I read this article on lethalwrestling.com by Barbwire Mike (One of the best, funniest, no-bs writers on the 'Net) and here's what he had to say about the Messiah attack.

 

Gotta tell you, it’s been a long time since a wrestling news story has so captivated me I started seeking out whole new sources in hopes of getting the latest info as soon as it was available on the internet (I even tried calling a couple of people who might have some info, to no avail).

 

I first saw the news on our forum this morning, and started hitting the news sites. I’ll let Bob Barnett tells us the next part:

 

 

CZW/EPIC wrestler Messiah stabbed and beaten

 

 

Messiah was stabbed and beaten at his home last night. He also apparently had part of his thumb cut off. The Los Angeles County Sheriffs are investigating and apparently have several leads.

 

Because of the situation, Gary Yap, EPIC owner, was unable to deliver a new show to KJLA tonight.

 

Messiah works for EPIC in southern California, and CZW in the Philadelphia area.

 

Messiah had recently gone public over his affair with XPW owner Rob Black's wife, Lizzy Borden after New Jack talked about it on the first EPIC show.

For those who don’t know, “The Messiah” has been one of the stars of XPW basically since their inception, and in terms of “home grown” talent he’s really the guy they could always stick in the face of anyone claimed they were nothing more than “weekend warriors” trying to shock people into watching. That’s not to say that he’s famous for his mat work, however… because the guy is a FUCKING LUNATIC IN THAT RING! All three years of the company’s “King of the Death Match” tapes involved him in the most memorable moments. And his feud with long-time rival “Supreme” has always been among the top angles there. Recently, he left the company… and to say it was on “good terms” would be… well, it would be flat-out wrong.

 

And with that, the same thought popped into my head that immediately crossed the minds of every single person who even knows who Messiah is (even those that won’t admit it):

 

“Oh shit, Rob Black did this”.

 

Now I’m *not* saying Black had anything to do with this. I’m an entire country away and the only person I know involved in wrestling on that side of the country isn’t really a fan of me anymore. Making false accusations without knowing the facts is unprofessional, and can often result in serious legal repercussions for those who maliciously impugn someone’s reputation (although I’d like to see Black try and find ANYONE capable of believing his reputation could be impugned)…

 

So what I’m saying is that there’s a ONE IN A FUCKING BILLION chance that this doesn’t in any way involve the California SPCA’s “Man of the Year”. Therefore, instead of convicting the man let’s just go over some of the details that are emerging about this (and admittedly I’m getting up to speed on a lot of it just over the course of today, so remember this is an opinion site and not a news site before sending nasty correction letters):

 

First off, we have to look at the attack itself. According to a detective on the scene “robbery does not appear to be a motive”. The two men entered the apartment specifically to assault Messiah (real name William Welsh), with the fact that they may have waited for his girlfriend to leave before entering possibly being further evidence to that fact.

 

Add to that the nature of the incident. If this was because the guy owed somebody money, the retaliation would’ve been “businesslike”, the men go in and either break the legs or shoot him in the head. Here they go inside, beat the guy down, handcuff him to a chair, cut off one thumb and try to cut off the other, and wind up stabbing him (and I haven’t even told you the heavy shit yet… saving that for impact a little bit later) before fleeing the scene. That’s not a “hit”, that’s “payback… and payback is a motherfucker”.

 

And there’s this ominous section of the article:

 

Officials said they are looking into a possible connection with the victim's line of work as a wrestler.

 

"There may be some sort of connection to the business he is in," Lewandowski said. "He is pointing us to some type of internal thing to do with his job."

 

So EVEN MESSIAH is apparently pointing fingers (of course no names are mentioned, but I doubt he means Vince did it).

 

Sure, this all is pretty good evidence that he reeeeeeally pissed off SOMEONE, but why does that make our favorite prince of porn responsible? After all, plenty of people have left the company and NOT been mutilated in their own homes. No thugs were sent after New Jack, were they (which is probably the smartest thing, really)? And if XPW really makes any money, then a good chunk of it is because of Messiah, so you’d think they’d wish each other “good day” and move on.

 

Well, then you don’t know XPW. First off, anything that’s sponsored with porn money is going to have some shadiness involved. Rob Black, in addition to being a shameless exhibitionist and self-promoter (and who am I to hate him for that?), is also most assuredly “at least familiar” with a portion of the criminal element of Los Angeles.

 

And while I’m not sure he’s ever actually carried out anything like this, there is documentation of Rob threatening violence before. The following link is to the one and only Luke Ford, and an article detailing the head of Extreme Associates threatening a writer by the name of “Kid Vegas”. It goes so far as to suggest he’ll “wind up in a bag”, and then Vegas finds a note put on his car to show Rob knew where the guy lived. If that’s not enough, our own Lethal Alum King Mob was first threatened by them, then offered a writing gig that to this day he believes was a set-up to get him out there. And he seems like such a nice guy, too…

But the clincher involves the rumors of Messiah and Lizzie Borden, otherwise known as “Mrs. Rob Black”. The story goes back a good ways, and up until recently had pretty much been nixed (at some point members of an XPW fan forum took responsibility for starting them). Well, not sure if something else happened in the interim, but what I do know is that on the day New Jack and him jumped ship to rival company EPIC, NJ cut a SAVAGE promo on Rob (like only he can) that included a repeat of the rumor, stating it as fact. Later when Messiah made his entrance the crowd chanted “You fucked Lizzie” at him, and he responded “AND SHE LOVED IT!” Now, virgins may not understand, but in most guys’ book… TELLING a guy you fucked his girlfriend is what starts the fight, regardless of how true it is.

 

And make no mistake, WHOEVER did this did it because of a woman. Why? Here’s the little detail I left out earlier (from SoCal Uncensored, an absolutely invaluable resource for this post and one of my new favorite sites):

 

While Messiah was dazed by the fishtank the assailants tried to cut off his penis, and Messiah was stabbed in the leg in the process. The assailants then fled, taking the severed thumb with them.

GOD!! THEY TRIED TO TAKE HIS DICK!! Not only that, but they also took his thumb with them, obviously to ensure it couldn’t be re-attached later. Also, as we all know lots of blood has a tendency to flow through the penis… meaning the chances of him bleeding to death had they been successful are great. WHOEVER ordered this attack had more hatred in their heart for this probable future star than most of us will ever have for anyone. I mean, DUDE!! HIS FUCKING COCK!!

I tend to feel a special appreciation for the people involved in this business, and when one of them is victim to a heinous crime like this, the feelings are similar to those felt were it to happen to a friend or a distant family member. Still, I was too caught up in the frenzy of news gatherings to really get emotional about it… until I read EPIC head Josh Lazie’s tribute on THEIR WEBSITE, and this:

 

“We came out to the biggest pop of the night and it felt awesome. The rest of the UPW experience was a fucking joke. Bassman is a douchebag.”

 

* sniff* That was beautiful, man. Hits you RIGHT HERE.

 

Again, I’m not convicting Black. Fuck, I don’t know Messiah. He may have LOTS of enemies. He may have hit on some chick at a bar last week that was “taken”, or drank New Jack’s last Pepsi or something. And to be perfectly honest I totally HOPE he has nothing to do with it. For one thing, this is the sort of tawdry tale that could finally give wrestling the black eye so many have been waiting to give for a long fucking time. If Rob is involved, this isn’t going to be a story you have to follow on websites, this is TABLOID TV HEAVEN! Wrestling has avoided the press it’s oftentimes deserved for a lot longer than anyone can believe… this could change that.

 

And beyond that, as much as I’ve tried… I just can’t bring myself to totally hate XPW. Yeah, the stupid dog gimmick is hard to recover from, but come on… it’s BLOODY WRESTLING PLUS PORNO!! Something very deep in my brain keeps telling me that I’m not allowed to show total disrespect to anything with that equation.

 

And that’s where we are now. Messiah is out of the hospital and serious harm, and the LAPD is investigating fully. To stay as current as time allows, keep checking back to FIST FARKING which is all over this one. And of course, sincerest of wishes to Mr. Welsh for a speedy recovery, and for justice.

Nevermind after August 31st...I think that when XPW shows up here at the end of the month that some of the CZW boys may head over to Viking Hall to get a "better look" at their competition. Plus, Messiah is one of CZW's own now, so if there are rumors of the attack being related to Black, I'm sure that at least one of the sick bastards (not being mean, I don't mind CZW) from CZW would stick up for Messiah.

The wrestlers themselves, probably not. Most will be in Delaware for the deathmatch tournament anyway.

 

The fans, however, I wouldn't put it past them. I would be very surprised if something didn't happen at Viking Hall that didn't involve some fans.

 

Aug. 31st is going to be very interesting. I'm going to spend it passed out in my dorm room!

 

Or, sitting alone in the corner, whichever works.
