Hogan & Flair in WCW: Comparing then and now

Recommended Posts

Guest mister foozel

Now I've been wondering this a little while, and I've heard guys in the WWE say that Flair and Hogan are in better shape than they have ever been RIGHT NOW.

I was just wondering how much truth there was to this, because I thought that 5 or 6 years ago in WCW Hogan and Flair seemed to move around a heck of a lot better in the ring, and even did 'til their last days in WCW.

For the people who saw and remeber Hogan and Flair's in-ring mobility back then, what was it like? I for one can't even remember how much better/worse Hogan and Flair were.

All I think I know is that Flair hasn't lost nearly the step Hogan has? Hogan had knee surgery or something didn't he?

Both Flair and Hogan were well past their prime when they were in WCW together.

As far as how they were better, Flair bumped better and Hogan didn't hobble when he walked. I still wouldn't go out of my way to see any of their matches from that time period. I think they both should hang it up. Flair can't even take an armdrag right any more and Hogan can't walk without a limp. Their bodies told them no 5 years ago, but their egos keep telling them yes, so what are you going to do.

So do you know if he had the knee surgery?

Hogan got knee surgery during the middle of 1999, he hasn't really been the same since, but he wasn't very good at that time period to begin with. Lots of backrakes and shitty looking punches.

What?!?!? You dont think the backrake is credible!!!

The back rake is truly a grueling move that has an effect on both the inflictor and inflictee.

Pure unadulterated punishment.

How I just tped that with a straight face: Unknown.

He also had knee surgary last year. He was meant to make a special appearance at Wrestlemania and it was supposed to have something to do with WCW. But he blew out his knee when he was training and had to have surgary.

I remember him talking about that in an interview before his WWE return.

Hogan's had several knee surgeries over the years. The first one was in the late 1980s.

Flair is in the best shape he's been in for some time. Since late 1995, he's been injured off and on. Rotator cuff injuries significantly limited the work he could do - inside the ring and out.

As for his bumping, he's always bumped that way. Never lands flat on his back and he's trying to protect his shoulders. It was a standing arm drag in a match with Kensuke Sasaki that tore his left rotator cuff in 1996 (not to mention he tore the other one in 1999). Plus, you know, he kinda' tore up his back in that plane crash.

Flair seems a lot more fluid in the ring, with the exception of the corner flip. And shockingly, his moveset is more varied that it was two years ago.
