Guest Black Tiger Report post Posted August 1, 2002 Its August and that means its PWI 500 time again, does anyone have any picks for the top spot? HHH: Missed 5 months of the 500 period Austin: lost several PPV matches and missed two months of period with his walkout Rock: a good possibility, only missed two months. Anyone have any other ideas? Guest Youth N Asia Report post Posted August 1, 2002 Well... Last year Angle was #1...but he's been out of the title pic since then. Jericho could be #1...he did have a 3 or 4 month title reign Maybe some Jap guy...they usually rank a couple high to sound smart. While I think puro guys should make the lists they seem to pick without reason most of the time... Won't be Rock or Austin RVD? He had a big year. I hope they don't do their usual bullshit indy snub...cause if there is any justice CM Punk would break the top
Guest razazteca Report post Posted August 1, 2002 Jericho because he was the 1st Unified champ Rock for beating both Hogan and Flair the usual Japanese guys but I think injuries hurt them this year so who knows maybe Muto Shocker will probably be the highest ranked Luchadore at around 20 something
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted August 2, 2002 PWI really likes RVD. I would not be shocked if he won due to Austin leaving and Angle winning last year. RVD will be top 5 for sure in there though...I would not be shocked if they plugged him in at #1. Either RVD or Angle. Jericho would have been a lock had he not been buried. I guess he still has an outside chance at it...if their magazine plays up the undisputed thing. My final bet: (Not accounting for non-WWE wrestlers) the top 3 will be: 1. Kurt Angle 2. RVD 3. Chris Jericho
Guest razazteca Report post Posted August 2, 2002 I think WWE will be represented by #1 Jericho Unified champ 2 RVD fan fav 3 Rock beat Hogan 4 Undertaker long reign as champ had matches with everybody 5 Angle looks good losing 6 Austin vs nWo stuff....What? 7 HHH beat Hogan 8 Hogan had matches with everybody 9 Shocker 10 Black Tiger 11 Puro hero or champ
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted August 2, 2002 They usually throw a puro guy into the top 3 or 4 don't they?
Guest bob_barron Report post Posted August 2, 2002 Remember when Malenko was #1? That owned
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted August 2, 2002 Oh...and since I have...you know...nothing better to do... This year could be the first year in the history of PWI that no one has finished in the top 50 every year. Jeff Jarrett is the only wrestler to be in the first...what is it...10 or 11? and make the top 50 every year. Unless they weigh his limited WWA work very heavily...he shouldn't make it. I don't care what you think...I find it interesting.
Guest bob_barron Report post Posted August 2, 2002 Whoa- Go Double J. Hmmm the list goes from August-July so he has an outisde shot. bps- bringing the info
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted August 2, 2002 Austin had it...and in consistently better spots than JJ until he missed practically the entire 2000 list cutoffs.
Guest bob_barron Report post Posted August 2, 2002 What about Benoit or Eddy!~ I hope Regal is really high. He had a good W-L record
Guest Your Olympic Hero Report post Posted August 2, 2002 Taker will prolly be #1 or some crap... PWI 500 is retarded
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted August 2, 2002 NEither Benouit or Eddy made the top 50 in 92...which DQd them Regal was 61 last year...so he's out too.
Guest J*ingus Report post Posted August 2, 2002 Why does it matter? The PWI 500 is halfway decided by titles won, win-loss records, and other kayfabe nonsense.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted August 2, 2002 Because it's there.
Guest TheHulkster Report post Posted August 2, 2002 my prediction 1: Jericho (He's had probably the best overall year of anyone) 2: Angle (he's had probably the 2nd most) 3: Nagata (It hasn't been a good year overseas, but Nagata has done well, so I see him as the token Japanese pick) 4: Edge (can't deny the man has had a really good year) 5: RVD
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted August 2, 2002 Edge won't finish ahead of RVD...nor should he. Regardless of that personal feeling...PWI has a hard on for Van Dam.
Guest J*ingus Report post Posted August 2, 2002 As for the token Japanese pick, it could be a few different guys: Mutoh: has held seven billion different titles over the past year, and won all but three or four of his singles matches that I know of. Also is top office guy in All Japan right now. His placement on the list will depend on how much HHH-style political backlash he gets. Chono: recently became one of New Japan's top bookers, holds the tag titles with Tenzan, has been wrestling harder since Mutoh left. Hashimoto: depends on how much credence PWI gives to the NWA world title pre-TNA, he basically won it from Corino two or three times before the NWA finally announced him as the official champion; also, he lost the belt on a screwjob. As always, he is the booker & owner (I think?) of Zero-One, and generally puts out good work. Nagata: as safe a choice as any, current IWGP champion and winner of the G1 Climax tournament this year. Has been solid, if unspectacular. Marafuji: the only NOAH guy I could come up with who would be a realistic contender, but he's been out with an injury for a few months, so it's doubtful. Kojima: like Nagata, a safe choice who wouldn't upset anyone, though technically not the best one. Naoya/Yoshinari Ogawa: just kidding. In the end, I'd give the highest odds for any one person to Mutoh, but have no idea who they'd pick if he were rejected.
Guest BionicRedneck Report post Posted August 2, 2002 Yes, i agree PWI is complete shit, but.... As for the token Japanese pick, it could be a few different guys: All those you mentioned will probly be in, but one who deserves it is.... TENZAN~!!!!!!!! a REAL MAN's MAN!!! Guest converge241 Report post Posted August 2, 2002 thetll give it to Angle and make a huge deal about 2 yrs in a row
Guest JHawk Report post Posted August 2, 2002 I think RVD has a shot. Remember, in 1999 they'd made a big deal about how Austin closed off the year strong and that was the only reason RVD wasn't #1. And you'd have to think that RVD's had such an incredible year that he'd be a favorite. If he'd have gotten the match with Jericho at Royal Rumble like they were building to he'd probably be a shoo-in. I'd like to see Jericho get it just because it would piss Hunter off. Guest Black Tiger Report post Posted August 3, 2002 The Puroresu pick will probably wind up being Jun Akiyama, he held the GHC from August-April. Benoit doens't have a prayer of making the top 50 this year, he missed 10 months of their period. The top ten will look something like this in no particular order. Jericho Angle RVD Akiyama Edge Rock Austin Undertaker
Guest Bricks Report post Posted August 4, 2002 I'll go with 'Taker. So far from the August 2001 - August 2002 span, he's... Destroyed DDP/Kanyon for Undisputed Tag Titles Beat Booker T Beat RVD for the Hardcore Title Beat Flair at WrestleMania Beat Austin at Backlash Beat Hogan for the World Title Beat HHH to retain World Title
Guest Ph34r Tha Leaf Report post Posted August 4, 2002 RVD Angle Jericho
