Not a bad thread idea. The IC title has always been my favorite title. Anyway...

 

Of course, I'm going to over analyze everything, so instead of just giving the winners, I figure I'll explain why I picked them.

 

Razor Ramon vs Jeff Hardy: Razor was a solid champ once he won the belt in late '93, and from then until he self-destructed, he was normally involved in the IC title scene.

 

Winner: Razor Ramon

 

Pedro Morales vs Test: As much as I dislike Pedro, he was always a pretty over champion, while Test was just there with the title.

 

Winner: Pedro Morales

 

Don Muraco vs Road Dogg: Don really turned to crap after his IC title days were over, but while he was champ, he was just money, although he wasn't as good as he was in his pre-WWF days. I never bought Road Dogg as an IC champ, and didn't think he should have gone higher than the Hardcore title.

 

Winner: Don Muraco

 

Shawn Michaels vs Rikishi: I barely remember Kishi even having the damn belt, but he didn't stand a chance against my favorite IC champion ever: Shawn Michaels. He and Bret are the guys that got me so into the title.

 

Winner: Shawn Michaels

 

Tito Santana vs Billy Gunn: I never thought Billy was anything special, so naturally I didn't think much of him as the IC champ. Tito on the other hand, had some bitching matches with Greg Valentine and Randy Savage over the title.

Ultimate Warrior vs Marty Janetty: Now, if this was a best wrestler poll, then Warrior would be out, but he owns Marty when it comes to the IC title. Warrior was the champ for pretty much 2 years (the breif time that Rick Rude had the title is in the middle of that). Marty was only champ for a week or two, and while he could have been an alright champion, because of his wrestling abilites, he probably wouldn't have gotten to far because of his mic skills.

 

Winner: Ultimate Warrior

 

Mr. Perfect vs D-Lo Brown: Perfect was your classic heel champion. So many times you wanted to see him lose the title, but he always seemed to escape with the belt. D-Lo was real good, but Perfect is one of the better IC champions of the list, IMO.

 

Winner: Mr. Perfect

 

HHH vs Albert: Well as much as I hate HHH now, I always liked him in his IC title days (cept for his original reign). Albert was always a forced champ, IMO, since it seemed that JR was the only one behind him at all.

 

Winner: HHH

 

Chris Jericho vs Lance Storm: Storm was a welcome change when he beat Albert for the title last summer, and while he did a great job as champ, his reign was too short for him to be dubbed a great IC champion. Jericho on the other hand, has had several classic feuds as the IC champion, so I think this one is hands down in favor of Jericho.

 

Winner: Chris Jericho

 

Honky Tonk Man vs Marc Mero: Mero was quite entertaining as champ his first time around, but HTM is probably one of the most memorable IC champions of all time, and even though he wasn't too great in the ring, people were paying money for months on end just to see him get his ass beat. Gotta respect that.

 

Winner: Honky Tonk Man

 

The Rock vs Christian: Well, as much as I liked Christian as IC champion, he only had it for a month, while the Rock's career was really helped out in part because of the title. His reign was quite similar to the HTM's, in that he always managed to beat the odds, and escape with the title.

 

Winner: The Rock

 

Chris Benoit vs Kurt Angle: Angle is probably my current favorite, but he wasn't champion long enough to really be labeled a great IC champion. Benoit brought a lot to the title, and he probably will do it again this time around.

 

Winner: Chris Benoit

 

Edge vs Kane: Kane's another guy that I hardly remember as IC champion. Edge had some good matches as IC champion, but I think that most of his feuds that he had while champ really hurt the momentum he had going as a singles wrestler. Still, Kane was such a nothing champion, that Edge goes over easily.

 

Winner: Edge

 

Randy Savage vs Godfather: This one needs no explanation. Godfather had the title during a terrible time for the title, in which some of the worst champions of all time had the belt. Savage all the way.

 

Winner: Randy Savage

 

Bret Hart vs Ahmed Johnson: I really dug Ahmed as IC champ for a while, but he just can't compare to my favorite IC champion of all time, Bret Hart. I was totally into any IC feud that Bret had, and it's because of him and Shawn that I love the title so much.

 

Winner: Bret Hart

 

Goldust vs William Regal: Bob Barron is gonna shit a brick over this one. While Regal wasn't too bad as IC champ, Goldust's run as champ in 96 was pretty intense because everyone wanted to see him lose, and yet, it took about 6 months for someone to do it. He had intense heat all the way through his reign.

 

Winner: Goldust

 

Chyna vs Davey Boy Smith: Let's just pretend that this match didn't happen. Even though DBS's reign was short and uneventful, I'll never forgive Chyna for damaging the IC title as much as she did.

 

Winner: Davey Boy Smith

 

Greg Valentine vs Rick Steamboat: Steamboat is a god among men, but the truth is, his title reign was nothing at all. Greg on the other hand, was one of the best IC champions of the early 1980's.

 

Winner: Greg Valentine

 

Owen Hart vs Roddy Piper: Roddy was a fun champ, but he was really nothing more than a transitional champion. Owen had some great matches as IC champion, but even he wasn't that great as IC champ. He still gets the nod over Piper, though.

 

Winner: Owen Hart

 

Ken Patera vs Kerry Von Erich: Kerry Von Erich was a fun champion, but they had to get the title off of him so quickly that he wasn't a very good champion. Patera on the other hand owned before he became Ernie's bitch in Cell Block 6. He was a very over champ and he could back it up in the ring.

 

Winner: Ken Patera

 

Eddie Guerrero vs Ken Shamrock: I always liked Shamrock, and wanted him to win the title, but by time he actually did, his character had grown stale to me. I always liked Eddie as IC champion.

 

Winner: Eddie Guerrero

 

Pat Patterson vs Diesel: Diesel held the belt when he still somewhat gave a damn, but his title reign wasn't too long, and aside from his match with Hart at KOTR 94, I don't remember any good matches from his reign. Haven't seen much of Patterson, but I know he did more than Diesel did.

 

Winner: Pat Patterson

 

RVD vs Rick Rude: Here's a pair of great wrestlers, IMO. Rude's reign was just a little too short though, so he can only be considered a good champion at best (that and the fact that he didn't do much during it). RVD has had some stellar matches and feuds as champion, and I was looking forward to seeing some more matches between him and Benoit. Doesn't look like that's going to be happening, though.

Val Venis vs Steve Austin: Val finally got the belt as his character was just beginning to lose steam, and it was during the string of shitty IC champions, so he really had no one to take on. Austin was a great champion, anyway.

I know this is an opinion thing, but I see a lot of guys that were choosen based on their wrestling ability and such as opposed to their IC title run, which is what this thread is for.

 

And I totally forgot about Val's run as IC champ in the summer of 2000, otherwise, I would have picked him, since Austin won the title, only to be put out of action, return to win it, and then forfeit it right after.

WINNER: I'm torn. Eddy's second run was far better than his first, and on the level of Shamrock's, but it was shorter and he only fought one guy really. And his first reign kinda sucked (sandwiched in between Chyna and Gunn as champs, how can it not?) So I'll vote Ken Shamrock

WINNER: I have to vote Diesel by way of ignorance again. How good was Patterson in his day?

 

RVD vs Rick Rude

WINNER: Again, I'm torn. Rude was way over as a heel champ, RVD was way over as a face champ. But Rude needed the belt (and the win over Warrior for the title) to be as over as he was, IMO, while RVD needed the wins over Regal/Eddie to legitimize himself, he didn't really do much as champ, and I have the feeling that not being champ (and not even having the opportunity to chase it again now that Benoit jumped) won't bother the RVD character, but it SHOULD.
