Guest CoreyLazarus416 Report post Posted August 3, 2002 The ONLY quality mainstream band? Aren't you forgetting Black Label Society? Are you calling BLS mainstream? They're not on mainstream radio, not on mainstream TV, and Zakk Wylde is never mentioned anywhere unless it involves Ozzy Osbourne directly. I'd say BLS is pretty middleground. As for my favorite openers... Sevendust for Megadeth Slayer for Pantera John Wayne's Severed Head for Toxic Narcotic Rob Zombie for Ozzy Osbourne

Guest meanmaisch Report post Posted August 3, 2002 I went to see Indigenous, a native american blues band. I'm not a fan of the group, but a bunch of us went to the show. The band that opened was a group called Rubyhorse. They were from Ireland and at first the crowd was indifferent towards them. As they kept playing, the crowd began to get into their music. By the end of their set, the crowd was very impressed. They were much better than Indigenous. I've yet to hear about Rubyhorse since, so I don't know if they are still together or putting out new work. They definitely were worth the money that was paid for the ticket. Guest Edwin MacPhisto Report post Posted August 3, 2002 I saw A Perfect Circle open for Nine Inch Nails a week before Mer de Noms came out. Great opener, and my first Maynard concert experience. Just this week I saw Sparta open for Weezer, and they honestly impressed the hell out of me. I was expecting At The Drive-In lite, but man...those guys can play. Really fricking intense. Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted August 3, 2002 Morbid Angel opening for Soulfly and Pantera ruled. Nothingface went on before Morbid Angel, but it was completely forgettable. No one knew who Morbid Angel was, and they were fuckin' killer. God of Emptiness, Summoning Redemption...Phil went on stage for a couple songs with them too. Was Down as good live as one would hope? Guest sk8420kid Report post Posted August 3, 2002 I've seen Sparta twice at Warsaw and opening the enlightenment tour. No one was giving them any applause or anything, and me and my friend thought we were the only ones appreciating it. I've seen Converge (most insane pit ever) open for Glassjaw, and Taking Back Sunday and the Movielife open for Thursday. Next week I'm going to see Dillinger Escape Plan and Tomahawk is opening so that should be good.

Guest The Amazing Rando Report post Posted August 3, 2002 I was in Florida...supposedly to see Alien Ant Farm (before they went big) open for Papa Roach (it was spring break in Panama City Beach) well the lead singer of AAF apparently got mono so they got a band from Miami to open...they were DARWINS WAITING ROOM....these guys fucking ruled...and I didn't stay to watch P-Roach play because I was going to Ozzfest later in the year anyways(which ended up being Coby's b-day) I recommend DWR's cd to anybody that likes the kind of music they play on the 2nd stages of Ozzfest... Guest JAxlMorrison Report post Posted August 3, 2002 Hmmm, let's see who I have seen Robert Plant opening for The Who: Plant does some of his favorite blues and breaks out few Zep tunes proving he still has his voice (Who=best live show i have ever fuckin seen, Townshend is still a madman and Daltrey has still got it) David Allen Coe and Dope opening for Kid Rock: Coe proves to me that I don't hate all forms of Country music as he proceeds to entertain the hell out of everyone in the building, Dope pulls out some moshing goodness and does an excellent cover of Fuck Tha Police

Guest nl5xsk1 Report post Posted August 7, 2002 I don't know if they count as openers, but when I was in High School I went to an Earth Day Show at UMASS, which the Beastie Boys headlined, but the bands that opened for them were Phish, Fishbone, and the Bosstones. In terms of the real definition of openers, I also saw the Bosstones about 10 times when they were opening for Murphy's Law, back when Devil's Night Out was their only album and Dickie didn't live up to his name yet.
