Would it hurt? Some are just getting a bit over the top. They certainly aren't SPEEDING UP the flow of things. I've requested a banner, that's enough for me. Why do you need more than 1? or maybe a maximum total size? It's not that big a problem just yet, but now pretty much everyone is going to have a banner it might be time to regulate things. Just a thought...

I think this is a great idea. There's no need for a bunch of pictures in a signature. This is a message board, not show-and-tell in kindergarten. I have cable, so loading the images isn't a big deal, but I imagine it's hellaciously incovenient for those who use dialup.

I have a large sig pic only because I have SHITTY WebTv and I can' find a pic I like and just right click it. When my banner is finished I'll have that instead of this BIG ASS Kanemoto pic, but this was the only Kanemoto pic I could find.

 

I Do agree on limiting sig space though.

With all the banners now, you don't really need more than two pics in your sig (the other is for the CANADIAN ALLIANCE TAG~!)

i like sigs, they add colour, it's nice to personalise your stuff, but having a size regulation like (x)K or something might be an idea.

The only thing that bothers me is when the pics cause the screen to shift sideways or up when I;m trying to read a post. It's fucking annoying to be reading someone's post and then all of the sudden *swoosh* the screen goes flying upwatrds and I have to go find the fucking post all over again.

What about those of us in the SWF/OAOST/SCW/Other groups in the forum? I admit, I could do without my 'South Park' Annie, or in fact use it instead as my Avatar, but I really, really love the banner Nikki gave me, plus the other one is a Stable banner for X Force Nine, a face stable in the SWF (*cough*cheapplugatbottomofforumjoinnow*cough*). Would those people in certain groups who have sig 'tags' so to speak be allowed the tag and an personalized sig banner?

I hate when people have images that are so large in width that they push the text in the thread all the way to the right, so I have to scroll over to read each line. THAT is very annoying. Plus I'm on a dial-up and usually everything loads pretty quickly.

As for me, I'm really about to go and turn off all sigs, which pisses me off, because there are some worth looking at, but when the computer is still loading sigs and shoving the page around LONG after the text has all loaded... it's not worth it.

It isn't the number of images that needs to be changed or restricted. What needs to be done is a K limit to how much can be allowed in sigs and in your avatar, regardless of how many pictures are in there. Also, set a width limit, and that will fix everything for everyone.

All I have to say is that there should be a limit of 1... count them... 1 banner. I've been seeing people either with way..way.. too long of pictures in there sig or with 2 banners and it really fucks it up try clicking on the last post and then you end up in the goddamn middle of the fucking page.

There should be just a size limit on a sig instead of just pics. The words and stuff in the sig might be bigger than a two pic sig...

Ah. I can answer that one. You see, the size of the sig itself is barely as much of a problem as the pictures inside. Text does NOT take up a lot of memory... pictures contain a *lot* of data and are slow to load, whilst text is just a small bunch of characters that take up a few bytes.

 

So pictures are the problem here, not text.

The size of most people's banners here at SM is atrocious, makes the graphic look ugly as hell... resize it, it saves everyone trouble, and you keep your precious banner.

 

I don't see WHY people need more than one banner, too. come on now..

I turned sigs off myself a while ago, which is kind of sad since some of the smaller ones were amusing to look at. I've always written in my sig that I'm Anti Huge Sig, and it's true.

 

This is not a flame against the guy, but the worst I've seen is one of bps' sigs. I had to scroll past TNA ads, quips or quotes and a giant X-TREME CLOSEUP of some singer everytime he posted a one-liner comment in a "One and only..." thread. Perhaps he's changed it by now.

 

Big Ass Sigs make things hard to read, though.
