evenflowDDT, methinks you'd have a hard time finding it anywhere, because Soul Shed is a local band from Providence, Rhode Island...

D'oh! I don't suppose you could burn me a copy of the CD then, could you? Or possibly buy another copy and I'll reimburse you then you could send it to me? Or maybe make an MP3 of it? I'm really interested in hearing that cover... but I guess some things will never be... :(

"Megadeth - "Anarchy In The UK" (Originally Sex Pistols)"

too bad motley crue did that too

*scary*

my favorite would either be

"stripped" Rammstein doing Depeche Mode

or

"No Time to Cry" Cradle of filth doing Sisters of Mercy

or

"This Corrossion" In Extremo doing Sisters of Mercy

Gary jules cover of Tears for Fears "Mad World"

Nirvana "The Man Who Sold The World" Bowie's original was just too... Bowie, and that can be a very BAD thing.

Foo Fighter's "Baker Street"

A lot of Garage Inc.'s second disc. Most noticably for me is "Breadfan" and "The Small Hours"

Peter, Paul & Mary "Blowin in the wind"...

...kidding, kidding

Limp Bizkit's Faith is better than the George Michael version.

But that ain't saying much.

Ryan Starr's cover of the Kinks "You Really Got Me." Best. Cover. Ever.

Just kidding. Man, did she ever spread the lovely cheeks of her lovely ass and take a big, ugly dump on that song. No wonder they voted her off.

The original by Bad Religion isn't their best work, but I can't imagine I'd like the Sublime version better. An objective third party might think Sublime's version is better though, as the original song was written when the guys in Bad Religion were 15 years old and the recording has poor sound quality.

As long as you don't say you like their version of "Smoke Two Joints" better than The Toyes' original.... uhh, yea, shoot, I can't make blameless threats...

Also, I too agree that George Michael's "Faith" reigns supreme over any limp takers... I mean, it's a CLASSIC! Oh well, it could be worse, they could've tried "I Want Your Sex"

Aretha Franklin's version of "Respect" comes to my mind first. And I've always enjoyed the Clash covering "I Fought The Law."

Also, I disagree that Everlast's "Children's Story" tops the original. Maybe it's because I was a huge Slick Rick fan growing up, but I don't like any of the covers I've heard of his work (Snoop's "Lodi Dodi," Macy Gray's "Hey Young World," Black Star's "Children's Story," etc.). Personally, I don't think covering hip-hop records really works to begin with.

I dl a live version of Built to Spill doing Macy Grays " I Try" which beats the shit out of the original.

Don't get me wrong, I've got a LOT of respect for Slick Rick and I LOVE his vocal delivery, but I never liked the long "break-down" at the end of his version of "Children's Story". The one on Everlast's album is a shorter "break-down" with Rahzel's beat-boxing and stuff. To be honest though, I really hate the "break-down" anyway... it kind of takes away from the seriousness of the song. If there was no "break-down", definitely Slick Rick's would be tops.

Van Halen, "You Really Got Me" (The Kinks)

Van Halen, "(Oh) Pretty Woman" (Roy Orbison)

Rage Against the Machine, "Kick Out the Jams" (MC5)

Rage Against the Machine, "Down on the Street" (The Stooges)

Pearl Jam, "Leaving Here" (The Who)

Primus featuring Ozzy Osbourne, "N.I.B." (Black Sabbath)

That last one might not really count as a "cover version" since Ozzy just performed it with three different musicians than the first time.

Also, The Who recorded two Rolling Stones songs ("Satisfaction", "The Last Time") after Mick Jagger and Keith Richards were busted for drugs in a show of support. People claim these are the best cover versions of Rolling Stones songs ever, and I'm dying to hear them myself.

But really, I think The Beatles - "Twist and Shout" is one of the greates covers I've ever heard.

phish didn't do that cover of 'gin and juice'.

i'm probably in the minority, but i think mazzy star's cover of 'wild horses' tops the original.

Who did that cover? I like it quite a bit, and would like to know.

And Elvis's "Blue Suede Shoes" is vastly superior to Carl Perkins's

Rage Against the Machine, "Kick Out the Jams" (MC5)

Eww eww ewww! RATM's "Kick Out the Jams" is WAY too slow... it's one of the few covers on Renegades that I DIDN'T like. Unless you mean the live version that's faster and more like the original song, which is basically a "karaoke cover" as far as I'm considered. But hey, to each his own, right?

Blue Oyster Cult did a rocking version of "Kick Out the Jams" I havent heard the original though...

I'm gonna have to check out PJ covering the WHO's "Leaving Here" should be interesting because I really dig the WHO's version

As stolen from the phish.net FAQ ...

This song is not by the Vermont band Phish. It was originally done by Dr. Dre, Snoop, and a NYC hip-hop artist named Phish, and has been covered by a bluegrass band from Texas called the Gourds. The latter circulates on MP3, and is sometimes incorrectly labelled as by Phish.
