Guest The Son of Sting Posted August 4, 2002 Report Posted August 4, 2002 I can only think of three at the moment. I started a Joke - Faith No More (original artist - The Bee Gee's) This guys in Love - Faith No More (oa -
Guest The Amazing Rando Posted August 4, 2002 Report Posted August 4, 2002 i like Ozzy's cover of "Stayin Alive" and many by Me First And The Gimme Gimmes...specifically Wild World, Only The Good Die Young, Me & Julio, One Tin Soldier, and Stand By Your Man
Guest CoreyLazarus416 Posted August 4, 2002 Report Posted August 4, 2002 Metallica - "Turn The Page" (Originally Bob Seger) Megadeth - "Anarchy In The UK" (Originally Sex Pistols) Anti-Government - "I Disappear" (Originally Metallica) Iced Earth - "Transylvania" (Originally Iron Maiden) Soul Shed - "Larger Than Life" (Originally Backstreet Boys)
Guest JohnSkins Posted August 4, 2002 Report Posted August 4, 2002 I really like the whole tribute/cover CD in Iced Earth's box set "Dark Genesis". It's got Burnin' for You, Cities on Flame With Rock & Roll, Highway to Hell, It's a Long Way to the Top, Black Sabbath, Creatures of the Night, God of Thunder, The Number of the Beast, Hallowed Be Thy Name, Screaming for Vengeance, and lastly Dead Babies. Great addition in an allready kick ass boxset.
Guest Shaved Bear Posted August 4, 2002 Report Posted August 4, 2002 Metallica - Turn The Page Metallica - Die, Die, Die my darling Tori Amos - Raining Blood
Guest bob_barron Posted August 4, 2002 Report Posted August 4, 2002 U2: All Along the Watchtower Beatles: Twist and Shout
Guest areacode212 Posted August 4, 2002 Report Posted August 4, 2002 I like Revolting Cocks' "Do Ya Think I'm Sexy". Sepultura's cover of "Orgasmatron" was OK, too, but I'm split on whether or not it's better than the original Megadeth - "Anarchy In The UK" (Originally Sex Pistols) Nah, I think the original sounds angrier & snarlier than Megadeth's version. And Dave Mustaine got half the lyrics wrong.

Guest redbaron51 Posted August 4, 2002 Report Posted August 4, 2002 Metallica: Whiskey In the Jar (orginal by Nazareth) Metallica: Turn the Page (original by Bob Seger)
Guest CoreyLazarus416 Posted August 4, 2002 Report Posted August 4, 2002 Metallica: Whiskey In the Jar (orginal by Nazareth) Actually, it's by Thin Lizzy. Thin Lizzy took an old Irish drinking song and made it a rock song, and Metallica covered it.
Guest Celtic Jobber Posted August 4, 2002 Report Posted August 4, 2002 Nirvana's Cover of "Love Buzz" (Originally by Shocking Blue).
Guest redbaron51 Posted August 4, 2002 Report Posted August 4, 2002 i'm pretty sure it was nazareth that sang whiskey in a jar.
Guest Shaved Bear Posted August 4, 2002 Report Posted August 4, 2002 it was thin lizzy just checked the garage inc booklet
Guest redbaron51 Posted August 4, 2002 Report Posted August 4, 2002 then what the hell song did Metallica cover by nazareth then? (if any)
Guest MrRant Posted August 4, 2002 Report Posted August 4, 2002 Mama Kin- GNR (originally by Aerosmith) Knocking On Heaven's Door- GNR (originally Bob Dylan)
Guest CoreyLazarus416 Posted August 4, 2002 Report Posted August 4, 2002 Metallica didn't cover a single Nazareth song I know of. I just looked at the Garage, Inc. pamphlet, and the bands covered the most were Diamond Head and Motörhead. No Nazareth.
Guest SuperTonyJaymz Posted August 5, 2002 Report Posted August 5, 2002 New Found Glory "I Want It That Way"(Backstreet Boys)
Guest Kinetic Posted August 5, 2002 Report Posted August 5, 2002 The most obvious one--at least to me--is Jeff Buckley's cover of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah." Beyond that, it gets a little sketchy. I don't think Hendrix's "All Along the Watchtower" cover betters the Dylan original, personally.
Guest El Satanico Posted August 5, 2002 Report Posted August 5, 2002 Metallica's version of Turn the Page wasn't that good. The original was alot better. I'm just glad that no one claimed Eric Clapton's cover of "I Shot the Sheriff" was better then the original. I just hope that it stays that way.
Guest CoreyLazarus416 Posted August 5, 2002 Report Posted August 5, 2002 Actually, "Turn The Page" is the only Seger song I find to be truly weak. Excellent lyrics, but the music isn't ballsy enough at the right moments. Metallica put some testosterone into it where it needed to be.
Guest Hogan Made Wrestling Posted August 5, 2002 Report Posted August 5, 2002 Jimi Hendrix: All Along the Watchtower Led Zeppelin: any old blues song they did (You Shook Me, etc.) Eric Clapton: Little Wing Fear Factory: Cars
Guest saturnmark4life Posted August 5, 2002 Report Posted August 5, 2002 pretty much all the me first and the gimme gimmes ones that's all i can think of right now...
Guest EricMM Posted August 5, 2002 Report Posted August 5, 2002 Oh I hate that cover, but that's probably because I like the original tainted love so... I like New Found Glory's cover of "My Heart Will Go On" so it's de facto better than the original Goldfinger "Just Like Heaven" AND NoFX "Champs Elysee" (Sp perhaps)
Guest godthedog Posted August 5, 2002 Report Posted August 5, 2002 hendrix: 'all along the watchtower' beatles: 'twist and shout', 'long tall sally' jeff buckley: 'hallelujah' this mortal coil does an absolutely gorgeous version of 'song to the siren' that blows the original (by tim buckley i believe) out of the water.
Guest nl5xsk1 Posted August 5, 2002 Report Posted August 5, 2002 I'll probably get slammed for saying this, but I don't think any of Metallica's covers are better than the original. Everything off of Garage Days (the original EP when Jason first joined the band) pales in comparison to the original version. Turn the Page is a good version of a good song, but I don't think it's necessarily an improvement. The closest I can think of is Am I Evil, but both versions are wicked, so it's tough to say if one improves on the other.
Guest LooseCannon Posted August 5, 2002 Report Posted August 5, 2002 Manson's "Tainted Love" As far as Manson covers go, I think "Down in the Park" is by far his best one. But I never heard the original, so I couldn't say.
Guest DrainYou42 Posted August 5, 2002 Report Posted August 5, 2002 Nirvana's cover's of 'Plataue" "Oh Me' and "Lake of Fire" are much better than the Meat Puppets Originals
Guest evenflowDDT Posted August 6, 2002 Report Posted August 6, 2002 I like Everlast & Rahzel's version of "Children's Story" better than the Slick Rick original (although it's a really close call). I'm also glad I'm not the only one who doesn't like Metallica's "Turn the Page" better. It's a good cover, and the best cover on Garage Inc. in my humble biased opinion, but it's still not as good as Seger's. I'm another Hendrix mark, so "All Along the Watch Tower" and "Drifter's Escape" (although I haven't heard the original). Also, Drezzy, you've GOT to tell me where I can find that "Larger than Life" cover. It's my favorite Backstreet Boys song, and I always thought a rock/metal cover of it would sound particularly awesome. Just looked on KaZaA and I couldn't find it though...
Guest CoreyLazarus416 Posted August 6, 2002 Report Posted August 6, 2002 evenflowDDT, methinks you'd have a hard time finding it anywhere, because Soul Shed is a local band from Providence, Rhode Island...
