Rock = Not Funny

I haven't laugh to Rock's promos since his skit on Billy Gunn, I think.

 

I've always perferred he Rock was in the Corporation, and give promos... that was gold.

whatever happened to main eventers who cut promos that put over the guy they're about to face? was foley the last of those?

 

rocky may have no qualms about making someone look good in the ring, but he doesn't understand that this also applies to the mic. the whole "i'm a badass who's way better than everybody else" personna doesn't put anyone over but the one who's cutting the promo. it makes everyone else look like a complete joke. and now the heels are reduced to deliberately acting like jackasses so that people like the rock & jesus on steroids can make fun of them. i don't care if eddie guerrero reversed the rock bottom into an arm drag, the rock made eddie look like a piece of crap on the mic. and, to paraphrase foley, the win did nothing for him, cause all he did was beat a piece of crap. to get the fans into a match, you have to at least make it APPEAR that you take the match seriously.

That was the worst promo Rocky has ever cut. I usually enjoy his promos...even though they make his opponent look like crap, they're usually entertaining, which is all I ask for. Last night's was forced and boring...I was like "We get the point Rock". Either think of some original FUNNY material, recycle the old stuff (which is about 50-75% of his promos anyway) or get off the damn screen.

I always thought that The Rock (as a face) is very overrated. His ring work leaves room for improvement (jobbing does not cement excellent workrate), and his mic work has become so stale and outplayed. The Rock needs to become a heel again, because that was when he was excellent in promos. As a face, he's just a dull and boring wanna-be heel.

I've noticed that for a while, I agree. It seems all the top guys of the last few years (Rock,HHH,Austin,Taker) become stale VERY quickly as faces.

 

They really need to stop this cut and dry good and evil shit. No one in the business seems to be as good at being a face than they aare as a heel. They turn face and get the crowd behind them and all of the sudden bore the shit outta me.

 

I've always marked for heels, but I think we can all agree that Austin heel 2001 is better than Austin (last run, and tired old Vince angle), Rock heel is much better than unfunny wanna be black babyface, and Heel HHH is oh so better than boring face HHH. Hell, Taker was shit until his tweener staus came about. He had to act like a heel and he then became one of the better champions of the last couple of years.

 

I just really don't see how the WWE can turn the Rock when he is so loved by the majority of the wrestling community, he's a big star, etc. I mean they could really lose a lot of money, or the fans may never hate Rock enough for him being heel to matter.

 

He needs an equal to rival him in order for his heel turn to work and I , for one, don't want to see Taker or HHH be that equal. But what the hell else would the WWE do?

The last time I completely laughed from the gut at a Rock promo, was his promo with Chris Jericho when they're both faces

The Rock's promo last night was pretty funny, but he has cut funnier promos. His promo with Lilian on Smackdown last August just before SummerSlam was even more hilarious. Then, there was the promo where him and Jericho were making fun of Stephanie McMahon. Now that was good.

I have been saying this for months and usually people tell me that I'm flat out wrong. Last night's promo was so bad I flipped over to VH1 One Hit Wonders.

Holy shit! I've been saying the same thing ever since about December of last year and no one believed me and I flipped over to VH1's One Hit Wonders, I guess finding out what the lady who sang "I love the night life" is doing now is more interesting then A Rock interview

I agree with "godthedogs"'s assement of how The Rock doesn't seem interested in giving fair mic time. It almost seems like the heels are instructed NOT to come back with anything equally as funny because it would hurt Rock's crown as "king comedian" A good example is when the nWo debuted and had a confrontation with Rock, Rock was making fun of Hall and Nash referring to them as Razor and Diesel and doing their old taunts, now if the nWo was being put over the right way, they would have easily come back with something referring to Rock's days as the Cabana Boy type character from his earlier days, and said how at least Razor and Diesel were OVER. Yet instead they just had to stand there and take it in order to make Rock look good. Just gabage if ya ask me

Well if you are talking about the overkill after the effect wore off, then I agree, but remember in the beginning of the nWo they needed to get over as a threat to the entire COMPANY, not just a current feud. So I thought it was ok for a limited time. The whole angle was that they were from another company and there to take over.

Although some Rock promos are enjoyable, I've yet to find one that's actually funny. However, the marks eat that stuff up, although I question if they'd still eat it up if Rocky was heel again. Then again, if Rocky was heel it'd be a moot point because then he might, ya know, get some new material that actually works. The Rock as a face is lazy as hell, and that's one of the reasons I dislike him so much.
