of a ceollection of spots.Mysterio's never been that good unless he had someone to slow him down and make his highspots appear better than they really were.Hopefully this style of wrestling will allow him to at least look different,if not better, than the other CWs.

"Therefore, Rey is screwed. His match on Smackdown is a prime example of what you are going to see from Rey in the WWE. A couple high spots here and there, but mostly WWE mini-heavyweight "action". "

Yup,it sure is an example of what we'll see.Matches that are designed for a style that includes psychology, selling, and all-around good wrestling, which is somthing Mysterio can't accomplish unless a superior wrestler holds his hand and leads him through the match.Chavo, while good, is not that superior wrestler

Well, if you want to go after nay of his Puerto Rico and IOWA work over the past eight or so months, than you can see that Rey has adapted and he's a much stronger wrestler than he ever was. He's learned over the past couple of months what hurt him when his knees buckled out on him; that he couldn't revert back to the highspot style he had lived and died by since a teenager, that he had to develop an ample mat game with more bumping, controlled high spots generously paced out during the match, and decent selling to boot.

I've have yet to see the "all-around good wrestling" you claim of take place in the WWE, ever.

Must... Control.... Fist of death.

This "cruisers must work WWE style" shit is just a Smark assumption and rumor. Jumping to conclusions is bad for you children. In all interviews and so on with the Cruisers, we've heard nothing about working a different style or whatever. The only closest thing is Rey saying he plans to slow it down. He probably wouldn't last five months with the injuries piling up if he worked like he used to.

Rey has a finisher?!

I do not like i do not like at all...

The "619", that swinging kick through the ropes.

Then he did some flippy move and Michael Cole called it "The Dorito".

It is not a smark rumor.

It comes from stupid JR's ross reports about how everyone must learn to use the WWE style.

And his stupid quotes like "Shannon Moore and Jamie Noble look good...but need to slow it down"

Then we get the KOTR match with the slowed down Noble.

Yeah...sign me up.

The WWE style is more than just about selling...it's about NOT working stiff, NOT working highspots...No Brainbusters...MORE Spinebusters...boring paint by numbers seen one match seen em all...predictable comebacks...Psychology is not there...or not followed up on (Unless it's Velocity)...And every match ends with the loser getting his heat back.

Amazing how before the "inmates running the asylum" era in WCW, that they were able to have high flying crusierweights AND the brawling, muscly uppercard

I think thats the whole "3 hour show" mystique.

Burn the crusers at the 8:00 hour, then make 9:00 all promos, so by the time they get back to the wrestling and the main event, the cruisers are all but forgotten...

"I've have yet to see the "all-around good wrestling" you claim of take place in the WWE, ever."

Flair's RR '92 victory,Shawn Michaels/Diesel vs. Razor Ramon/1-2-3 Kid,Bret Hart vs. Owen Hart,Benoit vs. Austin (The Smackdown match),Taka Michinoku vs. The Great Sasuke(The RAW match),Cactus Jack vs. HHH (The Streerfight,REAL 2000 MOTY) and the Canadian Stampede 10man main event are just a few examples of great wrestling. If you want to be an elitist, that's fine with me,but try not to make such ludicrous statements for godsakes.

EDIT:"The WWE style is more than just about selling...it's about NOT working stiff, NOT working highspots"

because god forbid wrestlers are able to wrestle well by the time they're 40.

"...No Brainbusters"

Oh no,not no brainbuster!!What are we going to do now?Maybe fill a match with moves that don't drop people on their fucking heads? How is this a bad thing?

"...MORE Spinebusters"

What,do you take off a star for every spinebuster in a match?Saying a certain style of wrestling sucks because a bunch of wrestlers choose to use a spinebuster is ridiculous.

"...boring paint by numbers seen one match seen em all"

The WWE style-wrestling CWs don't exactly have the same matches as the Undertaker.

"...predictable comebacks"

Really?I'd love if you could predict the next time a Noble comeback will happen in a TV match?

"...Psychology is not there...or not followed up on (Unless it's Velocity)"

Ever think the problem lies with shitty quality wrestlers, and not the style? The RR 2000 streetfight has psychology, and that's WWF style.

"...And every match ends with the loser getting his heat back. "

In certain situations,I cannot see how this is a bad thing.

I thought you were talking about a general period the WWE style had produced where most of the matches were decent to good (based on the workers), which I have yet to see, which I thought was what you were making the argument about.

"because god forbid wrestlers are able to wrestle well by the time they're 40."

Jumbo Tsuruta at 50 carries a five star match with Misawa in 1990. Antonio Inoki in 1996 had a four and half star match with Vader. Liger's doing great now.

And even working remotely stiff, throwing better punches in a style that's dominated by punches, would help.

Here's your basic arguement, bps:"There are no highspots or brainbusters. There's no psychology, unless it's on Velocity. There are too many spinebusters."

I fail to see how highspots, brainbusters,or a lack of spinebusters can make a match any better. As for the "no psych" thing, there's a reaosn for that: The wrestlers suck ass.Not the style, the wrestlers. The style worked fine for a few years, until many of the better workers either degenerated or left. The onus should not be on the style to change, the onus should fall on the wrestlers to improve.

whoa...

you are saying that Benoit, Angle, Jericho, Eddy Guerrero, the cruisers, Lance Storm, Edge, Christian, Booker T, all suck?!

that is very funny.

and the style does suck.

Typical face win:

punch few times

whip

punch

trademark move

opponent hits finisher

kicks out because the ref is knocked out

becomes a no selling bastard

finisher

Typical heel win.

repeat the face style except for using a weapon or some one interfering, and the ref doesn't see it.

ya it would work back in the 80's and early 90's, this is 2002 and nothing has changed

I'm pretty sure the move was called the "Torito" or "little bull"... but Dorito sounds funnier...

"I fail to see how highspots, brainbusters,or a lack of spinebusters can make a match any better."

Well, the point of a match is to be exciting, pop the crowd and such. Now maybe you mark for 10 minutes of punches, followed by a spine buster and more punches, but that is boring television my friend. The "submission" moves are the sleeper and chinlock now, ever wrestler uses the damn spinebuster(we all know that when a move is over used, it can make matches redundant and repetitive.) Yes, adding a move here and taking away a spine buster would vary the wrestlers offense and make it more exciting. Yes, letting the cruisers do what they are capable of doing like highspots would add excitement to the crowd.

"As for the "no psych" thing, there's a reaosn for that: The wrestlers suck ass.Not the style, the wrestlers. The style worked fine for a few years, until many of the better workers either degenerated or left. Well, the reason that this argument fails is that we've seen all of these "Sucky" wrestlers put on much better matches with other companies and as soon as they step in a WWF ring something happens. The "style" that worked 10-15 years ago is not acceptable today. The style changes in every sport...it gets faster, more athletic, and more exciting...unless its the WWF style. They are wanting guys that are capable of amazing, exciting matches to do nothing more than to punch each other alot. Well, I'm sorry, but if everyone is struggling with the style, maybe it is time for the style to adapt to the guys you employ. I guys HAVE the ability to be high flyers, then use them as such. But the punchy punchy kicky kicky stlye is not only boring me, it is boring basically everyone envolved. Hell, JR starts breaking out the "bowling shoe ugly" metaphor, and basically, that show did nothing but feature the WWF style. A week later, they break out into some hardcore wrestling, some damn fine technical matches that look nothing like the matches they had been putting on (ie, WWF style) and turned out a couple of the more enjoyable shows of the year.

The WWF style puts everything at a even ground. Albert/Big Show has the ablity to be just as good as Angle/Beniot if they both follow the WWF style. All punches and kicks, a comeback here and there and a finish. Well, thats not how it should be. The wrestlers should be able to display what they are good at and separate themselves from the rest. If you want to see a card of the same match stlye over and over, well then go ahead. I like my wrestleing varied, exciting and enjoyable. I want to see Angle and Beniot pull out a classic because they can...not pull out a stinker because they had to be confined to a STYLE that needed to slow it down or what ever.

And yes, if you read the Ross report enough, they have made it clear that they want the Cruisers to wrestle the same style as the others.

"you are saying that Benoit, Angle, Jericho, Eddy Guerrero, the cruisers, Lance Storm, Edge, Christian, Booker T, all suck?!"

Nope,I'm saying the shitty main event (Cripple H,Undertaker,etc.,etc.) wrestlers suck.

"The "style" that worked 10-15 years ago is not acceptable today."

Um,the WWE style we see now's been in place since about '98.

"Well, the reason that this argument fails is that we've seen all of these "Sucky" wrestlers put on much better matches with other companies and as soon as they step in a WWF ring something happens."

Really?I can't remember HHH having better matches in WCW than his matches with Foley,The Rock,or hell, even the UT in the WWE.The Undertaker never had better matches in WCW than his matches with Shawn Michaels and Hogan has never had good matches unless he was in Japan, and even then it was because he dogs it in the US(well he dogged it,now he's just too damn old).

"Yes, letting the cruisers do what they are capable of doing like highspots would add excitement to the crowd. "

McMahon has the power to educate his fans about good wrestling by pushing Benoit,Angle and their ilk into the main events and letting them work, not just by putting spotfests with the CWs on TV.The crowd can,and WILL, get excited by good wrestling, not just highspots. The "Ricky Morton" formula of tag matches STILL pops crowds, after all these years,so why change it in favor of "Wrestler A does a big move, flip, flip,Wrestler B does a big move"?Fans still love good wrestling, they just can't get into these matches because the workers suck.Do I think the style of main events has to be changed completely? No,of course not.Wrestlers like HHH,if they were still able to work, could put out good matches using this style. But I do think wrestlers should be able to wrestle in whatever style best suits them,as long as it features good wrestling. Thus, the spotfests everybody wants to see shouldn't be shown all the damn time, because they don't feature good wrestling.

"Albert/Big Show has the ablity to be just as good as Angle/Beniot if they both follow the WWF style."

Here's the thing:Angle and Benoit can work the WWE style into their matches while still featuring smart wrestling, because they're good wrestlers.Albert and the Big Show can't.

"Hell, JR starts breaking out the "bowling shoe ugly" metaphor, and basically, that show did nothing but feature the WWF style."

He busted that out for one match:The women's match. That was all.

"I want to see Angle and Beniot pull out a classic because they can...not pull out a stinker because they had to be confined to a STYLE that needed to slow it down or what ever."

When's the last time Angle and Benoit put out a stinker?

"some damn fine technical matches"

When did this occur?

And cruiserweights don't have to work spot fests. Lucha Libre, which gets mucho (ignorant?) criticism on this board for being flippy floppy works a stiffer, more mat based style than the WWE does now but knows how to let p for the highspots. Eddie Guerrero took a very spotty Super Sloppy at the first ROH show and reigned him in for ***1/2 match, as good as any non-singles gimmick match has been in the WWE in almost two years despite only getting 12 minutes, and they still showed off highspots. Cruiserweights have their own niche in wrestling.

I disagree has well. It was by no means terrible, but it wasn't has great as most are making it out to be. Rey can do alot better, it's just that the WWE probably won't let him.
