Guest treble charged Report post Posted July 31, 2002 This is by no means a list of the top Canadian bands, but I just want to gauge the opinions of other posters as to what songs they like, if any, by the following bands: The Tragically Hip Nickelback Our Lady Peace Swollen Members treble charger Gob Sum 41 Matthew Good Band There we go. If you can think of any other bands that should be on that list, then by all means, add them to the list.
Guest dilk bathoon Report post Posted July 31, 2002 The Tragically Hip - poets Nickelback - worthy to say Our Lady Peace - 2am Swollen Members - bring it home treble charger - hundred million Gob - no regrets Sum 41 - fat lip Matthew Good Band - indestructable
Guest treble charged Report post Posted July 31, 2002 Here's my take: The Tragically Hip: Ahead By A Century Trouble at the Henhouse is the only Hip CD that I own, and this song is the reason for it. Nickelback: Breathe Nickelback, before the overplaying began. Our Lady Peace: Superman's Dead This song has stood the test of time, as I have heard countless times over the past 5+ years, and yet, am not sick of it. Swollen Members: Lady Venom I don't like much rap or hip hop, but there's something about this song that I really like, I can't explain it. treble charger: Friend of Mine This changes almost daily, but as of right now, that is their song that I am digging the most Gob: I Hear You Calling Chalk this up to me not listening to them very much, but this is possibly their most well-known song, and I, for one, like it. Sum 41: Makes No Difference Half Hour of Power is much better than All Killer No Filler and this song just demonstrates that. Matthew Good Band: Hello Time Bomb I like a lot of MGB's songs, but this is probably my favourite out of the bunch.
Guest BifEverchad Report post Posted July 31, 2002 Just one for each?, or can I list a couple? Well... The Tragically Hip: Nautical Disaster, Locked in the Trunk of A Car, Ahead By A Century, Blow At High Dough Nickelback: Leader of Men, How You Remind Me, Breathe Our Lady Peace: Naveed, Superman's Dead, Is Anybody Home? (They're on Craig Kilborn tonight 07/30/02) Swollen Members: Bring it Home, Lady Venom, S&M Rocks treble charger: Red, How She Died, Friend of Mine, Brand New Low, Hundred Million Gob: I Hear You Calling, No Regrets, For the Moment Sum 41: Makes No Difference, Fat Lip Matthew Good Band: Deep Six, Everyone is Automatic, Anti-Pop hmm....I MARK for Canadian Bands. Guest redbaron51 Report post Posted July 31, 2002 its nice that he doesn't insert some of Canada's better bands... like Rush, Guess Who, Neil Young, and of course on of the better bands of today's music, the Tea Party The Tragically Hip: Great Canadian band, and really i would love to see them live. Favourite song by them is New Orleans Is Sinking and Fifty Mission Cap Nickelback: Eh...they were good up until there latest album which they went right into what was so damn popular. Leader of Men (i think) is my favourite song by them Our Lady Peace: First 4 albums were gold, but with Bob Cock producing there newest album, it seems like OLP are trying to sell out but can't. Favourite song is Naveed Swollen Members: Rap isn't my favourite but these guys are good. treble charger: Nori is an ass, music blows not my favourite Gob: look above Sum 41: Some Iron Maiden-esque in this band (harmonizing, dual lead) other than that not typically my favourite band or a band that i like, but they are die hard Maiden fans so that is some points above Matthew Good Band: Great two albums, but too bad Matt Good is a dick and killed his band. Everything Is Automatic and Strange Days are tremendous songs.
Guest starvenger Report post Posted July 31, 2002 The Tragically Hip - "Nautical Disaster", and that live "Killer Whale" version of "New Orleans is Sinking" Nickelback - "Old Enough" Our Lady Peace - "4am", and "Whatever" is growing on me. Swollen Members - "Lady Venom" treble charger - THEY SUCK!!! Seriously, though, I like "Red". Gob - "I Hear You Calling" is the only one that I can recall from them. I know they had another song where TDM was in the video, but remember much else from that. Sum 41 - "Pain For Pleasure". Matthew Good Band - Not really my favourite band, but I liked "Apparitions". Everything else sounded about the same to me. >its nice that he doesn't insert some of Canada's better bands... like Rush, Guess Who, Neil Young, and of course on of the better bands of today's music, the Tea Party You know, when I was living in Windsor, they talked a lot about three (OK, 5) local "celebrities" - Tie Domi (from Belle River), Darren McCarty (from Leamington) and the Tea Party (actually from Windsor). 2 of them suck. The one that doesn't scored a hat trick in the Stanley Cup playoffs. The other 3 that you mentioned are kind of off the radar as far as today's music scene go. Should they be there? Rush and Young, yes. The Guess Who, no. I got the feeling that they reunited just to show up Lenny Kravitz by playing their original (and far superior) version of "American Woman". Guest dilk bathoon Report post Posted August 1, 2002 unfortunatly it's true, the tea party do suck. they're like, the canadian creed or something.
Guest Syxx Report post Posted August 1, 2002 NO, no, no fellow Canadians, do not do this to me. I hate most of the bands listed but GOB is a band I not only worshipped from 95-2000, but have met. Trust me they are a shell of their former selves, their absolute peak was "Too late no friends" and if u guys have never heard songs like "Soda, "Lobster Boy", "Asshole tv" then pick up this album. They used to be the punkest sums of bitches, but unfortunately have sold out. Dont get me wrong their new stuff is alright, but they are nothing compared to what they used to represent. I wouldn't call them the Canadian Creed since they don't do Christ poses all the time. Just stick with Canadian Doors wannabes and you've got it right. Guest evenflowDDT Report post Posted August 2, 2002 The Guess Who, no. I got the feeling that they reunited just to show up Lenny Kravitz by playing their original (and far superior) version of "American Woman". I gotta disagree with you on this one. I didn't like Lenny Kravitz' version of the song very much at all, it was like he tried too hard to make it sound different, when the only parts that sounded different didn't sound very good in relation to the rest of the song at all. As for the Guess Who in general, they're one-hit wonders, but as for Lenny Kravitz' cover of that one hit? Not as good as the original... Actually re-reading your post, I think I misinterpreted you. Are you saying Lenny Kravitz' is better, or Guess Who's is better? If for some reason you think Kravitz' version is better, I'd like to know why, and if not, please accept my apologies for the misinterpretation.
Guest mister foozel Report post Posted August 2, 2002 The Tragically Hip-ahead by a century and courage Nickelback-how you remind (and i honestly HATE that "Hero" song) Our Lady Peace-superman's dead Swollen Members-fuel injected treble charger-brand new low Gob-i hear u calling Sum 41-in too deep and motivation Matthew Good Band-apparitions and like that guy said before if we were to add The Tea Party in here, my favoite song by them, (and the first one i actually liked) is angels, awesome song their new one is pretty good too
Guest mesepher Report post Posted August 2, 2002 The other 3 that you mentioned are kind of off the radar as far as today's music scene go. Should they be there? Rush and Young, yes. well, both have new albums out, but if its not on MTV its not worth buying..

Guest pearljamfan Report post Posted August 2, 2002 Im not even gonna list any song by any of those bands considering they are all inferior to Rush and Neil Young. I cant for the life of me figure out how you could leave off Rush and Neil Young. It just makes me sick. I swear to god half the people on this board know dick-all as far as music is concerned
Guest redbaron51 Report post Posted August 2, 2002 As for the Guess Who in general, they're one-hit wonders, . thanks for the laugh, but Guess Who aren't one hit wonders, probably in the states, but in Canada they are probably the most influencial band that has came out of Canada at first. and no the Tea Party doesn't suck, they have probably the most talent of this generation of Canadian bands, and they are hardly mainstream at all. Jeff Burrows is one of the best drummers that I have even heard and seen, hell i rank him up to where Neal Peart and Mike Portnoy as a great drummer. Jeff Martin may sound like Jim Morrison, but he's a good guitarist.
