Guest alkeiper Report post Posted July 31, 2002 Sportscenter and Peter Gammons reports that the Expos have traded Cliff Floyd to the Red Sox for two minor league pitchers. Grade move for the Red Sox, obviously, that gives them another great hitter alongside Ramirez, Garciaparra, and Damon. Odd to see the Expos give up on Floyd so soon. Guest cartman Report post Posted July 31, 2002 Can you say....THANK YOU Montreal! They thought they could make a run at the playoffs but it just aint happening...so they are giving up on Floyd, Colon probably next to go tomorrow
Guest alkeiper Report post Posted July 31, 2002 I doubt Colon will go, since he's under contract for next season as well.
Guest Shaved Bear Report post Posted July 31, 2002 oh well, I still don't think Boston is gonna catch the yanks
Guest Phr33k Report post Posted July 31, 2002 Well, like I said on WDI, the Expos sucked with Floyd and his knees are gone to the point where he couldn't be a regular starter on the turf at Olympic Stadium.
Guest cartman Report post Posted July 31, 2002 Funny I just heard Gammonds say that exact sentence...
Guest Kingpk Report post Posted July 31, 2002 Pedro Martinez Ugueth Urbina Damn, Montreal is the best farm system the Sox have ever had!

Guest meanmaisch Report post Posted July 31, 2002 And so ends the miracle Expos of 2002.
Guest Phr33k Report post Posted July 31, 2002 At least they won't be gone. Remember: as long as that lawsuit is going on, the Expos can't be touched.
Guest Redhawk Report post Posted July 31, 2002 Weren't the Expos going through a bunch of red tape with MLB (trying to get more money) just so they could get Cliff Floyd? Then they finally get him and they trade him like a week later? Can anyone explain the reasoning behind that?
Guest meanmaisch Report post Posted July 31, 2002 Montreal has realized that they aren't going anywhere but down, so why bring Floyd with them. I think he's a free agent after this season too.
Guest Choken One Report post Posted July 31, 2002 Looks like NOTHING went down after this trade...I thought Byrd was going somewhere for sure...I do like how he wants to return to K.C however. It's a good call by both teams...Boston still contends for the W.C and Floyd adds some power.
Guest Shaved Bear Report post Posted July 31, 2002 I dont gert it, everyone accuses the Yankees of buying their championships, but every year the Sox get Free Agent after Free Agent...and Cliff Floyd
Guest treble charged Report post Posted July 31, 2002 Who says the Expos are out of it? They're only 6 games back of the wild card (right now it's the Giants, I believe), and still have a pretty damn good team if you ask me.
Guest Choken One Report post Posted July 31, 2002 the race for Postseason has gone down to 14 teams. New York Yanks BoSox Minnesota Twins Seattle Mariners Oakland A's Anaheim Angels Atlanta Braves New York Mets St.Louis Cards Cincy Reds Houston Astros S.F Giants L.A Dodgers Arizona Dbacks. Purist can bitch about Wild Cards but it allows Cincy fans to take note in Giants-Dback series because it will affect us. Only two teams are secure in the playoffs, Minnesota (whom all but locked the Central) and the Braves.) New York could wind up buttfucked. My IDEAL Playoffs would be New York Yanks Vs BoSox Minnesota Twins Vs Seatle Mariners Atlanta Vs Cincy St. Louis Vs Arizona.
Guest Some Guy Report post Posted August 1, 2002 I dont gert it, everyone accuses the Yankees of buying their championships, but every year the Sox get Free Agent after Free Agent...and Cliff Floyd Yanks $140 million pay roll, Red Sox (before Floyd) $108 million. I do think the Yanks buy their WS but do has virtually every WS winner forever. It's not like we're not trying to get a WS win here. I wish we got Colon, but Floyd helps behind Manny. Being in the AL will help his knees because he can DH. The Sox also got Bob Howery, some relief pitcher from Chi Sox today.
Guest redbaron51 Report post Posted August 1, 2002 i would like to see some one else but the Yankees win. Boston would be nice, but as you all know, its gonna be a back to back this year
Guest Shaved Bear Report post Posted August 1, 2002 there isnt gonna be a world series this year
Guest Kingpk Report post Posted August 1, 2002 there isnt gonna be a world series this year The players and owners know that another strike would be a crippling blow to the sport. They won't strike. Oh, and how is that Weaver deal working out

Guest meanmaisch Report post Posted August 1, 2002 Despiet being in reach of the wild card, the Expos would have to play better than San Francisco, Cincinnati, Los Angeles, New York, and Houston to get the spot. These teams are too seasoned and too talented for the Expos to stop.
Guest Phr33k Report post Posted August 1, 2002 Still, don't act like they're completely and totally out of it yet. They're only sort of almost out of it. How did you think the 'Spos would do at the beginning of the year? I had them at 77-85.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted August 1, 2002 The Yankees are takin' it this year, but 2003 belongs to the Cubs.
Guest Choken One Report post Posted August 1, 2002 The Yankees aren't looking very threating this season (although, they may be taking the L.A Lakers approach). The team that has the scary looks...Atlanta but it's nothing new. Atlanta is the LAST team Baseball needs in the World Series. Atlanta isn't THAT great a market, The fans are horrible. They have no appeal to America and no SUPERSTAR personality and are known chokers. All the other teams save for Houston has something to sell. New York Yankees-Biggest Market...Everyone else wants to see them lose. Bosox-Big Market, sentimental. Minnesota-Contraction to World Series Seattle-Huge Market, Popular Ichiro. Oakland- From losing Giambi to making it with Perfect Pitching. Anaheim-Shock team of year. New York Mets- Big Market. People want to see them lose. St. Louis-Overcoming personal loss of Jack Buck and D.K Cincy-Low-Budget team with Junior. L.A- Huge market, popular closer, Gagne. S.F-Bonds. Arizona-Defending Champs... Guest alkeiper Report post Posted August 1, 2002 If the twins wins the world series...that and if the Twins are going to be no more, who would look like the fool? If contraction weren't the biggest pile of bullshit the owners ever crapped out, that might concern them. Atlanta isn't THAT great a market, The fans are horrible. They have no appeal to America and no SUPERSTAR personality and are known chokers. How are they known chokers? You play a short series and shit happens. Besides, they never lost to a severely inferior team. And Greg Maddux isn't a superstar? Between him, Glavine, Smoltz, Sheffield, and the two Joneses, and you have 6 guys with at least a moderate chance of making the Hall. And I don't know about anyone else, but the LAST thing I need to see is the Mets in the playoffs again. Not because I hate the Mets, but because of all the media bullshit that accompanies them. Guest meanmaisch Report post Posted August 1, 2002 At the start of the season, I though the Expos would have won about 75 games. They are better than anyone expected, but that won't get them in the playoffs.
Guest Some Guy Report post Posted August 1, 2002 Atlanta is not good for MLB. They didn't even seel out all of their playoff games for Christ's sake. That's sad. I think the playoffs will look like this: East: Sox or Yanks, depending on injuries to Yanks (whether their starters and closer can come back healthy) Central: Twins West: Mariners WC: Sox or Yanks, the west will kill each other off. NL East: Braves Central: St. Lousis West: Arizona WC: Dodgers
