From Calgary Sun-

He is the best there was, the best there is and the best there ever will be -- as a massive celebration and show of support for the Hitman's recovery will surely attest, its organizers say.

With Bret (Hitman) Hart poised on the brink of recovery, hordes of his most loyal fans, friends and supporters are gathering for a morning of broadcast well-wishing and story-swapping honouring Calgary's heavyweight star.

The 45-year-old grappler has been in hospital for five weeks, fighting to regain his strength and movement since suffering a stroke June 24.

The Hitman immediately lost feeling throughout the left side of his body, but made slow progress while staying under an assumed name in Foothills Hospital.

Family members said he has since been released from hospital, having regained some movement through his left side, and is expected to make a full recovery within a year.

As a show of support for the wrestling superstar, the Sun has teamed up with CJAY 92 for a celebration and fundraiser in honour of the wrestler.

"Bret is such a super guy, he's done so much for charity, the whole family has," CJAY 92's Gerry Forbes said.

"Every time I've thrown something, the Hart family has shown up to help out."

Forbes and the Sun's Page 6 columnist, Chris Gerritsen, dreamed up the idea of a massive well-wishing morning show after receiving a flurry of calls from concerned listeners and readers.

"Everybody was wondering how Bret was doing; it was an ongoing thing," Gerritsen said.

"Finally we said, 'We should do something for him.' "

The Sun/CJAY 92 Get Well Soon Bret Hart will broadcast live between 6 a.m. and 10 a.m. Wednesday from the parking lot of Chinook Centre facing Macleod Tr.

And A-Channel's Jebb Fink will broadcast his segments of the Big Breakfast live from the event site.

An enormous "get well soon" card will be available for Calgarians to sign for hand-delivery to Hart.

As well, prize packages including an "extra-for-a-day" spot in an upcoming feature film scheduled to shoot in Calgary this fall, and Flames and Stamps merchandise will be raffled off with all proceeds going to the Alberta Heart and Stroke Foundation.

"It now looks that he's starting on the road to recovery, and if this can help push him over the top and raise some money for the foundation, I would just be thrilled," Forbes said.

"Any wrestling fans, or fans of the Hart family -- who are pretty much Calgary royalty -- need to come out Wednesday and toss a few bucks in the kitty, and let's get this thing over the top."

They're raising money for the Alberta Heart and Stroke Foundation, not for Bret himself. Also, although I'm pretty sure he's living very comfortably financially, he did go through a divorce.
