A DDR Royal Rumble

Recommended Posts

Guest CED Ordonez

For those of you that play Dance Dance Revolution, take a gander at this tournament format they're planning to do this weekend.

From ddrspot.com:

Tournament Breakdown: DDe Rumble

For this tournament, it will be held WWe Royal Rumble style, except 30 people will not be on the pad at the same time.  For this tournament, it's you win and move on, you lose and you're out.  For all participants of the rumble, you must register by Sunday, July 28, 2002 and have your music submitted by that date as well.  Every participant of the rumble will have "Entrance" music, and will be allowed to submit a 30 second music file or mp3, to be used as their entrance music (music can include anything from WWe entrance music, TV themes, mainstream music, commercials or whatever).  Music must be screened beforehand, and must not include any profanity or any disturbing lyrics / sounds.  We reserve the right to remove the sound file and replace it with one of our choice.  Once you are confirmed and registered for this tournament, you will receive confirmation and a "Random Number" of when you will appear in the Rumble.  Being #1 or #2 will suck for reals.  Your number is the time you will enter and go up.  People are encouraged to bring signs (WWe look alike signs), however we reserve the right to take any sign for various reasons.

RULES:

After the order is determined, players 1 and 2 will go up.  They will play a song that is predetermined, on my sheet and the person with the larger number of perfects will advance to the next round.  After that match, player number 3 enters.  Winner of that match will play player number 4.  After all 30 participants go up, a winner is NOT determined yet.  This will be a rumble with a twist.  I will implement something called a "Chip" system.  If you win THREE matches in a row, you will obtain one chip, and for winning SEVEN matches in a row you will obtain another chip.  After all 30 participants go up, the people that earned a "CHIP" will go up again (second chance).  After all the chips are used by all participants, a winner will be determined.

EXAMPLE:

Player 3 wins 8 in a row (obtains 2 chips)

Player 13 wins 3 in a row (obtains 1 chip)

Player 17 wins 3 in a row (obtains 1 chip)

Player 20 wins 3 in a row (obtains 1 chip)

Player 23 wins 3 in a row (obtains 1 chip)

Player 26 wins 3 in a row (obtains 1 chip)

Player 29 wins 7 in a row (obtains 2 chips)

This would be the scenario at the end of the Rumble:

Player 29 beats player 26, player 3, player, 13, player 17, player 20, player 23 for a total of 7 wins in a row

Players 3, 26, 29 are still alive because they still have at least 1 chip

Player 26 (has 1 chip left), plays against player 29 (has 1 chip left).  Winner plays player 3 (1 chip left)

And this will cycle until there are no chips remaining and 1 winner.

This rule is put in effect to prevent #30 to come up with an easy win.

Winner will be crowned the first ever DDe Rumble Champ.

Prizes:

Winner of Rumble: $40

Marathon Man: $40

2nd Longest: $20

3rd Longest: $10

4th and 5th Longest: $5

Damn.

Pretty interesting idea.

Makes me wish I didn't suck at the game.

Haha that's great. I'd never have the endurance for it, though.

Damn I wish there was a DDR machine near me, ugh.

Sounds like it would be an interesting tournament. If I could focus my state of mind on getting perfects rather than freestyling, I think I'd do pretty well. Too bad I wasn't in California, but I may propose a tournament like this on DDR Freak.
