Come on...Mikey kicked his ass the entire summer/fall of 95 and took his belt...Sandman didn't beat Mikey 1 on 1 in the rematch. #2 Shane Douglas vs. #7 Terry Funk -Douglas...sorry old timer #3 Raven vs. #11 Jerry Lynn -Raven #4 Taz vs. #5 Mike Awesome -Taz...Taz vs Awesome in 1 on 1 matches: 1-0 On a side note...Sandman as a 1 ranking is laughable...he should be behind Douglas and Raven

Guest JaKyL25 Report post Posted July 30, 2002 As far as giving Sandman the #1 ranking, my top priority when considering the rankings was Number of times that each person has held the title. Sandman is the only 4 time champ, so therefore he gets #1. Others might argue Length of reign as more important, I just don't see it that way, ESPECIALLY when Douglas sat on his injury for 6 months as champ.
Guest Youth N Asia Report post Posted July 30, 2002 I wasn't implying title lenghts...what I meant was how important the title reigns were...Sandman's last reign was oh so forgetable...and the one before that was 5 years before the last one. I just never thought much of Sander as a champ.
Guest JaKyL25 Report post Posted July 30, 2002 I completely agree, but "importance" is somewhat subjective, and ranking systems work best IMO when based on hard data. Since this tournament is meant to ESTABLISH who was the most important champion, ranking them based on importance would kinda be self-defeating anyway. If others were more important than Sandman, they'll take him out on their way to the top.

Guest JaKyL25 Report post Posted July 30, 2002 Hell, I'm not a Sandman fan either. From what I've seen, I'd say that he has the LEAST amount of wrestling ability of any World Champion in any fed ever, outside of Russo, Arquette, and MAYBE Vince McMahon. Vince's "best" matches (vs. Austin, cage, 2/99; vs. Shane, streetfight, Mania XVII) were more entertaining than anything I can remember with Sandman, though I haven't seen a lot. Guest Redhawk Report post Posted July 30, 2002 Sandman over Whipwreck -- The Sandman was ECW's version of Stone Cold/Bubba Ray Dudley: Not a great wrestler [like Bubba], never left the main event after he got in [Austin], and ALWAYS, even in defeat, was allowed to keep his heat [bubba/Austin]. Shane Douglas over Funk Raven over Lynn Taz over Awesome

I didn't mean in their matches, I meant dominant in terms of noiteriety and fame. It's obvious Mikey was a better wrestler, but when I think of ECW World Champions, the Sandman comes to mind before Mikey
