Guest saturnmark4life Report post Posted July 29, 2002 I'm not the biggest fan of X8, and i braved it for a second time the other night, and whilst ovbiously the crowd heat for rock hogan made it special i think christian/DDP was the match that entertained me the most out of all of them. booker/edge was solid, kane/angle was ok with a blown finish, RVD/regal was sloppy and didn't click, and the main was a heatless foregone conclusion. But these two went into the arena with no heat whatsoever and the fans were really getting into it by the end, rallying behind DDP. Page has recently spoken out against the stalker angle and said working with guys like christian gave him an opportunity to show the fans he could still go. Guest Incandenza Report post Posted July 29, 2002 I liked that DDP/Christian match, too, but it was too friggin' short. I haven't seen it since first aired, but wasn't it only six or seven minutes long?
Guest BionicRedneck Report post Posted July 29, 2002 Flair/Taker was better, IMO
Guest Incandenza Report post Posted July 29, 2002 I only saw it once and that was several months ago, but I don't recall thinking any match was better than ***, ***1/4 at most, and only a couple of those were that good to begin with. Still, outside of the horrendous tag title match, Wrestlemania X-8 was entertaining enough, but I wouldn't call it a good PPV. In other words, I'll go the Rick Scaia route and give it a solid thumbs-in-the-middle.
Guest bob_barron Report post Posted July 29, 2002 Christian v. DDP was good but had too many called spots. But DDP looked so happy being there- that made me smile. I loved Taker v. Flair- I haven't been that emotionally into a match for a long ass time. I give it ****.
Guest BionicRedneck Report post Posted July 29, 2002 Id say more like ***. Great effort from Flair at his age, but was there any real need for Taker to beat up Flair and Arn??
Guest bob_barron Report post Posted July 29, 2002 It was to get Taker over as an asskicking remorseless fuckheaded heel. That match had me rooting hardcore for Flair and going crazy for every comeback. And when AA came in- I started screaming: 4 HORSEMEN! and just screaming stuff and going crazy. I totally missed him getting beat up. When Deadman won I was all upset and cursing and hitting my friends with stuff. And I picked him to win in our WM pool. Guest BionicRedneck Report post Posted July 29, 2002 hmmm, I would have just prefered an old school war, rather than "lets make Taker look Badass". But, what a spinbuster by Arn
Guest Incandenza Report post Posted July 29, 2002 But, what a spinbuster by Arn The timing was perfect on it, wasn't it? Taker's heading for the ropes, and in pops Arn with the Spinebuster in one fluid motion. Neither man missed a beat.
Guest thebigjig Report post Posted July 29, 2002 Yeah I gotta agree, Taker/Flair was the match of the night. Looking back, it seems that the whole angle leading up to the match, as well as the match itself, was the only thing the WWF did right. Also looking back, I think it should've been Rock vs. Flair instead of Rock vs. Hogan
Guest the 1inch punch Report post Posted July 29, 2002 DDP/Christian was too short, but i'm a Christian mark, what do i know
Guest saturnmark4life Report post Posted July 29, 2002 i'm a christian mark i'll admit, and obviously it was a meaningless undercard match, i just preferred it to taker/flair. I hated taker/flair personally, though the spinebuster and superplex were awesome.
Guest Incandenza Report post Posted July 29, 2002 I'm surprised I liked Taker/Flair as much as I did, considering it was mostly 18 minutes of punching. Still, they told a good story, so *** from me.
Guest Youth N Asia Report post Posted July 29, 2002 I enjoyed Mania X8 the whole way through...except Austin/Hall With Christian/DDP I didn't care who won really...I am a HUGE Christian mark, but I was just glad to see DDP in the WWF that I would have been happy if he won. Good match but I was disapointed that that's where they finished the angle...I think had it gone on it could have been pretty good.
Guest Just call me Dan Report post Posted July 29, 2002 But DDP looked so happy being there- that made me smile. He sure did. I really will never forgive the WWE/Taker for squashing the man's career like they did. He worked so hard and deserved his status only to have his legacy trampled upon. It is inexcusable to have a guy like that who was a top tier worker and a very over face before entering WWE to be remembered by most casual fans as a stalker who got his ass kicked by a woman and went to become a smiling jackass who wrestled Christian 39,124 times and retired. Fucking bullshit. He never got the good run. You can't tell me watching KOTR and then the Cage Match with DDP/Kanyon vs Taker/Kane doesn't make you absolutely sick. DDP/Chrisitan match of the night? No. It flowed the best and was a great accomplishment because it was a lot more than it should have been, but the bust-ass natue of the Flair/Taker match and the sheer aura Hogan/Rock posessed made them better. You wouldn't be entirely wrong though, I could see that matched labeled as the better of all of them in a way.

Yeah, I remember just shaking my head in disbelief the entire time while watching the cage match. It really put a black eye on an other wise great ppv.
