Guest raptor Report post Posted July 30, 2002 The Smartmarks Comic News Report Soundtrack: Red Hot Chili Peppers, By The Way. Chillingly melodic. The best of their career thus far. Marvel Comics: Double Shot launches in November Here’s details on the four issue Marvel Double Shot debuting in November: - It is an anthology series with two self-contained Marvel Universe stories by two different creators. Joe Jusko will provide covers. -Issue #1 features The Incredible Hulk written, pencilled, and inked by Rob Haynes (Daredevil: Ninja); and Thor by Marlan Harris and Kia Asamiya (Silent Mobius, Steam Detectives). -Issue #2 features Doctor Doom by Christopher Priest (Black Panther, Deadpool) and Paolo Rivera; and The Avengers by The Bongo Comics Crew (Simpsons Comics). -Issue #3 features Fantastic Four Jai Nitz and Gurirhiro Studios; and Ant-Man by Sean McKeever and Darwyn Cook (Catwoman) -Issue #4 features Iron Man by Greg Rucka (Detective Comics, Spider-Man’s Tangled Web); and Doctor Strange by Michael T. Gilbert. Essential Tomb of Dracula cancelled Joe Quesada, quoted from Lying in the Gutters: "When we looked at the overwhelming number of TPBs that we were working on we needed to pick a few projects to take off the list to relieve a much exhausted staff. We looked it over and TOD was one of those to go because of the amazing amount of man hours it was going to take to put together, clean up pages and find missing material. Honestly, I had no idea it would have done so well, we just thought it was one of those that no one would miss. Well, never underestimate the power of the 'Essentials,' and never let it be said that I can't admit a mistake!" Comic Book Villains From Zentertainment: TidalWave Studios and Lions Gate Films unite for COMIC BOOK VILLAINS on DVD. Lions Gate Home Video and TidalWave Studios are cross-promoting the film, COMIC BOOK VILLAINS, directed and written by James Robinson (HAWKMAN). TidalWave Studios will lend its 10th Muse comic book property and others to the film' s DVD release. To add a comic book feel to the DVD menus, characters from the TidalWave universe will be featured in the backdrop. There also will be a hidden "easter egg" that will link to information about current TidalWave comic books. The DVD will be available in stores September 3rd. "A lot of the images are from upcoming TidalWave issues. This is a unique project in conjunction with Lions Gate. It should be fun for the public to have this extra added value to the DVD since the film is comic-related", said by Darren G. Davis, President of TidalWave Studios. TidalWave describes the movie as such: In a sleepy town, full of ordinary people leading ordinary lives, something extraordinary is about to happen. To some, comic books are a hobby, but for Raymond MacGillicuddy and Norman Link they are a way of life. Both men own comic book stores and both men are after the hottest ticket in town, a rare collection of old comics in mint condition, potentially worth millions to the right dealer. However, when the elderly owner won't sell, it becomes a madcap free-for-all with friend turning against friend in a battle for the loot. As the stakes get higher, their antics take a dark turn, and begin spiraling into a dangerous game of greed, betrayal and murder. COMIC BOOK VILLAINS stars Cary Elwes, Michael Rapaport, D.J. Qualls, Donal Logue, Natasha Lyonne. Lions Gate will be at the San Diego Comic-con this August, giving away posters, CDs and DVDs at the TidalWave Studios booth. 10th Muse #1 comes out in stores the last week of July from AVATAR PRESS. New Blade III premise From Dark Horizons: Comics 2 Film reports that writer/producer David S. Goyer looks like he'll be changing his ideas for a third "Blade" film which was originally a post-apocalyptic style story: "I'm coming off that idea a little bit. Because I know that they are working on 'I Am Legend' [based on the Richard Matheson book, on which The Omega Man was based]. I decided to tweak my idea... What we're talking about is actually having the vampires outing Blade and letting the world know he exists. They turn the tables on him, so the cops and all of the humans are hunting Blade. They think he's crazy and that he's a monster. The vampires are doing a PR smear on him". Battle of the Planets Fan Club From Newsarama: Readers and/or completionists of Top Cow’s new Battle of the Planets series have will soon have a #1/2 issue to look forward to. The issue featuring a new story leading into the ongoing series by its regular creative team will be available exclusively by Dynamic Forces as part of a Battle of the Planets Dynamic Forces Fan Club Kit. In addition the #1/2 issue and an exclusive lithograph by Udon, the kit will also include the first issue of a quarterly Battle of the Planets Newsletter with news, reviews and features about the series (including an interview with Alex Ross) and other fan club offers. Rumor Mill/Quick Bits - John Byrne will never figure out that many people have stopped caring about him: Generations 3 will be a twelve issue mini-series later this year/early next year. -Scott Lobdell takes the reigns of Buffy The Vampire Slayer next issue. He will be joined in coming months by Fabian Nicieza. -There is a very interesting three part interview over at comicon.com/newsarama. He speaks on Youngblood: Blood Sport, his Marvel Tiltles, and the state of comics as a whole. Beware of The Ultimates and Ultimate X-Men quasi-spoilers in part II. -Hurricane Entertainment (Violent Messiahs) will be creating a new comic based on Escape From New York, called Jon Carpenter’s Snake Plissken Chronicles. -Mike Grell will be writing an upcoming X-Men mini-series. -Tom Peyer, author of the worst Punisher arc ever, will be writing an issue of X-Men Unlimited. -Stormwatch #4 will guest-star The Authority. -David Finch may take over Ultimate X-Men when Mark Millar leaves. -Christopher Priest and Sal Velluto may be working on an Ultimate title. -Sal Larroca plan to bring both Psylocke and Collosus back in the pages of X-Treme X-Men. Joe Quesada is supposedly blocking such an act. Some information gathered from Newsarama, “Lying in the Gutters” at cbr.cc, and “All The Rage” at Silver Bullet Comics Feedback is welcome at [email protected] P.S. Also, I am only purchasing two comics this week (DK Strikes Again 2 #3, and X-Men Unlimited #37), and will be placing them into next weeks reviews, which have a plethora of new comics. Guest areacode212 Report post Posted July 30, 2002 That Double Shot thing sounds delicious, even better than the similar DC project that was announced. Priest on Doctor Doom? (I wonder if this will be light-hearted or serious) The Bongo crew on Avengers? Darwyn Cooke/Greg Rucka on anything? Sucks that I have to wait until November for it. Maybe a little too cerebral for a Blade movie, but an interesting concept nonetheless... -Scott Lobdell takes the reigns of Buffy The Vampire Slayer next issue. He will be joined in coming months by Fabian Nicieza. The X-Men Dream Writing Team reunite! But I'm still not gonna buy the book... -There is a very interesting three part interview over at comicon.com/newsarama. He speaks on Youngblood: Blood Sport, his Marvel Tiltles, and the state of comics as a whole. Beware of The Ultimates and Ultimate X-Men quasi-spoilers in part II. Yep. There's gonna be Ultimate versions of Artie, Leech and M-Squad. (This is not a real spoiler) -Hurricane Entertainment (Violent Messiahs) will be creating a new comic based on Escape From New York, called Jon Carpenter’s Snake Plissken Chronicles. Raptor, is this your new favourite comic company? -Mike Grell will be writing an upcoming X-Men mini-series. Screw that. Make him write some new Warlord stories for DC... -Tom Peyer, author of the worst Punisher arc ever, will be writing an issue of X-Men Unlimited. It should be better than Punisher. He was one of the better writers on Legion of Super-Heroes/Legionaires, so a team book couldn't be that bad. -David Finch may take over Ultimate X-Men when Mark Millar leaves. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! -Christopher Priest and Sal Velluto may be working on an Ultimate title. At last - Ultimate Quantum and Woody!! -Sal Larroca plan to bring both Psylocke and Collosus back in the pages of X-Treme X-Men. Joe Quesada is supposedly blocking such an act. Did George Lucas temporarily invade Larroca's mind to come up with such a stupid idea?
Guest Vyce Report post Posted July 31, 2002 Sal Larroca plan to bring both Psylocke and Collosus back in the pages of X-Treme X-Men. Joe Quesada is supposedly blocking such an act. Good for Joe. I'm soooooo tired of characters returning from the dead. And if there's one thing we don't need, it's to bring back more MUTANTS.
Guest areacode212 Report post Posted July 31, 2002 -Tom Peyer, author of the worst Punisher arc ever, will be writing an issue of X-Men Unlimited. It should be better than Punisher. He was one of the better writers on Legion of Super-Heroes/Legionaires, so a team book couldn't be that bad. I don't know, Peyer wrote the Legion books at a pretty low time in their history. He was definitely better than the other main LSH writer at the time (Roger Stern), but IMO, most of his stories were just bland & unmemorable. -David Finch may take over Ultimate X-Men when Mark Millar leaves. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! Is that reaction due to Finch coming in, or Millar moving out? Who is David Finch anyway? At first, I was like, "the director of Fight Club is writing comics now?"

At first, I was like, "the director of Fight Club is writing comics now?" A bit of both. I haven't read too much of Finch's stuff (due to my personal boycott of Top Cow) but it's not particularly memorable.
