Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted July 28, 2002 The nine miners have been rescued after 75 hours, all are expected to make a full recovery. With all the terrible news recently it's nice to see a story with a happy ending. This was truly a miracle.
Guest Invader3k Report post Posted July 28, 2002 I know this sounds jaded...and it's good for them that they got out alive...I'm happy for them, but at the same time, with the way the media has shoved this story down our throats, I don't really care. Guest Retro Rob Report post Posted July 28, 2002 I know this sounds jaded...and it's good for them that they got out alive...I'm happy for them, but at the same time, with the way the media has shoved this story down our throats, I don't really care. I know. Especially seeing how NBC News interrupted part of The Best of Mike Myers special last night. </sarcasm> How can you not care that 9 men who were trapped over 200 feet under the ground for 3 days actually survived the ordeal. Not only is that jaded, it is seriously fucked up.
Guest Cancer Marney Report post Posted July 28, 2002 Add me to the seriously fucked-up list. A nice little story in the county newspaper, maybe. But making the front pages of the national news day after day? Please. It's nine people. Nine. Nine miners. No one has ever cared about them before and no one will ever care about them again. 14 stories on CNN, a special report about the "miracle," a photo gallery, a timeline, half a dozen diagrams, and three video interviews? Give me a goddamn break.
Guest Retro Rob Report post Posted July 28, 2002 I agree that the media did go too far with this whole ordeal, but nonetheless, how can you not care that 9 people narrowly escaped death? Even though they were miners and we will never see them again, it's nice to know that they didn't die of dehydration and/or hypothermia 200 feet under the ground. Guest Cancer Marney Report post Posted July 28, 2002 So 9 people narrowly escaped death. Hurrah. Yesterday, 83 people didn't. Today, 14 were nailed right on the nose. Death's aim seems to be getting better - she has a history of hitting exactly on par, sooner or later. We're probably going to war with Iraq in the next few months. The House recently gave the President TPA. Chris Smith (R-NJ) is just fine with using bankruptcy courts to protect criminals if they have a noble cause, like oh say firebombing abortion clinics. And you want me to care about a handful of miners? They can't even speak the King's English. "Please just get me up out of here?" Was sixth grade their senior year? Guest bob_barron Report post Posted July 29, 2002 Thats great all nine survived. But no we can't happy cause a bad thing happened. Some of you are fucked up
Guest Cancer Marney Report post Posted July 29, 2002 Sure you can be happy. I just don't care. It has no impact on me and it will have no impact whatsoever on the world. Does it blow up your skirt? Great. Give blowjobs to all nine. I - don't - care.
Guest DragonflyKid Report post Posted July 29, 2002 I find it silly that the word miracle has been thrown around so much. The miners had to go through hard circumstances but they didn't persevere where others would have perished as if "God" chose them to survive instead of killing them off. The human body can endure alot and it doesn't seem like the miners had to go through anything that they couldn't handle with some luck to the point it was miraculous. At the same time the miners were trapped over 80 people died at an air show in the Ukraine, I think it's absurd to believe a god would hand out a "miracle" to miners who got burned by a bad map while having a bunch of innocent people who went somewhere for entertainment die in a fireball. Why the hell are the miners thanking "God" when this same god supposedly got them in the damn mess in the first place? It's like all those loons who get in a car crash, get seriously injured but still thank God because they survived.
Guest Cancer Marney Report post Posted July 29, 2002 I remember Tom once said that he'd like to see someone blaming God for a disaster instead of thanking him for a lucky break. I'd like to see that too. His example was something like, "Man, I would've hit that curveball, but Jesus made me miss!" Thus: "Jesus sure is a bastard for making us break into that flooded mine!" Incidentally, for all the crap about "miracles," why hasn't anyone noted that it seems to have been the miners' own stupidity and incompetence that got them into the fix in the first place? Anyone think they'll be presented with the bill for the rescue, which all of them put together could probably never pay in ten lifetimes? No? How shocking... Guest Ram Report post Posted July 29, 2002 I..really..do not care. The whole nine miners thing is fine to hear a short story on CNN once, but after that, its not that big a deal. More kids get lost at the mall and miraculously come back to their parents. Woopty-fucking-doo. It's good that they're okay, but it shouldn't be worth 75% of a news channel. They'll all probably get awards or something, presented by Bush. And then we'll move on to the next tax raise, car chase, or scandal. Yay.
Guest Retro Rob Report post Posted July 29, 2002 Ok. Let me get set something straight here, I could give a damn about god and miracles. I just thought it was nice that those people didn't die under the ground.
Guest X briar rose X Report post Posted July 29, 2002 Incidentally, for all the crap about "miracles," why hasn't anyone noted that it seems to have been the miners' own stupidity and incompetence that got them into the fix in the first place? - Marney I see someone failed to read into the whole thing. The miners had a bad map. It showed that the old mine shaft was hundreds of feet away, when it was really right there. Yes, it's the miners' fault for not being able to mind-meld with the stone and figure out that the fricken map was wrong. I'm glad they made it out, and I personally think it's a bright change in the news to see a rescue instead of another death, another bombing, or another kidnapping. Guest Cancer Marney Report post Posted July 29, 2002 Fair enough. Nope, I didn't read the whole thing because I really couldn't care less about it. As for the "bright change," I'd rather see newsworthy items in the news than small-town feel-good crap, but whatever. Like I said, swoon over it if you want, but don't expect me to follow suit, don't try to pretend you're a better person just because you do, and don't try to pretend it makes a difference. I won't, you aren't, and it doesn't.
Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted July 29, 2002 OK, Marney this story doesn't interest you and that's fine. Why do you keep posting in this thread if you don't care.

Guest Some Guy Report post Posted July 29, 2002 Apparently a handful of confused priests made a special trip to PA. They heard 9 "mine(o)rs were trapped in a cave. Buh dump bump *ching* Thank you I'll be here all night. Seriouslt though it is good that those guys got saved adn got their chewing tobacco. I just wonder why they were calling it a "miracle." Last time I checked the guys got trapped in fucking cave. Where was God when the walls crashed in?
Guest Cancer Marney Report post Posted July 29, 2002 Ha ha ha! Yes, that was awful, but it still made me laugh.
Guest jimmy no nose Report post Posted July 30, 2002 The whole rescuing them all and everyone surviving thing is good, but here in Pittsburgh they had almost hourly updates on every station that shows the news for the whole 3 days. They're still totally overcovering this story. At one point they cut out the end of 3 different prime time shows. I know they were reruns, but still I hadn't seen them and it wasn't like there was big news or anything. They cut in to every single show to say "The situation with the miners is looking about the same as it was at last update, but there is still hope for survival". That'd be nice if they put it on after a show had ended and it lasted about 20 seconds rather than 10 minutes.
Guest Retro Rob Report post Posted July 30, 2002 Last time I checked the guys got trapped in fucking cave. Where was God when the walls crashed in? You hit the nail right on the head. I hate it when something horrible happens to let's say 500 people, two people survive and everyone is thanking God that those two people pulled through. Where was God for the other 498 people? Did he not think that they were worthy to live any longer? That is why I like to leave this "God" character out of these types of situations. Hell, I leave him out of every facet of my life. It's the same narcissism that leads people to say God bless America as if this god would give America prosperity and military power while cursing other countries with poverty and chaos. Guest J*ingus Report post Posted July 31, 2002 I think Anton Lavey actually had a good point when he said something along the lines of, "Of course people who have prospered love God. He's been good to them. But the stupid part is how people who've had hard times still remain faithful. ‘Oh Lord, I know that you killed my daughter and she's now rotting in the grave, but that's okay because you were just testing me.' Feh."
