Guest Still Fly Posted August 4, 2002 Report Posted August 4, 2002 I have DirecTV and I like it a lot.... Just making conversation...
Guest CoreyLazarus416 Posted August 4, 2002 Report Posted August 4, 2002 AT&T Broadband Digital Cable. Something odd about it: I usually don't get IFC (Independent Film Channel), but I got it for the Weekend Of The Living Dead, which was a weekend showing only zombie and vampire movies. Interesting, eh?
Guest redbaron51 Posted August 4, 2002 Report Posted August 4, 2002 i have direct tv (illegal in canada) star choice satellite, digital cable

Guest MrRant Posted August 5, 2002 Report Posted August 5, 2002 AT&T Broadband Digital Cable.... FOR FREE because I work for them... mwahahahahaha... Cable internet for only $5.. bwahahahahaha.
Guest LexLugerRules Posted August 5, 2002 Report Posted August 5, 2002 ExpressVu satellite. ExpressVu is crap! I use to have it.
Guest Grenouille Posted August 5, 2002 Report Posted August 5, 2002 Time Warner Digital Cable-an extreme amount of useless channels. Are 14 HBOs really necessary?
Guest razazteca Posted August 5, 2002 Report Posted August 5, 2002 regular Time Warner cable .................still pist that UPN is not here. San F'N Antonio is where all the networks come from but for whatever reason my local affialiate cable company does not want to carry it. But in the last 6 months the company has added useless channels aimed at fringed markets like the Golf Channel, Oxygen, WE, American Shopping Channel. I am so close to switching to Direct Tv its basically the same price.
Guest El Satanico Posted August 5, 2002 Report Posted August 5, 2002 I have directv and i like it well enough. Only thing i don't like is that they rarely pick up new channels and when they do it's usually shitty channels. There's some channel on Canada cable and satellite called Drive-In Classics which of course shows old drive-in movies. Why can't directv get that channel i'd watch it all day long. Canada also gets MuchMusic's Loud channel so why can't directv get it. Why can't Directv pick up the new secondary channels mtv has now. Damnit Directv start picking up good channels. I can't get enough useless directed towards a small market channels. I want them all, i want 400 channels or i wouldn't have directv.
Guest C.H.U.D. Posted August 5, 2002 Report Posted August 5, 2002 I have the illegal DirectTV here in Canada. Also, I hacked into the cable line behind the house, so I have free cable if the satellite goes down. I don't watch that much TV though, my TV is used more for DVD's.

DirecTV can't pick up all those Canadian channels cause it's an american dish.
Guest MarvinisaLunatic Posted August 5, 2002 Report Posted August 5, 2002 I have a Big Ugly Dish, which is of course why I can get Smackdown a day earlier than everyone else (and lucky too, cause I can't get UPN)
Guest papacita Posted August 5, 2002 Report Posted August 5, 2002 I had (Wade) Time-Warner Cable up until 2000 when I switched to DriecTV. Wade is THE WORST cable company I've ever seen. They'd randomly cut the cable off from time to time weeks AFTER we'd made a payment, I'd order PPV's, they'd never put them on and STILL try to charge us on the monthly bill, then when we'd ask to speak to Supervisors, they'd grab some guy with a fake name and put him on the phone to lie to us (no lie). I finally gave up on them in 2000 when I tried to order Judgment Day and they didn't put it on when it started. I called and spoke to the same lady just a day earlier and she lied and said she never said we could order it. They eventually put it on, but we got rid of them a week or 2 later for DirecTV... And to top it off, they kept sending bills to the house months after we had already sent in the boxes!
Guest starvenger Posted August 5, 2002 Report Posted August 5, 2002 I have the full analog Time-Warner cable here in Houston. My apartment doesn't have a balcony, so sattelite wasn't an option. I really wasn't impressed with the TW digital package here, since you still have to pay extra to get HBO, Showtime, etc. However I may bite the bullet so that I can get NHL Centre Ice and/or the NBA package...
Guest evenflowDDT Posted August 6, 2002 Report Posted August 6, 2002 Why is DirectTV illegal in Canada? I have AT&T analog cable... those punks cut out a bunch of our channels, like Showtime and Cinemax, in an effort to get us to switch over to Digital Cable, but it's just too expensive to be worth it. We tried getting a dish, but sure enough, we're the only house on the block that has our Northwestern sky blocked by a PG&E power line. Some luck, eh?
Guest Karnage Posted August 6, 2002 Report Posted August 6, 2002 Why is DirectTV illegal in Canada? Only bars can get them legally I think. I don't know why it's illegal for personal use, maybe it's because of CRTC regulations.
Guest undisputedjericho Posted August 6, 2002 Report Posted August 6, 2002 I used to have Cablevision, but those bastards wouldn't carry my Yankees, so... I got DirecTV and so now I have the YES network.
Guest converge241 Posted August 6, 2002 Report Posted August 6, 2002 AT&T Broadband Digital Cable Platinum I have way too many channels
Guest starvenger Posted August 6, 2002 Report Posted August 6, 2002 Why is DirectTV illegal in Canada? Only bars can get them legally I think. I don't know why it's illegal for personal use, maybe it's because of CRTC regulations. Karnage's right. Since Direct TV is aimed for the US market, there aren't any Canadian stations, and the CRTC doesn't like the lack of Can-Con. So unless Direct TV is willing to create Direct TV Canada for a small percentage of 30 million people, drop stations like HBO, Skinemax and Showtime, and add stuff like TMN, CBC and TSN (thus making it EXACTLY THE SAME as the other dish networks), you're stuck with ExpressVu and StarChoice.
Guest Karnage Posted August 6, 2002 Report Posted August 6, 2002 DirecTV is designed for americans so it should stay like that. Like starvenger said, it would be the same as the other dishes in Canada. They should make a Canadian version of HBO Canada (fill it with Norm Macdonald stand-up, and a bunch of Canadian movies to fulfill the Canadian content laws) for the Starchoices and ExpressVus, it would rock. What really sucks about Canadian television right now is the damn simulcasting! I remember seeing the Toronto Indy a while ago on Global and it was CBS coverage! We couldn't get coverage of our own race!!
Guest Choken One Posted August 6, 2002 Report Posted August 6, 2002 Time Warner Digital Cable. Home of 14 HBO's...12 Starz, 15-20 Showtimes. 50 worthless channels like Do It Yourself Christian Broadcast Network Trinity Broadcast Network Discovery KIDS Health Network WAM! TechTv Noggin Outdoor Life Network BETJazz Trio 4 Lifetimes and more... Is DirectTV worth it?
Guest swan Posted August 6, 2002 Report Posted August 6, 2002 I have Insight cable. These guys not only set up an appoinment to run a line to my new house, they also called me at work and asked if they could do it earlier since they were running ahead. They ended up doing it on my lunch break. Couldn't belive this from a cable company, service.
Guest cartman Posted August 6, 2002 Report Posted August 6, 2002 Cox Digital Cable....and I see i'm getting screwed with ONLY 8 HBO's!!!!!
Guest starvenger Posted August 6, 2002 Report Posted August 6, 2002 What really sucks about Canadian television right now is the damn simulcasting! I remember seeing the Toronto Indy a while ago on Global and it was CBS coverage! We couldn't get coverage of our own race!! Actually that was because Global (read: the Aspers) was cheap and didn't want to spend money to do their own production, whereas CBC didn't mind spending their (read: the taxpayers) money to create their own quality production. The end result is that we got good coverage from the CBS feed, but it just wasn't the same. It's like watching ABC's NHL coverage as opposed to HNiC. Time Warner Digital Cable. Home of 14 HBO's...12 Starz, 15-20 Showtimes. 50 worthless channels like Do It Yourself Christian Broadcast Network Trinity Broadcast Network Discovery KIDS Health Network WAM! TechTv Noggin Outdoor Life Network BETJazz Trio 4 Lifetimes and more... Too bad you can't trade those 50 channels for, say, Playboy TV...
