Guest BifEverchad Posted August 4, 2002 Report Posted August 4, 2002 Anna Kournikova's improbable run at the Acura Classic ended in the semi-finals Saturday with a 6-7, 7-6, 6-0 loss to sixth seeded Jelena Dokic of Belgium. Dokic defeated Kournikova in 2 short hours at La Costa Resort and Spa. Kournikova, who played with her left thigh wrapped, used the momentum from her first set victory and the support of the crowd to lead 5-4 in the middle set. She had two match points on Dokic's serve, but Dokic held on and forced another tiebreaker. With fatigue setting in due to five matches in five days, Dokic took a clear advantage and the decisive third in just 21 minutes. "Today the pace was much faster," said Kournikova. "I got tired when I finished the first set and couldn't get back". - The Associated Press Now, i have only one thought. Ok, Anna Kournikova is obviously hot but my lord, she constantly LOSES! When is Anna gonna catch up to her fame and play like a superstar that she is projected as..?
Guest redbaron51 Posted August 4, 2002 Report Posted August 4, 2002 hey she is making money by adidas and with Enrique Iglasis as her bf she's still comfortable. actually she has won a few tournaments...doubles that is.
Guest The Man in Blak Posted August 4, 2002 Report Posted August 4, 2002 Well, this is the highest she's ever gotten in a tournament, right? I think it's a good sign...I'm not sure if she's going to win this year, but it's still a good sign that she can actually play.

Guest redbaron51 Posted August 4, 2002 Report Posted August 4, 2002 she also reached the semi's at Wimbelton in 98 i thinik
Guest DrTom Posted August 5, 2002 Report Posted August 5, 2002 "When is Anna gonna catch up to her fame and play like a superstar that she is projected as..?" This might be as good as she gets. She's making a lot more money being a "tennis model," and succeeding only at the latter part of that, than she would being a successful tennis pro. On the other hand, if she were better, she'd be giving her fans more chances to watch her. I don't really care if she ever wins a major, since she's very easy on the eyes and her photos turn up just about everywhere.
Guest Vyce Posted August 5, 2002 Report Posted August 5, 2002 I don't even CARE if she's good or not. I'll put it to you this way - I don't watch tennis. At all. I watch when Anna plays, though. See the correlation? Anna + me watch. The Beasts that are the Williams sisters or Martina Hingis = not watch. So who even cares if she wins or not?
Guest Choken One Posted August 5, 2002 Report Posted August 5, 2002 Tennis really wants Anna Kournikva to start winning more contistantly. Yes, the Williams Sisters, Caprati, Hingis and Dokic will always outdraw any men save for Hewitt, Agasi and Sampras. The Williams are getting old hat now and Anna sells more tickets. She was good when she was 16...before she became the godness she is today. She will eventfully win a singles tourny maybe not a Major but something.
Guest alkeiper Posted August 5, 2002 Report Posted August 5, 2002 I find it funny that an "Anna sucks" topic pops up after she finishes high in a tournament. Just saying is all.
Guest Shaved Bear Posted August 5, 2002 Report Posted August 5, 2002 anyone who thinks people care about her for tennis ability is just plain naive
Guest alkeiper Posted August 5, 2002 Report Posted August 5, 2002 I care. When her tennis ability precludes her from major tournaments, it brings a Playboy shoot that much closer. :b
Guest Vern Gagne Posted August 5, 2002 Report Posted August 5, 2002 She isn't that bad. Sure she's never won but some people make it out like she can't even get the ball over the net.

When is Anna gonna catch up to her fame and play like a superstar that she is projected as..? Yeah, I've seen her play, and with all the nude photos Ithought she'd at least be good... But oh well. Hey, and if you've seen Jelena Dokic she's pretty damn hot too. (If I'm thinking of the right one) Amd I thought Annie was married to Sergei Federov?
Guest starvenger Posted August 5, 2002 Report Posted August 5, 2002 >But oh well. Hey, and if you've seen Jelena Dokic she's pretty damn hot too. (If I'm thinking of the right one) Yeah, she's hot as well. Plus I believe that she's won a few tournaments. >Amd I thought Annie was married to Sergei Federov? No, she went from Sergei Fedorov to Pavel Bure back to Ferdorov and then to Enrique. I'm expecting the tryst with Jacques Villneuve (who seems to get quite a few celebrity chicks) anyday now...
Guest Slingshot Suplex Posted August 6, 2002 Report Posted August 6, 2002 You know that the tennis association would LOVE for her to start seriously contending for and winning some tourneys because then the marketing machine would really kick in. She's not a bad player.....I'm pretty sure she's even been ranked Top 10 at some point of her career. She's just not on a championship quality level at this point as the Williams sisters and Hingis. It's too bad tennis isn't as rigged as basketball
Guest starvenger Posted August 6, 2002 Report Posted August 6, 2002 >It's too bad tennis isn't as rigged as basketball Tennis needs to be more sports entertainment. I mean, how much more interesting would it be if Serena turned on Venus during a doubles match or something? And we could have the Kournikova/Dokic bra and panties match...
Guest The Electrifyer Posted August 6, 2002 Report Posted August 6, 2002 Kournikova/Dokic bra & panties match would rule!! I have never watched a single game of tennis ever until I saw the Kournikova/Dokic match and DAMN, I'm hooked now.
