Guest oldschoolwrestling Report post Posted August 2, 2002 It seems like they want to turn him face to wrestle against Brock. I hear at house shows they've been checking the crowd response by having him celebrate with Rock. But can he get over? He can wrestle and he can promo. But the fans are programmed to say "You suck" every time his music plays. And he already had a failed face turn last year. Maybe they'll keep him more of a tweener, since so many wrestlers are going that way these days. At least tweeners can face heels and faces.
Guest Shaved Bear Report post Posted August 2, 2002 well all they need is for the rock to start saying...instead of you suck, say an-gle
Guest BionicRedneck Report post Posted August 2, 2002 The only way Angle gets cheered is because of Patriotism. September 11th is coming soon, and i'm sure they'll use it (like they did last year) to get Angle cheers.
Guest Zack Malibu Report post Posted August 2, 2002 If they position him to be a bit more of a badass, "I can take you out with my bare hands" character, then I can see him over as a huge face. The problem with last years push is that they pushed him as "America's hero and savior" because of Sept. 11. If they let him be the Angle that feuded with Austin leading up to Summerslam (minus the kiddie pools of couse) on a consistent basis, he'll have his face status cemented in no time. Guest Nevermortal Report post Posted August 2, 2002 Ha, the Kiddie Pools. That was funny...to an extent.
Guest AndrewTS Report post Posted August 2, 2002 They need to change his music to help him along, too. Something that the fans can't chant "you suck" to.
Guest saturnmark4life Report post Posted August 2, 2002 he could turn face if say, they turned him face. just have him save a babyface from a heel beatdown or whatever. He was huge over as a face before sept11.
Guest cabbageboy Report post Posted August 2, 2002 I don't actually think a face Angle would work. He plays a smarmy heel better but he actually plays it so well that it programs the crowd against him. Besides people do not like being manipulated into cheering someone out of patriotism. Didn't work last year for Angle I doubt it'd work this year.
Guest mach7 Report post Posted August 2, 2002 Dear god I hope not - he's way too funny as a heel!
Guest BobbyWhioux Report post Posted August 2, 2002 They could make a face out of Kurt Angle, if they wanted to. I hope to God (and Allah and Buddah too, just to be safe) they don't, though. I think Scott Keith had a line several months back about how the "chanting you suck in time with his music is so cool that I hope they never turn him face again." I'm kinda of the same mind, in regards to Angle. For me personally, Angle is just too good at being bad to ever screw around with making him a face. Heel all the way, baby. Think of it this way: Angle as a face would mean no more talking crap about other faces, which means no more comments about Hogan and Shuffleboard. Do you REALLY want to deprive us of material like that?
Guest DJ Jeff Report post Posted August 2, 2002 I can see Angle successfully turning face. All the WWE needs to do is have him save another face from a heel beatdown, and go on and fued with that heel. I can see Lesnar beating Hogan's ass next week on Smackdown after Lesnar wins, of course, and Angle coming down to help out Hogan. It looks like we'll be seeing a Lesnar vs. Angle fued after SummerSlam, leading into a match at Unforgiven for the WWE Undisputed Title.
Guest Just call me Dan Report post Posted August 2, 2002 Do NOT turn Angle face, I repeat DO NOT TURN ANGLE FACE. The guy has a good chance of making heels credible once again instead of just pussies. He's getting clean wins and hard offense (minus the Hogan match) I'd love to see just one more heel at the top of the mountain.
Guest Shaved Bear Report post Posted August 2, 2002 while you do make sense dan, you are forgetting someone very important, who is now a heel and made out to be an unstoppable monster
Guest Raven_Effect01 Report post Posted August 2, 2002 The problems I have with an Angle face turn is that I remember last year when he was a face, most of his matches had him wrestling like The Rock in the same "Punch, punch, punch, signature move, punch, punch, punch, signature move, punch, punch, punch, signature move, finisher" style on most of his TV matches(though it can still be argued by some fans now even as a heel at times, though he remains one of the top workers in WWE today) and lost the comedic goldness that his heel character had and became a badass, sadistic(kiddie pool segment with Austin and singing), patriotic face which I thought was bland, and I think WWE should have let him keep the comedicness as a face, except use it on heels like Edge & Christian did the same year. His matches with Austin last year, though, were good, but the point of this post is if an Angle face turn would work, and I don't think it would due to last year's failed face run he had. Guest cabbageboy Report post Posted August 2, 2002 "While you do make sense dan, you are forgetting someone very important, who is now a heel and made out to be an unstoppable monster." I take it this is another HHH crack? If so I'm not sure if he is a heel or what the hell he is. He sorta turned on Michaels but yet didn't....ah crap I dunno. Since when does beating the shit outta Michaels make you a heel?

Guest BigPoppaKev Report post Posted August 3, 2002 We don't need Angle as a face. Look at last fall. I know the circumstances and all but it wasn't a good face turn. He didn't really entertain me at all. In the ring yes, but everything else no. He is the best heel in the company and needs to stay that way. Also I think guys begin to lose some credibility when they switch back and forth. Angle just doesn't need it.

Guest Austin3164life Report post Posted August 3, 2002 If he's given a chance he can probably turn face. Have him start winning completely clean over heels and faces, and that would make him a tweener/face. Then have him save The Rock or Hogan in one match and he'll be a face. Guest Special K Report post Posted August 3, 2002 Actually, he was getting really over as a face September 11th. He was playing a goofy, lovable milk-chugging chracter, who was still a badass in the ring. The fans, and the net were eatting it up. After 9/11 though, I guess they didn't think a goofy Angle could represent America, so they made him into a rather prickish, Rocky-esque face. I love Angle, but his cocky face character was SEVERELY aggravating. So it was the goofy face that actually got really over (while still being badass in the ring) and the cocky 'badass' character who made his popularity take a rather precipitous dive. Let him take a run as the goofy face again. As Mick Foley proved, if you can pull it off, the so square you're hip character can have a very close place to fans' hearts. Guest Smell the ratings!!! Report post Posted August 3, 2002 We've already figured out by now that Angle has two characters. Dick/Badass Angle, who's "cool" and INTENSE~!, making him just like, oh, I don't know, every other guy on the entire show. Mentally Retarded Angle, who, while still kicking ass, has odd traits like a milk fetish, wigs, and an extremly small hat. Heel Badass rules. We all know that. Heel Retard, while irritating at points, is hilarious. I direct you to the hat. Face Badass is a sorry combination of Austin and Rock, except he sucks. Face Retard leaves us with memorable quotes like "Milkamania is running wild" I forgot the 5th Angle character, Walking Symbol Angle, who only shows up in september, usually with a flag. Anyway, point is, Heel Angles rule. Face Angles make me want to roll over and die. Just personal opinion, obviously.
Guest El Psycho Diablo Report post Posted August 3, 2002 *ahem* Smark Commandment #213: Everybody should be a heel. Faces suck. ..at least, that's the way it comes off a lot of times. I believe that Angle could do a good face character, if they'd get the stupidity out of his character (as they are now). Have a little faith in the guy. Guest RicFlairGlory Report post Posted August 3, 2002 I think its fairly safe to say the only person who as a face, the 'net has marked for is RVD Benoit, heel Guerrero, heel Angle, heel HHH (when we Loved him), heel Storm, heel we often have tirades about Rock, face; Edge, face; Bradshaw, face. The only two people I can ever remember getting over as faces AND the net, are Foley and Austin. And with Austin, we all liked his heel runs more. *shrugs* No greater art than being a heel. Anybody can be at least a minor face. While the levels of Rocky and Austin as faces are as much an art form as being a heel, the role becomes repetitive, because thats what sells. You know I honestly think HHH is a face JUST to sell shirts.

The title run was more the 9/11 effect... and speaking of Steamboat.... FLAIR is yet another internet favorite who became popular from... you guessed it, heeldom. Guest DJ Jeff Report post Posted August 3, 2002 The reason Angle was face last year was because he was fueding with Austin, the superstar that turned his back on the WWF and joined the Alliance at InVasion. Also, Angle was part of the WWF, who were faces, and was fueding with the Alliance, who were heels, except for RVD. Anyways, the only reason the fans were cheering him was because he was against the Alliance. Once he joined the Alliance, he became a heel again. There, that's your reason right there, the most obvious reason. Oh, and I don't really want to see Angle as a face, but if he fueds with Lesnar, he'll probably be a face. Guest Ph34r Tha Leaf Report post Posted August 3, 2002 Have him make Brock tap to the Lock. The Ankle Lock goes over and Angle is cheered... ..meanwhile killing anything Brock has and they'll have to push him down the card. We're saved.
Guest RicFlairGlory Report post Posted August 3, 2002 Well part of what makes Angle great, is that he can play either role very well. Hart could. Flair can, HBK could (mostly because he was a very flashy face, ala WM12 entrance), Austin can.... HHH, flat out cant. Its heel or bleh. Taker cant, at least anymore. Its face or they pop for him anyways. Angle *has* the versatility, but does play a better heel. The oblivious to the crowd's true feelings heel he plays is great. I just dont want to have another Milk show, with Steph being called the Dairy Queen.
